Rooms good quality, large and clean - although the floor in the bathroom was far from child friendly, it was so slippery, it made it impossible for anyone to walk on it after a shower. The kids clubs, facilities were all great. However the in hotel dining experience was just absolute chaos. The wait for food or a table in some cases was hours!! Not great when you have a hungry young child. One evening the food we ordered for our daughter did not arrive, just one example of the faults we experienced at pretty much every meal (we ate dinner out locally after our first dinner experience but couldn't do this for lunch or breakfast). Breakfast was equally as disastrous. Everyday the wrong drinks were given a number of times, the food was cold and the same everyday. Perhaps if they had spent time meeting guests who were not there to promote the hotel on social media they would have been able to rectify some of these issues.

5 Stars for kids! Generally hotel is very focused on entertaining young kids and go to many lengths to do this. My 2 young kids loved it! 4 Stars for Rooms and general Hotel: Rooms good quality, large and clean, 0 Stars for restaurant service during Lunch and Dinner was very chaotic and not structured causing much unnecessary frustration. Dishes and drinks going to wrong tables, orders getting mixed up, sometimes the food which arrived was not at the expected temperature, (cold). The general long waiting time for food to be served, which can be quite challenging when you have 2 young children who are very very hungry... One evening we waited 2 hours and 45 minutes for our main course to arrive... 5 Stars for the Staff who always tried their very best and who were always there for our kids. Bravo. If I summarize Martinhall Caiscais definitely does not deserve it's 5 Star Status but if they improve the restaurant service, and pay much more attention to details, which is what is expected for a 5 Star establishment, this hotel has allot of potential. Personal thanks to the staff which were very receptive and tried to make our stay memorable despite the many problems with the lunch & dinner restaurant service.

I really wanted to award this place with 5 stars but there are a number of areas it needs to brush up on before full points are dished out. As new parents, with a 20-week old, this was our first trip with a little one. Having packed everything bar the kitchen sink and read every review going, nobody could argue that we were under prepared! We knew this was a family resort and we were not undersold. This u-shaped hotel is spread over three floors and is clean, fresh, modern and stylish in a white and minimal furniture kind of way. Chilled spa music resonates around the communal areas while at the open plan reception information is available about bike hire, the week's forecast, shuttles into Cascais and the week's planner for activities and trips. Down a floor and there's a bar, funky furniture, pool table, Apple Mac, books, all of which overlooks the central outside thoroughfare with grass, trees and water features. Hotel rooms cover two floors on one side which is opposite one of two restaurants. This is the breakfast restaurant which is fully stocked with all the usuals but nothing stands out as being delicious. Omelettes, pancakes, fruit, sausages, eggs...they all don't taste of much. It's clean and well-presented with plenty of seating and staff though most are a little gormless. And thankfully there's no bloody cats or birds hovering. In the evening the menu is small, just three options for starter, main and dessert. It's more like a nursery than a restaurant...which I suppose is what you should expect from a 'family' hotel. The opposite can be said about the other on-site restaurant. A brilliant Italian, strangely placed above a kids club in a separate building opposite the main hotel. In between there's an epic mini-adventure park and small 3G footy pitch. Again, modern in its styling and with some really exciting looking climbing frames, zip lines, and trampolines...good enough for a 37-year old with a dodgy hamstring to be restrained from. The restaurant is part-bar. 'M Bar' to be precise. Once again, really well decorated in its own unique style. "Garden chic", says my wife. A much bigger menu with staff who are a little more alert and a better quality of dish. You can even order takeaway. There are a few issues which should be easy to clear up to make this hotel worthy of maximum TripAdvisor ratings, for example; - House keeping failed to make up our boy's bed one day, nor did they restock sugar, milk, cotton buds, know, stuff you'd take for granted. - On arrival, we saw a flip-flip on the ground below our balcony which was still there four days later. - Reception failed to cancel a class we'd originally signed for and then asked them to cancel. - For a family hotel they'd run out of cot top changers and high chairs for hotel rooms, and we had pre-booked. Mrs M had a Spa treatment which was spot on. We were lead to believe there are heated pools on site. Well, we tested all 6 pools and none are. The later you leave it on a hot day, the warmer the shallow pool at the 'Pool Hangout' gets which is much more agreeable to a 20-week old! All in all, I'm not put off about coming back. Its first-class for children under-8 quite simply because there's so much to keep them entertained.

Heaven for kids. They even have menus for toddlers. Food is beautiful, gorgeous playground, option of three different pools..Gorgeous hotel. Very child-friendly staff. Five star luxury with every possible child amenity and oceans to do in the nearby Cascais...

If you'll come to Martinhal you'll find very good services, large rooms & bathrooms. Also, the hotel is very nice decorated, the pools are in lovely areas and spa offers wonderfull massages. It's definitely a 5 star hotels with a lot of facilities. Being a family hotel you'll find a lot of kids, which is not so romantic for a couple but belive me it's worth to come to this hotel no matter what.

This is a beautiful new hotel which is set up quite well for families (although some things are not so family friendly- e.g. Huge glass staircase from reception down to bar/restaurants- small kids could easily fall down the stairs) also from restaurants kids can walk to pool which is not gated at all... ) Our room was lovely with big balcony and HUGE bathroom. Housekeeping was great! Would suggest child locks on mini bar to stop struggles with kids wanting all the goodies inside! Kids club area is lots of fun for kids, the pool there is lovely and warm and the staff who work I. The kids club are GREAT! The M bar is so-so from a food perspective. Again stairs at front and back of bar (easy for small kids to fall down) The spa area could do with the maintenance. Had a massage which was wonderful! Transfer to/from airport was smooth, comfortable and great for kids with seats & movie. The Restaurants though really let this hotel down. The service was a complete mess: 30 mins just to order, 1.5 hours to get starters, raw food delivered to table.... this is not ok for a 5 star, especially not one focused on kids. We were half board so continued eating even though a disaster every night! There are no other restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. If the hotel manages to solve their major issues with their restaurants- starting with management at the top. This hotel would be lovely. Some other points which could be good: Add more play possibilities outside the restaurants in garden area. Also a mini disco would be great. Add gate to prevent kids leaving restaurant area and going to pool. Add something to bathroom floors to stop them being SO slippery. Provide a service to hire equipment for beaches (e.g. Sun umbrellas) have possibilities to get snacks any time of day- at least have bowls of fruit available as kids can be constantly hungry!

Our time at Martinhal Cascais was perfect in every way. The staff were friendly and helpful, our room was excellent and comfortable, and our children had a great time as well. The perfect place to stay as a family!

Stayed in a villa with my son, his partner and my grandson. The airport transfer was excellent. Cases were taken to the villa for us and my grandson really enjoyed the ride in the buggy and his goody bag with hat and soft toy. The villas are really well equipped and have a potty, toilet seat, high chair, stair gates, airer, washing basket, pegs, iron, ironing board and toy box. Childrens cutlery and plates are also provided. The welcome tray of cereal, bread, butter, spreads, biscuits, milk, orange juice and serviettes was also very useful. Washing up liquid, tea towels and cloths are provided. The two year old had to sleep in a cot upstairs as the single beds were down stairs - a toddler bed option would be nice. Both rooms have showers but there is a baby bath that can be used for smaller children. There is also a changing station and nappy bin.The toiletries are very nice. Flip flops are provided for adults and children. Bath robes are also provided and although we saw children in small ones we did not have one for the 2 year old. Our villa was initially short of a hair dryer but as soon as we mentioned it one was provided. The hotel is in the middle of two golf courses and there is not a lot in a short walking distance but the hotel does have a lot to do. We did walk to the coast one day but it is best to use the shuttle bus or a taxi. The childrens meals are very large and the evening meals in the main dinning room can be very slow. Young children do get bored even with the staffed play area. You can have room service in the hotel or a take away for the villas but was disappointed this was not included if you had half board. The pool by the kids club is now covered and very pleasant. The staff are all excellent with children although this was obviously the start of the season and there were a lot of new staff. They were also still getting some things ready. The large climbing frame was taped off and when it was opened was sticky and smelly due to be revarnished. We had a great family holiday with not too many extra expenses as all the play equipment is provided and keeps children busy. The VW camper van is a favourite. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. The wi-fi is very good. It is strange to stay in such a lovely hotel and not have to be worried what the children are doing. I'm glad I don't have to clean all the sticky finger prints off the masses of glass

I'm mainly writing this review to say how much we (my wife and 9 year old son and I) enjoyed staying at the Martinhal Cascais this week - this is a really lovely hotel, great concept, beautiful location and highest on the list - all the staff were really responsive, friendly and concerned with how our stay was going. Location First - the hotel is in the middle of a sequence of immaculately groomed and watered golf courses and lovely private homes - lots of potential for an evening stroll around the block, just taking in the landscape and the birdlife that flies and wanders around the grounds. (I'm not a golfer, but these courses are gorgeous). The hotel is about a 10 minute taxi (or shuttle bus) ride from downtown Cascais, which itself is 40 minutes by suburban rail from Cais do Sodre in central Lisbon - transfer from the hotel to the town is €4.50 for three of us and an Uber was €7 (lots of availability in Cascais). As well as all of that, the hotel has cycle hire (good quality 18 gear country-road bikes) and it's a mere 6km to some outstandingly beautiful beaches- Cresmina and Guincho - with an Atlantic-side cycle track the whole way - when we stayed, the sky and sea were an incredible shade of blue - but beware, these are surf beaches and there is wind! Our room - a suite - was a good size, had a living room with a sofabed, a proper table and chairs for room service dining, three TVs (one in the bathroom mirror), a huge double bed and a double-fronted patio / garden area. It was a really nice room to stay a few days in and a great place to come back to after a hot day, to chill out and read a book in the cool (great aircon) or sit out on the lawn with a glass of wine. Oddly, the video on demand didn't have a particularly great choice of kids or family movies, which is weird. Double weird - the wifi- which should have enabled my son to have watched kids' Netflix on his tablet - was laggy, kept disconnecting and oftentimes, just had a really weak signal. Kids' facilities - huge and varied! Family football at 16.45 every day, a pool hangout area with two pools, balls, showers, beanbags, loungers and a bar; a double zipwire, trampolines, a basketball court..! The hotel staff who supervised the kids' games were genuinely great - charismatic, friendly and really good with the little people. Food: breakfast - good and varied, hot and cold, nice setting, coffee pretty good. Bar food and drinks: good Sagres, great selection of wines, nice cocktails, smoothies, juices, sandwiches, burgers, pasta. All good stuff. Main, fairly-fine dining Portuguese restaurant: on the night we ate (at €90 between three of us), slow, chaotic and with cold food. Ho-hum. Finishing on the positives, Martinhal Cascais was an excellent base in a brilliant location, with great staff and facilities and is one of the best family-orientated places that we've ever stayed in. It does have some wrinkles to iron out, though.

Perfect for family holidays - we had a great time. Everything was great - just to make it short. Promises on web site and fotos are kept - it is really like that. The team is outstanding - all great people (especially Monica from Guest Relations) - they all really care. Food is very high quality, especially for kids. Very small recommendation/wish: The menu for kids is perfect. The menu for adults could have some more items - after 6 days it was a little boring...... Thank you Martinhal Team for great holidays!
