Booked because we read they had an oxygen room, in case we felt we needed it during our stay. Not needed at all, but we greatly enjoyed the hotel, a nice refuge in Lhasa. Service was uniformly first rate and actually a real treat in the Horizon Club. The club is a great place to unwind, especially if the restaurant buffet is hit with a large tour group. Buffet was always good. Our room was first rate - quiet, great bed and all the expected niceties. We would definitely stay again. The Shangri-La is an oasis in a bustling city.

A clean, generously-sized room, the closet space is limited, the thermostat a challenge to regulate, and the shower floods into the bathroom area. Since the staff does not understand English in general, it was difficult to communicate our needs to them. The hotel does have a doctor on staff who cares for the needs of people suffering from the 12,000 ft altitude. Again, the doctor does not speak English and I had to provide translation service for the other tourists. It would be nice to have an oxygen source in the room, which could be included in the room rate. That would circumvent the services of the doctor, whose charge is nomily $350 U.S. for a consult and oxygen treatment.

Overcharged. Prebooked hotel room charges were ignored. Staff wanted about $125 USD more a night, Before they would give me a room they wanted me to sign a form authorizing these charges. Our guide said that they wouldn't chage us this amount. Got home and there it was on my credit card. Called the hotel and all of a sudden no one could speak English. Guide said ththa she had problems with this manager in the past. Still trying to dispute the over charge. Beware.

We stayed here three nights and had breakfast and dinner here too the food was very good, the service was better than Beijing and very friendly. We would definitely come back to stay here if we are ever in this part of China/Tibet. Try some of the local food.

The Shangri-la was a wonderful surprise. Upon arrival you are greeted with singers And given a traditional Tibetan scarf. The lobby is large and attractive. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast buffet had a wonderful variety os Eastern and western dishes, and surprisingly the Yak yogurt was delicious. There is also an oxygen room, which came in very handy after a day of Sightseeing. This is definitely the place to stay in Lhasa

This hotel knocked us down:) We have stayed in many great hotels all over the world, but this one was total surprise. We booked the room for three with Potala view and get fantastic room on the second floor. Room was very spacious, lovely furnished, very clean and we almost felt like we are not in the hotel. We had some troubles with curtains at the beginning, but friendly and kind staff immediately solved the problem. Bed was extremely comfortable and we “slept like little babies”. The bathroom knocked us down – fantastic, spacious and very well maintained. It is hard to believe that bathroom could be so spacious and cozy at the same time. Swimming pool was also fantastic, clean and with lovely atmosphere. We went for a dinner to hotel’s restaurant, and there was a big variety of food from different cuisines available in the buffet. We also used the access to the lounge on second floor to have breakfast and quick dinner. That was a very convenient option. We enjoyed fantastic private atmosphere with a few other guests nevertheless the variety of food was a bit smaller than in the main restaurant. Overall experience in Shangri-la hotel in Lhasa was just perfect.

We were not expecting great hotels in Tibet, but this one was terrific. Great staff and in a reasonable location with great views from the observatory. The food served in the restaurants was first class with a wide variety ranging from Asian to European. I really took a fancy to one of the seafood dishes. Ate more than i should have in our 4 night stay. The staff were very thoughtful as my wife suffered from altitude sickness, one of the cleaning ladies provided her with a small oxygen bottle and fixed our humidifier. Cant go wrong if you choose this hotel.

Excellent bed. Great bathroom and shower. everything worked. Excellent service and the best dinner buffet I think we've ever had. not central to Lhasa in location. In room safe. excellent maid service with 4 bottles of complementary water every day. Top notch

Very nice hotel and very nice staff. Nice lounge without liqueurs breakfast good but in the main restaurant Useful oxygen lounge if you are not used to high altitude. Rooms are big and clean No turn down service (!)

As a part of our guided Tibet tour we stayed at the Shangri-La Lhasa. Because we have had very good experience at other Shangri-La properties we specifically requested this to the travel agency during the planing of our trip. At our arrival the check-in was smooth and as golden circle members we have been upgraded to a very nice and big room. As a welcome we received in the room a fruit basket and oxygen bottles to make our acclimatisation easier. The extra bed for our daughter was also well prepared. Although we came to Lhasa by train we still felt the effect of altitude difference, luckily, the Shangri-La has a special lounge with oxygen and barometric pressure ratio 50% higher level then Lhasa , which is near to figures at lower altitudes. Also, very near to the Oxygen bar, there is a medical assistance with a doctor 24 hours available. The swimming pool is located at the same floor and we made use of it as well. Everything is very clean and in tidy condition. At this point we want to share that the architecture and decoration of the whole property is among the best we saw until now. The design was made with much thoughts , the architect in charge (a Singaporean) stayed in Lhasa for an extensive period in order to reflect the Tibetan culture in every aspect. As we had a 2 week trip in various parts of Tibet (Shigatse, Mount Everest base camp etc) we decided to enjoy our meals in the hotel. The food quality is outstanding, it is obvious that the management is very engaged to serve various choices. We tried the buffet dinner as well, it stunned us that despite the logistical difficulties, fresh seafood is available. Also, the patisserie is among the most delicious we ever tried in Hotels. For guests whom would like to have a bit more privacy during dinner time, there is the Shu Garden (Chinese themed restaurant) available which we tried and we returned there again as the food and the atmosphere was very good. Finally we would like to express our thankfulness to the General Manager, Mrs.Claudia Lee to make our stay an unforgettable lifetime experience. Finally we would like to express our thankfulness to the General Manager, Mrs.Claudia Lee to make our stay an unforgettable lifetime experience.
