I come to the Riverhill with my sister and grandma. The afternoon tea was outstanding! Lovely cakes, sandwiches and the scones were to die for! Service was lovely and staff where very helpful. Would recommend this place!
Stayed on a wet night in January. The room was very clean and comfortable. Only gripe was the noise in the corridor at 1am as a couple of long staying guests were having a loud chat down the corridor. Food was very good and service superb but the ambience in the restaurant is spoilt by them playing the radio
This is a very clean hotel and restaurant with friendly staff, great food and a guaranteed great nights sleep. Nice and close to the tunnels or trains to Liverpool or motorways to head further north or south.
The RiverHill used to be our 'go to' restaurant for a nice meal out and we loved the sweet trolley which always followed the fab meals. Sadly we wont be returning! We visited last year for Sunday lunch. Firstly, we waited in the bar area for over an hour - about 75 mins. This is really not acceptable. When we first ordered there was no lamb left, however when we showed our disappointment, more lamb miraculously became available (although we later wished it hadn't!). We also had to order our sweet at the same time as our starter and main course (i prefer to wait to see how hungry i am after eating my meal). We were placed in an area of the dining room with two big parties - one of about 16 and the other of about 8 - with 4 children. The other parties were not in any way objectionable, however due to their size, they were of course noisy - making it difficult for use to have a conversation on our table. There were plenty of free tables in a different are of the dining room - which i saw later - and i wonder why we weren't sat there from the beginning. These are minor complaints compared to our complaints about the food. It was awful. The starters aren't even worth talking about - awful. The main course of lamb was atrocious. We played 'spot the lamb' - it was mainly fat. The potatoes were sparse and hard and the veg was nowhere to be found - tiny amounts (like really tiny) of cabbage and broccoli. Whatever happened to the sharing dishes that were placed on the table? The sweets were no better, and even though we had pre-ordered, they had run out of our preferred options. This was probably the final straw. Whilst a couple of the young ladies who were waitressing were pleasant, the young man was particularly incompetent. We did complain, we were so distressed by what should have been a nice celebratory meal, and to be fair, we only had to pay for our drinks. We would have preferred however to have had a nice meal, and be treated better than we were. I would not recommend this restaurant any longer, no one seemed to care that the service was poor and the food was even worse. Such a shame, we will not be returning.
We stayed at Riverhill for 2 nights, the room was light and airy, very comfortable bed, they provided tea/coffee facilities and little extras, the biscotti biscuits were delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but the breakfast was perfect. Will definitely stay there again.
First the positive. Lovely staff who seemed genuinely pleased to be there. Sadly, the food was below par. Portions were small and not the best quality. The worst was to come. The cheese board was laughable. We really needed a magnifying glass to even find the small pieces of cheese that were served. Perhaps the chef needs reminding that the war is over and there is no need for rations. Sadly, we wont be returning.
We where in a party of 26 for our xmas nite out, I absolutely loved my meal, we where very well looked after, especially by Theo the manager and Alex a waiter, sorry didn't get other staffs names, we will be returning , nothing was too much trouble
We arrived on a cold, wet evening - our room was freezing as the window was open & the radiator was switched off. We not only found this uncomfortable but also ironic as there was a card on the dressing table stating that hotel offered the warmest welcome on The Wirral! The light fitting above the mirror in the bedroom was not working and there was a missing bulb in the bathroom. The sink tap in the bathroom dripped loudly. The following morning we noticed that the windows were very dirty. We brought all of these matters to the attention of the staff as we checked out. We were told that management would be informed & I was asked for my email address - 2 weeks have passed and I have heard nothing.
Went here for a funeral buffet which was really lovely, the room was pleasantly arranged, food varied and we'll presented, fresh sandwiches, lovely pies, staff lovely, tea and coffee plentiful. Nobody was in a rush for us to leave,
We chose the Riverhill hotel to have our wedding Breakfast and evening reception and we were not disappointed, the team at hotel were amazing and made our day so special. All our guests adults and kids alike really enjoyed the relaxed and comfortable surroundings of the hotel. Right from the start Steve and the team always made us feel that we were in the hands of professionals who supported and helped us with various things on the build up to the wedding day, nothing was too much trouble. We had a fantastic day and evening and we would highly recommend the hotel as a wedding venue
