I'm this year 64 years old and traveled a lot in my live in Americas, Europe and Asia. Grand Hotel Royal Hotel in Viareggio is one of the best Hotels where I stayd in my live. From welcome on the reception on arrival, during breakfast or the extraordinary dinner the service quality of food and the charme of the hotel where attracting us very much. Many thanks to Staff and the management for the great days in your Hotel.
Whilst a pleasant classic hotel, with many advantages including large, airy rooms, an excellent pool area and good indoor and outdoor bar facilities, there were several aspects of this hotel that could have been much better. Most importantly, were dinner arrangements, whereby you had to choose from the dinner menu at breakfast! To compound this, you had to attend dinner by 9pm, which is most unusual in Italy. In addition, by 8.40pm, there was limited selection from the buffet and on most nights this was cleared away before 9pm. Dinner was not a good experience. Still on the theme of catering, breakfast was disappointing with limited choice and we cannot understand why in this day and age a hotel such as this cannot offer fresh fruit juice and acceptable coffee. Just get the basics right!
we just stayed for 1 night and the better rooms with balcony and sea view are wonderful. Professional staff in Hotel uniforms. Very friendly and helpul. The Hotel has just 5 floors but in a new Hotel it would be 10 floors because the room walls are very high. We would give an excellent if the breakfast buffet was not average although it was not bad.
We spent our two week holiday here at the Grand Royal and were made to feel very welcome at this quaint and historic old hotel. If you're planning a long visit to Viareggio then I can recommend this hotel. The rooms are spacious and well maintained, the bathrooms clean and tidy, the staff are courteous and polite, and the hotel in general kept and maintained to a high standard. The restaurant if fantastic for evening meals and breakfasts, so give them a try, This is a big hotel set in its own small grounds with eating available outside. The pool and gardens are lovely if you want a break from the wonderful sunshine or the beach which is directly opposite the front of the hotel. The views from the rear which overlook the gardens also overlook the mountains in the distance. The bar in the evening was buzzing and well stocked with a variety of drinks and plates of cicchetti served with drinks. The cocktails are wonderful and certainly worth a go. All in all a wonderful stay and thoroughly recommended.
We stayed here at the beginning of May, which is a lovely time to travel. It is still cool in the evenings, not a mosquito in site, and lovely sunny days for sight seeing- but not too hot. We were given a room on the 5th floor which we were very pleased with. It was very comfortable and had everything you could possibly want. It had lovely views over the bay, but I think the room to the rear could have had equally good views over the mountains. The hotel had a lot of 'olde' world charm. I chose it because it was easy to travel by bus and train to Pisa, Lucca and Florence. The buses and trains were very easy to use. The staff on Reception were very charming and couldn't have been more helpful. We enjoyed the food on offer in the restaurant. There was a good choice and the waiter service was professional and efficient. On our last day, we were able to obtain =a late check out as our flight was not until the Sunday evening. We really appreciated this, but realise that it would not have been available if the hotel was busy or we were part of a large tour. All in all - a big thank you to all the excellent staff at the Grand Hotel Royal, who looked after us so well.
Stayed here for a week great Hotel, very clean and spacious room. The Hotel staff were very helpful from the receptionists, waiters in the restaurant, bar manager and cleaners. The food in the restaurant was fantastic can't fault it at all. Also our room was upgraded to a side view.
This wonderful building was built in 1925 and retains much of its charm with large entrance hall, high ceilings, grand dining room and wide sweeping staircase. Beautiful bedroom (we had sea view with balcony on forth floor) have high ceilings, large windows and original tiled floors. The room was simply furnished and old and needed to be upgraded, but very clean. Very large variety of TV channels. The view amazing ! Breakfast is in the beautiful dining room was good. Service is efficient and staff friendly, everybody were nice and helpful. Gardens at the back of the hotel are lovely and peaceful and the pool is a perfect place to relax. Inside you can also relax in the traditional lounge, cards room and bar as well as the airy and beautiful lobby. Location very good in a nice charming town, convenient to visit Pisa, Luca, Tuscany coast and even Florence. Unfortunately we stayed only for two nights, but we already dreaming to come back for a longer stay.
An absolutely fabulous hotel. Its lives up to its Grand Royal name. A palatial looking hotel with an imposing facade just opposite the promenade that runs along the shore-front of Viareggio. The reception staff were professional, friendly, efficient and informative. They upgraded us to a sea front room which was very spacious. The room is equipped with all that you might need and some. You get slippers, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as all the assortment of toiletries in the bathroom. The only slight disappointment was the shower. It was quite small and the door didn't close too well so it left a damp patch on the floor. But not a major upset to complain about. The room was very clean and tidy. The interior decor of the hotel is to a very high standard with extensive use of flowers throughout. Its a particularly pleasing feature especially in the breakfast room where the food tables were adorned with flowers. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection to suit any taste or appetite. It even had a pancake making machine which would make you a fresh pancake at the press of a button. The hotel is conveniently located across the road from the main promenade so very close to the beach and all the restaurants, bars and shops that adorn the promenade. There is parking on the premises but there is an additional charge of 15Euro/Day. They also rent bicycles so you can stroll around. Parking is at a premium so its a good form of transport to get around. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.
Stayed here for 5 nights. A lovely hotel. The room are spacious, clean and traditionally furnished. The pool was not in use, but the grounds were well kept and in use. The best part of this hotel is the friendly staff, both reception & restaurant staff were cheerful, efficient and helpful. Thank you.
This is an old building so lacks some modern features but what it lacks in modernity it more than compensates with character - beautiful tiled floors for example Bathroom was clean an modern , room was large with very high ceilings. Breakfast was substantial with great local cheeses and hams as well as the usual suspects. Pool was nice and never particularly busy when we stayed in August. Location is right on the sea front. I'm sure some would be picky about some of the details not being 100% but overall for me the character and staff outweigh to odd pool tile being missing
