In a beautiful setting the hotel is lovely and rather than straight forward luxurious is more shabby chic. We had a nice room named after the shirt maker Turnbull and Asser. It had a very comfy bed and a really old style WC. Bar is lovely and a nice place to relax whilst perusing the menu. The food is the star in this hotel it was simply wonderful and complimented by a fine wine list. My wife's duck was perfect and so tender. My lamb was equally as good and service was first class.

Looking forward to staying here but overall experience was disappointing. Room quite basic and poorly equipped - for example, no decoration/paintings etc. on walls, plug sockets on floor behind dressing table so have to kneel on floor to plug in - replaced tv whilst there but left no room for kettle and tea-making facilities so just left on the floor. Food very average - service poor in the restaurants - at one meal pork fillet was pink in the middle, hot dessert was cold and sloppy - despite comments to waiter no-one came to see me - eventually complained to the duty manager. Service excellent in the golf centre.

This was a last minute booking to break up a journey. Approaching the building and grounds is lovely. The scenery is fabulous and the grounds and farmland rise up around the hotel majestically. Check-in was excellent and i'm just sorry that I forgot to ask the woman's name who helped me. She was first rate. I stayed in the slightly inappropriately names Lyttle Room. It isn't massive but comfortable including a much needed fan as the weather has been more than temperate and the room is consequently quite warm! I popped down to the gym which is in a building about quarter of a mile away (so a good warm up). The facility is based in the old stables and is a stunning setting and satisfactorily empty. There is a very good collection of different machines and when i was there nobody on them. In the evening I grabbed a drink at the bar before going in to dinner. I was served by Sarah who was interesting and interested. Her knowledge and service were outstanding. Dinner was fantastically good. Much better than expected and genuinely excellent. The duo egg with truffle etc was delicious. The lamb was tasty and tender. Just a pity I didn't have room for a dessert though I did get an excellent Irish coffee. Overall, an excellent stay and a great break away from everything

Difficult to rate this venue which is why I suspect it only has 73% very positive/positive reviews. On the one hand it's a 5-star venue: stunning buildings, beautiful grounds, very peaceful. Spa treatment was great in ideal setting. Staff friendly. Lots to do: golf course, clay-pigeon-shooting, falconry, spa, tennis court, incredible gym etc... Cocktails were fantastic. On the other hand it falls short and merits only 3 stars: 1. Food: average. Breakfast is very basic for a hotel of this standing, bar food average (my steak sandwich was mostly bread and onions, steak was paper thin). 2. Service: average. We waited ages in the bar area to get a menu, order and get our drinks. Other guests suffered same fate. 2-3 members of staff seemed permanently glued to the computer/till trying to get it to work. 3. Weather was beautiful but terrace seemed like after-thought. We were not allowed to have full lunch outside, only limited bar menu. Moreover, we had to get up and go to the bar to ask for menus, order food and drinks and pay bills. Makes no sense. 4. Despite stunning weather, huge grounds and great views, nowhere to lounge. No deckchairs or loungers. Makes no sense. 5. Pool is indoors, small, ridiculously hot and smell of chlorine off-putting. 6. no newspapers were available 7. During my spa treatment i was asked to shower and change into new bathrobe. None were available so i had to schlep to the front desk and ask for one. Some lockers had keys, other did not. 8. I ironed my shirt before dinner but iron had clearly never been cleaned and plate was covered in black, sticky residue which transferred to my shirt. Not sure whether stains will come out. Pointed this out to reception. No apology or compensation offered. 9. Our room was pleasant but very, very hot. no air-conditioning, just a fan and a small window (in urgent need of a clean). Walk-in-wardrobe in need of some TLC - basically a hole in the wall. Stapleford Park has the potential to be one of the most impressive venues and hotels in the UK but is let down in too many areas and falls short of being a SLH. With small changes, better-trained staff, better food, better use of terrace and grounds, some air-conditioning and other tweaks to the rooms and spa it could be great. At present it is merely good.

Visited Stapleford Park today for afternoon tea to celebrate a special occasion. The food was all lovely, we did not have to ask for extras they kept offering more. The service was excellent. We were VERY well looked after by Andrew and his team. Many Thanks.

We took advantage of an offer for a one night stay with two rounds of golf. Somewhat different from our usual venues, the hotel has a superior feel about it, and the level of service is high. We had an attic type room which was well appointed, although slightly quirky with a large wooden beam dividing the bathroom. Difficult to fault the hotel overall as it has a lot of character and is very different from other run of the mill hotels. Only niggle we had was the dinner menu, which we thought was over priced and pretentious. There was some sort of bar menu on offer, but it was unclear where that was being served, and it also seemed on the expensive side. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of options available. The best thing about the golf course was that it was very quiet, but was very long and covered a huge area. The wifi was very good and worked well in our room. Overall we enjoyed our stay,

Stayed for 1 night as part of my wife's 50th birthday celebrations had booked a grand room which turned out to be the turnbull and asser room Lovely appointed room with good facilities but no opening windows a fan was provided but made so much noise that it was hard to sleep and also still too hot Did mention this when leaving but was told just yes we do have a problem with this in some rooms At the price the hotel charges something should be done to address this I would not want to stay in this too again during the summer Had dinner in the restaurant which was superb excellent food and great attentive service from the young waiter could not fault this But was again disappointed to find that breakfast was a serve yourself buffet I would of expected table service of my breakfast from a hotel if this quality ok for buffet service of starters but not main breakfast Bacon was hard and overdone from being in heated pan and eggs were tired and congealed I did wait for fresh eggs as the ones remaining were unbeatable but having waited for these couldn't be bothered to wait again for fresh bacon The setting is amazing and it's a lovely hotel but it does need some issues addressing

Felt we deserved a couple of nights away in a hotel with a good reputation. We were not disappointed. As we pulled up in the car park, a member of staff came to our car to take our cases in the hotel. Booked in and then, as we were being taken to our room, we were basically given a guided tour of the hotel. What a fabulous looking hotel which dated back many centuries. Our room, which overlooked a croquet lawn and further away the golf course, was superbly furnished and was done out to look like it was historically. Fantastic. Our dinner on both nights was simply superb and the restaurant had a superb decor. The menu was innovative and certainly had the mind thinking. Again, staff here were tremendous and explained in detail what the dishes being offered consisted of. Wine was a bit expensive but to be expected in such a prestigious hotel. Breakfasts equally good with a very wide and well varied choice. Briefly, you could start with cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, cold meats etc. Then, if you haven't eaten too much already, you can then select your hot breakfast. I would certainly recommend the full English --top quality ingredients. Made use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Lockers and towels are available in the changing rooms. This was a superb couple of days away. The overall lasting memory was how good the staff were. Every member of staff were extremely professional and very quick to assist, BUT, in no way intrusive. This really is the hallmark of Stapleford Park. Many thanks to all.

We chose Stapleford Park for my mother in laws 90th birthday celebration yesterday. Firstly I would like to thank Shanine, events manager who went above and beyond to ensure everything was just right for our occasion. My mother in law is in a wheelchair and the staff could not have been more helpful in ensuring her comfort. We dined in the Billiard room, which was perfect for us. The staff were friendly and efficient at all times. I would particularly like to thank John, who went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. We had booked falconry for after our meal, which unfortunately had to be cut short due to bad weather. Again, the falconer Pete, could not have been more helpful. He was able to at least show us the birds and even got one out for a short fly. He was very interesting and we will definitely go back and do this again when the weather is more favourable. We then went back for Champagne, tea and cake to finish off our day. In short, Stapleford Park is a wonderful location, with great staff, good food and excellent service. We have visited Stapleford Park on various occasions over the last 20 years and always been pleased, however I do feel that particularly the service is better than it has ever been. Thank you to all at Stapleford Park that contributed to making this such special day.

This place is truly outstanding, The staff are so kind and friendly and they. An not do enough for you. The surroundings are breathtaking. The food and drink were presented very well. We stayed at a cottage on the grounds and the service to ensure our stay was comfortable was remarkable. Will definitely be returning.
