We stayed at this hotel for 1 week. We used the transfer option that was provided by the hotel (36 euro return) and even though are flight was delayed (for some hours), there was still someone to pick us up late at night to bring us to the hotel. The staff was very fluent in multiple languages, it's kind of annoying to be adressed in German all the time, instead of English or Portugese. They were very friendly and helpful. Our room had a garden view, we weren't really focused on sea view, but it's optional if you really prefer this. The room itself was clean, oke size (small opening between the bed and the desk), but enough space for clothing and suitcases. There is a refrigerator (with some snacks and drinks if you like), some coffee/thee for free and the bathroom is spacious, with a big shower, toilet and sink. There is a small balcony for some clothes to dry or to sit in the sun. There is a tv on the wall with an interactive program for you to see any activities organised by the hotel and to check the status of your hotel bill, which is very convenient. Breakfast was very good. There were loads of options for you to choose from, including a lot of healthy stuff (healthy snack corner with line seeds, biological porridge, muesli, vegetables, fresh fruits, yoghurt, soja milk, gluten and lactose free options etc.). Egg or omelet was fried on the spot. Bread was fresh and with a lot of different options, also some sweets. Sweet options were Nutella and so many different jams / marmelades (also for the diabetic), Besides that you could either choose from some different versions of cheese (goatcheese as well) or some ham, unfortunately there was no chicken filet. Also there were different yoghurts for you to choose from. There are even tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots etc. And if you really fancy a full english breakfast, that's possible as well, beans, pancakes. The porridge however was a bit different everyday, very runny or way too thick. There is a tea / coffee machine and a machine for hot milk, which was very nice. In the back of the breakfast area there were some juices and (crystalised) water, unfortunately there was no fresh orange juice. So you could say breakfast has a lot of options for everyone and was of good quality, the things that were missing were fresh juice and chicken filet. The gym area is seperate from the hotel (it is a gym in its own right), but the guests from the Hotel can use it for free. They have many classes for you (good level!, no animation / entertainment level) and a gym with weights and machines. In the gym you have also access to the sauna and pool which were ok. You could use a towel from the gym, everything was very clean. Furthermore we used some of the Spa options at the hotel. This was our first experience and everything was professional and of good quality. There is a large range of massage options or treatments, the staff were friendly and competent. The restaurant is a buffet style dinner. There was a large range of foods of reasonable quality. The meat was a bit dry and the fish was heated for too long to enjoy. However the salads and side dishes were of much better quality to still enjoy this dinner. (for a reasonable price as well, the more you book this buffet style dinner at the hotel, the more discount you will receive) The Pool Bar at the hotel was a bit disappointing, the opening hours were very limited and there are not many food options. After 20:00 it's not possible to drink anything anymore at the hotel, so you are forced to walk a minute or 3 to the nearest Bar, which was the Capoeira Bar. Here we enjoyed our daily lunch, which was of good quality and the cocktails were perfect. Most of the time there was live music (some of it was quite good). Especially the chicken wrap was very enjoyable, you can ask if you can swap the chips for some salad or vegetables. You can sit outside (covered or uncovered) and inside. There are many restaurants in the neighbourhood (5 min walk) and there is a small SPAR supermarket nearby. The bus stop for the bus to Funchal across the street and fares are very low, very doable and runs a good service. For restaurants further away the hotel or restaurant can arrange a free transfer. Also if you would like to book some tours/walks just ask the staff for options, they are happy to help you. The outside pool has a big sitting area with very comfortable benches/couches/seats. The website of this hotel is very confusing and not complete at all, doesn't represent this hotel very well. This could be updated and improved significantly. Would definitely stay here again!
Gym very well kitted out with excellent classes. Everyone incredibly friendly and welcoming, and a brilliant sunbathing area down by the sea. Good choice of restaurants (seafood, pizzaria, bar and great breakfast buffet). We will definitely be back - thank you!
Good arrival in the hotel with friendly people at the reception desk. The room is clean without any comments. We had a room with balcony and pool/sea view. Room was large enough with a nice bathroom. Beds had good matrasses. Positive is that the elavator is surrounded by a glass wall, so no noice from the elevator. The pool was clean and nice. You could find at the breakfast buffet all you needed. One day we stayed also a while at the pool and the service at the pool/poolbar was certainly good. The only minor we found was the parking. Not so much parking available close to the hotel. Otherwise a good hotel to stay for your holiday in Madeira.
Always a nice vacation at Galosol, friendly staff, beautiful and clean surroundings and I already look forward to my next stay! Exceptionally beautiful breakfast area, where you can sit outside enjoying your breakfast in the sun enjoying the sea view.
Room and en suite was spacious and modern with 32in smart tv air con and balcony, a well equipped and maintained gym. was also available Hotel is located 20 mins from Funchal by bus in an area served by a few restaurants and bars and a tiny shop. Buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of options. I cannot find fault this hotel with the exception of the pizzeria on the complex which served the worst pizza i have ever eaten, a better map of the area would also help.
This is a comfortable resort hotel in a good location near the waterfront about half way between the airport and Funchal. On arrival the reception staff were welcoming and when checking in (and whenever passing reception) you can help yourself to a small glass of a refreshing flavoured fruit or herb drink from a dispenser on the counter (they change the flavour every day). My room was of a good size with a view over the outdoor swimming pool towards the ocean. The beds were comfortable and there was a large TV and free internet access. The bathroom (with bath and shower) was a comfortable size and clean, the fittings all worked properly and the towels were regularly changed. bath Just two minor negatives. The bedroom walls are thin so you can easily hear the occupants in adjacent rooms. Also, in the evening the bath/shower water was warm not hot. A very good choice of food and drink at breakfast, including a chef on hand to cook omelettes, or anything else you want; you just provide the ingredients in a bowl. There is also a large range of good quality food every evening for dinner. It is served buffet style so you can chose whatever you want and in in the quantities you want. The hotel has a gym and a reasonable sized indoor swimming pool which I used every day. As previously mentioned the hotel is in a good location by the coast so you can enjoy walks of varying lengths from the hotel, although these will normally involve going up or down hill (Madeira is a very hilly place). There is also a bus stop close to the hotel with a regular bus service into Funchal (it takes about 25 minutes). Overall this was a very comfortable hotel and I should be pleased to stay there again on any future visits to Madeira.
Good facilities with lovely indoor and outdoor pools. Choice of restaurants with excellent varied food for all tastes. Staff very helpful. Only down side was that the beds were hard. Conveniently close to bus-stop for travel to Funchal.
Hotel Galosol is part of a group of hotels forming a resort on the south coast of Madeira. It is a short distance by bus from Funchal and the airport. There are 3 hotels, plus some restaurants and bars and a gym. There is not a strong local flavour, in fact it is more geared to British and German tourists than offering a local flavour (except for the token themed periods in one of the bars). The main buffet restaurant closes before most locals are even considering going out for dinner. The rooms are generous, clean and well looked after. However, the air conditioning does not work (in the winter?) with temperatures centrally controlled - we had to open the balcony doors to cool the room. The gym is well equipped, plus indoor swimming pool, saunas and squash courts.
A great place to relax, great rooms, always fresh, lovely staff who make you welcome and delicious food. We have stayed at this hotel for over 20 years - the management are innovative and keep the hotel to a very high standard.
Very nice hotel. Large yet quiet / was maybe out of season friendly staff. Roof repairs going on but didn't bother us. Nice rooms free wi fi. Nice indoor pool jacuzzi and sauna We had buffet each evening - rather too much dried out cold food - too much /wasteful overcooked Seemed to be too few people for vast volumes of rather dried out food. Breakfast lovely but hot dishes again a big fried out Better to see the omelette chef Choose own ingredients in little dish. Hand over ... return 5 minutes. Great idea. No Q. lovely coffee in practical mugs - nice ! Quiet area good for peaceful sleep but not much to do after dinner Hotel bar is down the road near lift down to lido Nice lido area with steps into sea. Too cold in January though be lovely in warmer months - swam once in sea an open bar after dinner in main hotel would have been nice and allowed our group to socialise after dinner
