This hotel was such pleasure to stay at! We were welcomed very professionally and friendly as soon as we arrived at reception. Breakfast buffet had a great selection of healthy foods that we absolutely loved, my partner really enjoyed the omelette station with friendly omelette lady each morning who was always smiling and happy to make your omelette dream come true. The gym was also of a high standard - as a regular gym user I personally thought that the Galo gym was very well equipped and also had classes you could join! The bedroom was huge and very clean with always polite and smart looking housekeeper.
Arriving on the Friday evening we took a taxi from the airport to the hotel, approx 20 Euros , on arrival we were asked to pay upfront and leave our passports, a little odd but just the way they seem to do things. Given our pass card and sent on our way we arrived at our room, lovely big room with a large bathroom, clean and comfortable with a seating area, veranda and view over the garden towards the sea. Tea and coffee, some English speaking TV and plenty of cupboard space etc. After a comfortable nights sleep we headed to breakfast to find a clean, well stocked buffet with all sorts from bacon (of a sort) and eggs to porridge (of a sorts) and European style. Sit inside or outside in comfortable clean surroundings. Staff attentive and helpful, my partner particularly enjoyed the freshly made omelettes. Off out for the day we headed to the bus stop which was a very short walk from the hotel and of in to Funchal for 4 euro. Facilities in the Hotel are very good, big gym if that is your thing, swimming pool indoor and outdoor, Jacuzzi, steam room, Finnish sauna, bio sauna, plunge pools etc. Bit odd seeing naked fellows in the Sauna but that's how they roll in Europe Of the three onsite restaurants we found the pool bar the best value and taste, the Pizzeria being only Italian really in name and the food ok. the gastro pub wasn't very gastro and felt utilitarian and lacking in atmosphere. Plenty of reasonable decent restaurants near and about, walks down the coast etc, overall a quite comfortable neighborhood. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Madiera and hotel was very good in all aspects, very clean, comfortable and relaxed, excellent facilities and staff and we would be more than happy to stay again
Stayed for a week and wished it could be longer, we had a suite which was absolutely huge, and spotlessly clean, as was all the hotel, facilities were 5*, we only had breakfast included but ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and outside in there own pizzeria and all food was excellent and reasonably priced, but what really helped to make this such a good holiday were the staff, I cannot single out one individual for praise as all the staff were very friendly, always had a smile and time to talk, I would highly recommend it,
Its a great choice for an escape. Love this hotel. Room was clean and good. Staff was always helpfull and friendly! It has all information we need easy access. Great pools. Great ambient. It was the second time Ive been in galosol and for sure it wont be the last, I will be back again with our babys for a family stay. I will recomend this hotel to my friends.
Due to strong winds at Funchal airport we had to stay on the island for an extra 3 days waiting for a flight. The hotel and staff could not have been more helpful. Would definitely recommend. Food at the Atlantis Restaurant was excellent, the high light of the week. Buffet was good for most guests, but not so for vegetarians. Many of the bean or pulse dishes contained meat or fish. Need to address the protein requirements for any vegetarians, so reason for not giving 5 stars. Breakfast excellent.
The Galosol hotel is a very nice accommodation in the south-east of Madeira Island. The staff is very friendly and supportive and speak a lot of languages. Highlights are the gym (very big one), the comfortably and clean rooms and the breakfast buffet. You should rent a car when staying there at it makes it much easier to visit different places on the island. We had no problems to park at the hotel facilities or really close by. The pool area is also quiet nice but you need to walk some minutes to get into the sea. To use the safe you need to pay an additional amount which I think should be included in a 4 star hotel. You are also charged when changing the beach towels but this seems ok to me as it should help to use them some more days and do something good for the environment. All in all we had a very pleasant stay and can really recommend this hotel.
For us this was a perfect location: Great surroundings by the shore. The location is quiet, and perfect if you don't need to be in a city. The hotel had all the facilities we needed and we had a rental car which gave us the possibillity to get around. The hotel itself is nice with good and healthy breakfast. There are a number of restaurants nearby the hotel, so dining was no problem.
During our holiday in Madeira my husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Eco Beach Hut at the Galosol Resort. Having booked through a third party website, we were unaware that the beach hut was part of the resort until we received a message from the hotel regarding check in. This booking was actually a bit of a wild card in our minds-we pretty much had no idea what to expect. The only thing we knew was that we were going to stay in a cabin built into the cliff right on the sea. Imagine our surprise when we arrived and discovered that this was a 5 star glamping experience with a chilled bottle of bubbly waiting for us in the hut! We had such a great time, I don't know where to start. The Eco Hut itself is fantastic. Very tasteful decorations - every little detail has been thought about. Fantastic bed. The hut is open towards the sea, and hence there is a constant pleasant breeze in the room. It was warm though and the duvet is great. We noticed that there were extra blankets in a basket next to the bed, should you need it. It is built into the cliff and is based at its own little beach (which in Madeira means concrete terrace) at the very end of the resort with direct access to the sea. During the daytime between 9am and 7pm, the beach is open to the other guests, although only a few people made use of it for sunbathing while we were there. It is mostly used as access for the diving school. There is a separate 'shed' next to the hut where luggage etc can be stored and you are given the sole key to the padlock so we felt very safe and secure there. There is a 'bathroom' with a water basin and camping toilet (after all - it IS glamping). We used the toilet for emergency use during the night. During the daytime we used the hotels shower/toilet facilities by the 'beach and pool' area. Again, this is camping, so expect cold water in the shower ;-) As the gates to the beach are locked in the evening/night time, you get your own set of keys, and if you do prefer the normal toilet to the camping one, this is also an option... The reception make sure you get torches on arrival should you wish to venture to the toilet after hours. You also get a mobile phone in case you need to reach reception. Back to the hut; we really enjoyed the snorkeling just outside and spent hours in the water. Very clear and lots of interesting fish. Definitely bring your snorkeling mask if you are into this kind of thing. On our first day David, the Operations Manager, paid us a visit by the hut. An extremely nice guy who immediately made us feel welcome and 'special'. We accepted his offer of having a 3 course dinner served by the hut the same evening, and we cannot recommend this enough. It was such a wonderful experience. The food is FANTASTIC. It was a 5 star dining experience right on the sea. Lovely waiting staff and plenty of wine (prosecco, white, red). SO romantic! We also had breakfast by the hut on our last day, and again it was such a nice experience. White table cloth and everything you could possibly want from the breakfast buffet. On the second morning we walked to the main restaurant (5mins away) and tried the buffet. Excellent!! While at the breakfast, we were greeted by Nicole, the customer experience manager. A really nice lady with a great sense of humour, who made sure everything was ok. There are several lunch and dinner options within the resort. As we were only there for a couple of days, we only tried the pizzeria and the cliff-top bar/cafe near the hut. The pizzeria was good, albeit not as great as everything else. The clifftop bar on the other hand is amazing. A great selection of light lunches and dinners, excellent cocktails, good coffee and the biggest icecreams ever! All very reasonably priced. Parking is free and easy to find. And there is also an amazing big pool. We went to explore the area a bit more, but had such a great time that we ended up not leaving the hut/resort while there. Only a few very minor things to put our finger on, which we fed back to the hotel. Overall it was such a great experience and we actually tried to extend our stay while there. Unfortunately they were fully booked that weekend, so instead we will have to come back. The thing that matters most to us when staying in hotels is customer service, and this place has completely nailed it!
Galo Resort continues to provide excellent value. The food is delicious. We had a great party for my wife's birthday and wedding anniversary at the Atlantico restaurant. It was a very enjoy enjoyable evening. A Great team of people work at the hotel - always helpful and polite.
Positive: Reception staff, breakfast staff, room cleaners, lifeguards Weather Cleanliness Breakfast buffet very good & with many good choices Extra Plus for efficient & very friendly omelette/egg cooks:-) Negative: Room size ~ full paid for 3 adults, got a chair/bed as third bed ! Matress very hard Air Condition malfunctioned several times/was centrally switched off at night!(?) Fridge should be empty so guests can fill in themselves not minibar filled by hotel Water should be available free of charge during dinner and pool area ( environmental to serve tap water) Very Negative: Barbeque buffet was terrible ~ long lines of waiting hungry guests, the food offer was of poor quality and presented in an undelicate manner. No proper steak nor chicken filets In general the dinner buffet at the hotel was rather tasteless and too slow service for drinks The fitness room was old fashioned and had outdated machines and didnt offer water dispenser opportunity. In the leaflet promoting the hotel it didnt state that the gym was PUBLIC but private and therefore crowded. The sea facilities was also PUBLIC as well as private meaning very crowded too. The German guide situated at the hotel was much too detailed during the hotel tour. She spoke as we never had travelled before , joked silly and treated us as if we never had stayed at a hotel. This tour could have been done in 20 min instead of 1hr + with a more focused approach. In general the negatives outweighed the positives. We will not choose this hotel again.
