Very well kept hotel with friendly and helpful staff at a great location in a small and nice city. The room was big and very clean. The pool area was also lovely with free towels and a bar with good food.
This hotel is great if you want to combine a city break with beach and pool relaxing. It is ideally placed for jumping on the train to visit Lisbon, from where you can catch another train to visit Sintra (a must see place), but a taxi ride is the better option from Estoril to Sintra especially if you asked to be dropped off at the hilltop palace. Back to the hotel .. very laid back and relaxing. It might have been just when we were there, but apart from at breakfast, no one seemed to be around in the morning and there was definitely no rushing to get sun beds etc. Some mechanism noise at night (aircon or pipework), but otherwise quiet, no road or bar noise to contend with. Our rooms were fine, we had no issues to contend with or report. The wifi worked well, my only gripe I would have liked a bigger free of charge safe. The sandy beach is just beyond the station, so again only a short walk. Very clean and well maintained, but I saved my swimming for the hotel pool as the Atlantic was a bit cool. No problem with finding somewhere to eat in the evening. There are some seafront and local restaurants dotted a round, with a wider more lively choice at Cascais which is a 30 minute walk along the sea front.
I'll preface this review with the fact that following reflects feedbacks from over two dozen guests who stayed at the hotel to attend my wedding at a nearby venue. I personally stayed at Inglaterra for a week with my family, and most of the guests stayed 3+ nights at the hotel. Summary: great hotel with an even better pool. Staff are very nice. Overall, great hotel with only minor shortcomings. Pros: *Rooms are nice! The rooms in the new wing are modern and have nice balconies. Some suites on the higher floors have views towards the ocean and the pool. Thorough daily cleaning. *Pool is better than expected. Usually, hotel pools end up disappointing due to deceptive photo jobs, but this one doesn't. The pool is big and also decently deep (I think around 1.5m deep throughout). It's a freshwater pool -- bonus points. *Plenty of seating around the pool. Some hotel pools are full of people who call dibs on chairs in the morning -- this was not an issue at the peak of June. *Staff are nice. They went out of their way to get us nice rooms for my family. Also, one of my friends screwed up and checked in a day later than he had actually booked -- Inglaterra didn't charge him for the missed night and pushed back the reservation while keeping the room open for him when he arrived early in the morning the next day. The hotel was absolutely booked throughout my stay, so they definitely took a loss to accommodate my friend's mistake. Kudos for good service. Good recommendations on restaurants. *Breakfast is generous, and good. Selection is great. *Location is fantastic. It's within a 5 minute walking distance to the casino and the beach. Lots of restaurants nearby. You can probably get to this hotel with a train from Lisbon if you don't mind lugging ur bags for 10 minutes. Also, due to its proximity to the Casino, uber drivers are no more than 5 minutes away (even at ridiculously early hours). Uber from Lisbon Airport should cost ~25 Euros and about the same to the centre of Lisbon. *Parking wasn't an issue. I was able to park in front of the hotel for 8 days with no issues (nor costs). Cons: *Toiletries are nothing to write home about. This is probably quick win if they choose to improve their offering. *It is necessary to have the keycard inserted upon entry to start the A/C (probably in only some rooms). Not a big deal, but it took a few minutes for the rooms to get to a cool temperate in the dead of summer (35+ degrees outside). *Some rooms required a key for the safe. I suppose this may be safer key-pad operated safes that can be re-set, but this required a nominal daily safe rental fee. *Bar is nice, but closed a bit early for my taste. Overall, there are probably 2 really good hotels with decent vibes in the area -- it's the Inglaterra or the Intercontinental. I had few guests who stayed at Inglaterra who are contemplating coming back for a vacation to just relax and the pool and enjoy the restaurants nearby, which I guess is the ultimate compliment.
The building itself is a beautiful property. It's a charming early 20th century building (20's or 30's?) and features beautiful interiors and lobby. It's an older property, but the theme is sort of arty with mannequins and displays throughout. This aspect made it great! Once in the room though, the property does show it's age in not such a good way. The air conditioning really struggles to cool some of the rooms and needs to be upgraded I think. We also had a bit of a flap after check out with supposed damage caused to a lampshade when many of the fixtures were worn and not in the best condition when we checked in. Service was generally good but was somewhat inconsistent. Check in staff were fantastically helpful. Upon check in, my friend and I advised that we had booked a two twin room rather than a king when they gave us a king bed. It was very nice of them to upgrade us to a more spacious two twin suite! She brought us to the room at check in and oriented us to see if we had any questions. It was really above and beyond and we were very appreciative. Service at breakfast was great and staff were very friendly and accommodating. My friend and I even came down late one day around 10:40 (services ends at 10:30) to see if we could grab a coffee and staff were still accommodating and offered us some food before they finished clean up. One issue though was that the hotel seemed to cater to older guests and can make the property feel a bit stuffy/up tight sometimes. The hotel advertising had all of these 'be daring' interior advertising and signs and says the property is 'more than an experience'. The roof top pool was beautiful and we went swimming one evening after dinner after inquiring with hotel staff if we could. Shortly after we got in the water however, some older hotel guests complained and hotel staff shut off the pool lights. I understand it's hard for hotels to please all hotel guests but It just seems like something that could have been handled better. Overall, I would say it's a lovely property which may need some upgrades to furnishings and air conditioning. As for service, it was sometimes great, sometimes frustrating. I would have to reevaluate before staying here again.
Spacious, stylish room with balcony. Bathroom with big shower -always a bonus. Friendly & attentive staff at check in. Rooftop swimming pool fabulous and never too busy. Hotel was in good location near to the beaches, train station, casino etc. Decor was contemporary and elegant with a touch of glamour ! Beautiful black & white photos on display. Breakfast was the only thing that let them down - 4* hotel with 3* breakfast. Truly awful coffee served out of a boiler - like something you'd get at a bad conference ! Limited choice of fresh fruit. Even the boiled egg didn't taste good ......disappointing ... However overall this hotel was worth a visit
We spent 4 nights in the inglaterra hotel as last part of our holiday in Portugal. Our room was not a 4 stars level, above all the bathroom! Moreover the room was not the one we saw in booking.com where we did the reservation but another one, older and in the small bathroom there was a bathtub with a dirty curtain The level of cleaning was very low, despite we told the front desk about. The telephone in the room did not work and ... what about the key that we had to rent for the safer???? This is hard to believe considering what we paid for the accommodation and for the level of they claim... The breakfast was included and it was disappointing as well! The croissant were not cooked, the bread was the one of the day before and the fruit not fresh The second day there was a problem with the water in the hotel (and apparently in the area) due to some work outside, we remained without water the day the evening, the night and the morning after. No shower, no water in the toilet ... and they did nothing to manage this emergency , "it's not our fault" Upon request ... they just gave to the guests a bottle of water We had to cancel our reservation for dinner outside (without a shower after a day around it was impossible) and we had to remain in the hotel for the dinner , we asked for a coffee and they said " sorry there is no water so no coffee!".... This was the only one we did not find adequate in our holiday As last point... one more smile would be welcome! (Except the man at the lobby that repaired our telephone)
Very nice hotel..good location..stayed in the newer part of the hotel which is quite noisy from early morning traffic...sound proofed balcony doors would be highly recommended..excellent and courteous staff..there is limited free parking available.
Beside the very good location we reallly apreciated the hootel style, very cosy and linekd to fashion Rooms are either historical or very modern and with a nice terrace. Both worth a visit. We also got extremely good recomandation about local restaurants on the beach. Wehn we'll go back to Estroil we will absolutely com back to this hotel
The perfect place for our honeymoon. We felt very welcome by all staff and the VIP service when we arrived to our room was just unforgettable. The breakfast has a variety of items that suits all tastes, with different details everyday. The decoration is very exquisite, with furniture and details you will never forget, vintage mixed with classic style. We were lucky the weather was great and it was sunny in the pool bar.
My husband and I stayed here for my birthday. It is an excellent Hotel with excellent staff members. The food is good as well. It is very convenient to the casino of Estroil, which is the largest in Europe! You will not forget your stay here. The staff goes out of their way to make sure the guest feel at home. The rooms are well appointed.
