This beautiful hotel is within several minutes walking of the active center of Funchal. The staff is very helpful. The rooftop pool and sun deck area is very nice and worth a visit in the early morning to view the sunrise over the city. Breakfast was great. The room was spacious. The entrance to the hotel is on a quiet one way street, but as is usual in Madeira, there is no where to park other than on the sidewalk. We found out that to check in you are meant to drive the car across the sidewalk, through an opening that looks like it is for pedestrians only, and park temporarily in a very small courtyard in front of the main entrance. At the reception desk, we were each provided a glass of nice Madeira wine. After that, our car was parked for us in their underground parking garage (12 Euros per night). When we exited the parking garage at the end of our stay, we discovered the switchback ramps in the parking garage required 3 point turns even in a small car. All in all, we can recommend this hotel.
The hotel location is perfect—close to all the downtown action. Our suite was very large and well appointed, as was the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was very good with many choices. The fruit was particularly delicious.
