Very slow check-in! When I arrived, there were three other parties ahead of me because the computer was down.
No elevator! And there were no rooms open on the first floor. There are 18 steps to the second floor, not easy for old people with bad backs and knees. Fortunately, the desk clerk carried my suitcase. The hotel is undergoing renovation and I was given a new room. The room was very spacious but reeked of “new carpet smell,” which are the volatile organic compounds released from new carpets. The clerk couldn’t give me the only unrenovated room open, because I booked through Expedia and all changes had to be through them. The unrenovated room would have been another $30 a night too.
The hotel has positives. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The building is attractive. The lobby is pleasing with a high ceiling and a balcony on the second floor overlooks the lobby. The room is spacious with a microwave and refrigerator. There is hot breakfast. There is a pool. Nice as it is, I would not have stayed here if I had known there was no elevator.
The location is quiet but not within walking distance of any place to eat.
