I am struggling to find something good to redeem our stay in what purports to be a 4 star establishment. Well the lady on reception, Vera, was pleasant and helpful. I had booked some time ago, not realising it was Semana Santa, which was a bonus as there was a lot of interesting activity and processions in the old town. Unfortunately it is quite a long 20 minute walk to the Cathedral for old legs. Now the bad! The garage parking was an extra €12 per night, and we felt we needed the security as our car was fully loaded for our ferry back to UK the next day. The first room we were allocated 318 at first I thought was in a smokers corridor as it smelt of cigarettes as we walked along the corridor. When we entered the room it was replaced by a smell of sewage, so straight back to Vera in reception who changed us to 307. This didn’t smell so bad, but had twin beds when I had asked for a double. I really couldn’t be bothered to go down again to reception. The Wi-fi in the room was the slowest I have experienced since the days of dual-purpose, I speed tested it at 0.27mbps download and close to zero upload. No streaming video then, which was a let down as in common with most Spanish 'International' hotels, Tryp have no foreign language programming, and all programs originally in English are dubbed into Spanish, without original language sub titles. The Hotel restaurant wasn't open, and of course most restaurants in eon don't serve until 2130 hours,so we stopped dinner which was probably a blessing, but madame grumpy enough to compile this. On top of this, the shower in the bath was lethally slippery, with no rubber mat or grip aid on the bath floor. Luckily a handle fixed to the wall helped a little. Breakfast -if we had taken it would gave been an additional €12 per person, so fortunately, as it wasn't raining we found a nearby coffee shop, and made do with the Spanish equivalent of toast without butter, and a reasonable coffee. In sum, the worst hotel stay for us in the past few years, and we will hesitate to book Meia in Spain again.
Very nice hotel, with friendly reception staff! Clean, standard rooms. Free parking! 15 min walk from Old town. Continental breakfast. In the old town i recommend to take a Tour Train 4€ which will drive you thru all To See monuments.
A bit outside of the central old town, the Tryp Leon Hotel is located in a residential neighborhood. The advantage is that there is an opportunity for street parking for free; if no spaces are available, the hotel lot is available for 11 euro. The other advantage is a market located basically across the street. The walk to the old town takes about 15 minutes, so this location is worth it for the quiet and more solid hotel walls (although we did have a hostile child upstairs for a while with wall banging). The room was decorated in a simple, modern style with a long desk area, two chairs, as well as luggage stand and nightstands. There is also a closet. The room was very spacious and the bathroom had nice tile on the walls and floor. Amenities are probably standard for the TRYP hotels – dental kit, shaving kit, etc; shampoo, shower gel and soap are from the refillable containers with respect to eco-sensitibility. There was adequate lighting from the various table and overhead lamps. A stocked mini-bar is also provided.
Trip Leon is a modern hotel just outside the city centre, and is a brisk 15 minute or more leisurely 20 minute stroll to the town centre. I read a comment in a previous review suggesting that the reviewer would not feel safe walking here at night. Although the section of the main avenue nearest the hotel isn't the smartest in the world, that fact remains that the whole walk into town is on a main, well lit and populated street. We walked it several times and never felt unsafe. The hotel has underground car parking that has no height access problems, but I found that whereas the parking spaces were nicely wide, they were a tad short for my Discovery. The receptionist had suggested that this might be the case and, just as I did, I suggest that you take the lift down to the garage area to assess if it is suitable for your car. The alternative is to use the street parking which, as the hotel is not in a particularly built up area, is generous. And the receptionist assured me that all parking in the immediate area is perfectly safe. Our third floor room was a Premium room and was very large, nicely decorated and very comfortable. My one criticism is that wi-fi, which is such a modern requirement, is so slow as to be almost useless. When we checked in we were advised that the breakfast buffet is 12 Euros per person, but if you book it at check in, it is 9 Euros. We took this option and it was very good value with a wide choice, including hot options of scrambled and fried eggs, bacon, sausage etc. The staff throughout our stay were very pleasant and, all in all, this hotel suited us perfectly.
We chose León as our final stop on the long drive north from our Dénia home to our ultimate destination the Picos de Europa. We concur with the 20 minute walk i to the centre of town (which was fantastic once we arrived by the way) but we found the district slightly intimidating and certainly wouldn't have walked it after dark. Fortunately there were plenty of taxi options. There is nothing actually wrong with the hotel other than everything seemed to us to be slightly tired but we do have one major gripe! In this day and age an efficient wifi is considered a must have surely? The network in this hotel was practically non existent! For a major hotel chain in a large city this is not acceptable! One other recommendation, the underground car park (11€ per night), like a lot of Spanish hotels is quite tight and great care is recommended when manoeuvring thru the car park or selecting spaces.
Nice place to stay in Leon for one night. Hotel not in the center and it will take about 20 min. to walk. Large rooms and bathrooms, very clean. Staff is very nice. Good breakfast and good WI-FI speed.
This hotel is newly built on the outskirts of Leon about a 20minute walk from the old downtown quarter. Built in a residential area the hotel is relatively quiet with few surrounding bars or restaurants. Our check in was long because their was only one person on the counter and a party of 5 had arrived before us. Not a good start after our long Camino walk. The lady on check in was friendley and helpful however. Our room was decent size but the bed was not very comfortable. What really marked the place down for us was the heat in our room. The ac did not work properly and we had a room on the front of the building which was subject to string sunlight all day. The front desk sent a cleaner to try to resolve the problem. Need less to say she was unsuccessful. We opened our door and 4 th floor window to get some breeze and a slightly lower temp. Shower, bathroom was good. Fridge was in the room. We had breakfast the next day which was Buffett style help yourself and this was ok. We would not stay in the hotel again because of its location too far from the cultural centre and the poor air conditioning. A pity as the hotel is relatively new and inexpensive.
Good location with comfortable clean rooms and easy parking. Able to walk downtown and or to the Cathedral. Quiet and clean neighborhood. Didn't use the restaurant or bar but found good eating downtown.
fairly modern hotel, staff very good and helpful rooms were clean and comfortable plenty of parking did not use the restaurant but the bar was a bit dull wifi poor. a 20 min walk into the town plenty of small lively plazas in the old town worth the walk
Friendly staff, clean rooms, safe area. Wifi a bit slow when operating. Room very well maintain, one drawback was room in the mansord part so no view to the outside even though considered premium. Good, safe location.
