We stayed in the main hotel, in a regular double room. These rooms are a bit dim, with lots of dark wood, but the window lets in plenty of light. The decor could use an update but for the very reasonable price and great location Hotel Ilaria is a good option. There is so much to see and do in Lucca that you will not spend much time in your room. The breakfast terrace is lovely, with Illy espresso and a good range of hot and cold food. You can walk here from both the bus and train, but it's cobbled (of course). Easy to find and Lucca is small enough that anyone would help with directions. Make sure you go out walking and let yourself get lost in Lucca's charming streets. There is a great wine shop just past the arch and several very good restaurants nearby. The front desk girls will also give you tips - thanks Federica and Ilaria!
Excellent and luxury hotel. Large rooms provided with everything. Cleaness. Kind staff, delicious breakfast with any type of food. Excellent positition. Uncomparable processore for the quality of the service
Pros : 1) Location : The hotel is located just within the city walls but just outside the restricted zone for cars 2) Breakfast has a good selection of hot (sausage, scrambled eggs and bacon) and cold items. Coffee which is by Illy is excellent. 3) Free use of bicycles. There are only about 10 of them so I can imagine getting one would be difficult during peak season. But we got ours without any issues and cycled around the perimeter wall. 4) Free aperitivo hour with snacks and drinks around 5pm. This includes beer and sparkling wine. Cons : 1) Bed is on the small side if there are 2 people on the bed. The size of the mattress is between a super single and queen. 2) Room is on the small side. If you put 2 luggages out, you would not have able to walk around. 3) Shower cubicle is too small (about 1m by 1.5m) and with no shower curtain, you end up wetting the bathroom floor. I hate that and pity the cleaners who had to wipe the floor down everyday. 4) No toilet roll holder which I really don't get it. 5) No tower hanging rack, so you would use the heating rack for your towels. Parking is EUR15 per day. If you're driving, you MUST come in from Porta Elisa gate. Go straight after the main gate a the wall. You would go though another gate. Turn right once you pass that. The restricted zone starts after. If you go in from the other entrances, you would inevitably go through a restricted zone (only for residents' vehicle) and would be fined about EUR50.
Amazing location. Took bikes out. Stayed in the annex across from the reception and our room was huge. Best hotel of our trip by far. Luxurious. Free prosecco nibbles etc every day. Fabulous breakfast. Friendly happy staff on reception and a truly all over wonderful experience
We stayed in the second building of the Ilaria which is a very quick 2 minute walk from the main building. Our hotel room was located in the older section of Lucca just inside the medieval gate. It was spacious, clean, and quiet. We were thrilled with the location, as well as the bicycles they have available for guests to borrow. We took the bikes for a ride on the wall around the city and it was so much fun! The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our time in Lucca - it has so much character! We rode the hotel bikes to the main sites in the city - I highly recommend staying at the Ilaria and seeing Lucca by bicycle!
We combined a trip to Pisa then Lucca & checked into the Hotel Ilaria in Lucca while in Tuscany. What a lovely hotel - the staff was fabulous. We had a canal view that was great! They arrange parking which is worth letting them do! Follow their directions to get to the hotel. They are very close to the entrance they will direct you to - a GPS will take you to an entrance on the other side of the city & navigating is a “bit” challenging! 😳😳😳 It was our 25th wedding anniversary & we were surprised with a bottle of Spumante & fresh fruit sent from the staff. We highly recommend this hotel!
Small but fine rooms, window that you can open, hot tub on patio on 2nd floor, very nice breakfast, helpful staff, great location. the free buffet includes Prosecco in the afternoon - take a glass up to the hot tub!
This hotel is fantastic. There is onsite parking and the wifi is excellence. The service is superior and everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel with a great location located close to the centre of town. They have bicycles that you can use for free and a concierge will make reservations for you in town. The breakfast is exquisite and abundant. You do feel at home here in this tastefully decorated hotel inside the walls of Lucca.
We stayed for two nights at the Hotel Ilaria. The hotel is 10-15 minutes walk from the station and is close to central Lucca. There is a main hotel building where breakfast is served, and a second building (an old medieval gate house). Staff were very welcoming and we were really impressed with the hotel. There is no bar area, but the hotel offers free refreshments in the reception area. Recommended for a stay in Lucca.
Nice hotel close to the city center. Rooms were very clean, staff were attentive. A very enjoyable stay. My only complaint was it was a bit warm in the room and the AC did not help. However, the windows open and on a cool night it was comfortable.
