Booked at the last minute less than a week before after discovering the hotel I booked back in May had been closed by the police for suspicion of financial fraud. Set back from the beach about a 5 minute walk. Modern hotel. We were given an 'upgrade' apparently. Large double room on second floor, spacious and with two separate balconies. Room smelt over powering of bleach when we initially entered, not sure if that was intentional or not. At least it was clean. Usual amenities, air con, mini fridge, safe etc. Could see the sea just from one balcony. Think only the 2nd floor rooms offer these. Hotel does have a pool which is small but perfectly adequate and never a lack of beds around it. Not too strong chlorinated either. Plus it has a cool water jacuzzi alongside. Small poolside bar which just serves drinks. Apparently the hotel has its own stretch of private beach 900 meters away serviced by a shuttle which we never used. You still pay €20 a day for a parasol and two beds - you can get this on the beach 5 mins walk away so what's the point of going in the shuttle where you're reliant on a lift back! Hotel Manager you should review how much you charge for this. Gym doesn't open till 10am which was a disappointment to my daughter, especially as she was told it opened at 8am when we checked in and got up early the next morning especially. Wifi unreliable too, little coverage in room.
The public rooms in this sprawling 4-star hotel are promising, but the rooms are almost comically mediocre -- cheap furnishings, hard bed, and a general air of being left unfinished. The bathroom had a fine-looking shower, but they forgot to include a place to put the soap or shampoo which had therefore to go on the floor. The wifi was at best weak and out most of the time. The air conditioning was the only thing that worked well, and the staff was pleasant. But, for what it is, it was overpriced. Not to mention the fact that the beautiful part of Sperlonga is up in the medieval town, where there are much better hotels. This one is tolerable only if the others are sold out.
Stayed here for a couple of nights in June, and had a great time. It's a nice hotel, although it's getting a little tired when you get away from the main building. The room was great - spacious, clean, with a fantastic bathroom & shower. The staff were helpful, friendly, and tolerant of our less than perfect Italian. It's also in a fantastic location, less than 5 minutes walk to the beach, although their beach section is quite far away and requires a minibus to get to (we instead went to somewhere nearby). Overall it was a nice place, reasonably priced in comparison to other hotels nearby, and Sperlonga is a wonderful resort that I'd recommend to anybody.
Hotel is 300 metres from beach. Rooms are clean, comfortable and modern. Breakfast is fresh and ample. Very central. Hotel staff generally very helpful. One but, they have a private beach club with shuttle, but only open on weekends, which they don't tell you. Not a real problem with beach down the road. Sperlonga is spectacular!
I was disappointed in our stay. We booked a room with WIFI access, yet, the entire weekend, the staff could not fix the internet so that it worked in our room. On arrival, we noticed this problem and told the staff immediately. They did not do anything to try and fix the problem. It was not a giant issue but it was annoying because we obviously paid for a room with working internet. They did nothing to offer to change our room to a room that had working internet or try to compensate with some other service. The main male worker at the front desk was rude and dismissive; I was extremely unimpressed. Breakfast was good, and the room was fine other than that it was extremely warm in the room no matter what we did with the A/C and leaving the door open. We liked the large balcony space and would have felt that it was perfect had it had working internet. Upon checkout, the staff failed to mention that if we asked them to order a taxi, it would be a set price that we paid on our room bill. We paid 30 Euros for a 10 minute ride to the train station, and I was furious. We only had paid 20 Euros from the station to the hotel and I thought that was a lot. In Rome, a ride that short would never cost that much. There was not much arguing I could do at that point because we needed a taxi to not miss our train. Also, we booked our room online and had a set price of 70 Euros a night. On check out, I paid for the total bill, and as the taxi was pulling away from the hotel, realized that I had been charged 83 Euros a night. I went back in and the staff was not very cooperative without me raising my voice. I had the printed booking from their website, yet they kept repeating that they don't accept "booking.com" discounts. I had booked the room for that price on the hotel's own website. Only after some arguing did they agree I had a right to that price, and they gave me the refund in cash, whispering to each other the entire time. The entire experience rubbed me the wrong way and really upset me. I would not recommend this hotel because I feel that the hotel tries to take advantage of non-Italian guests, and that is not fair or good hospitality.
Remember I'm reviewing a FOUR star hotel (this should be excellent even off season). We were there at the beginning of March. We immediately got an upgrade to a larger room (+) There were so few rooms rented that we got breakfast in bed. This was indeed a nice touch (++) Had beautiful morning sun through patio doors (+++) Asked for rice milk at breakfast when booking via the internet... and got it! (++++) Nice mountain view. Bed was great. Now for the minuses. No sea views available (let's be frank, we're on holiday by the sea so we can see the sea, right?). The desk staff didn't have local maps available (odd?). The bathroom door locked itself (?) as it was slid shut and needed repairing. On closer inspection the lock had obviously been chewed up by this occurring regularly (replace lock perhaps?) The pool wasn't yet ready to use - green slime and leaf soup when we arrived, half done when we left. I didn't ask about the other 'attractions' which were supposed to be on offer - sauna, massage, gym etc.
My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights in total last September. The hotel is set back approximately 150 meters from the sea front therefore the views from the rooms or terraces are not great. That said for an Italian beach resort the rooms are better than you would expect with very comfortable beds and an excellent shower. For the first 4 nights of our stay we stayed in one of the more basic rooms in the second block but for the last three we stayed in a superior room in the main block and I believe that the superior room was well worth the additional charge. The pool is quite small but it is one of the few hotels in Sperlonga with a pool. The hotel's private section of beach was a good walk away and though there were mini van transfers available we preferred to walk as it was a very pleasant one along a lovely beach with powder soft sand. The gym was also small and one or two of the machines were out of action. I enjoyed the breakfast selection, continental in style. I found the staff both friendly and helpful. We were originally due to spend 4 nights here and 4 nights in Terracina but on arriving in Terracina it quickly became apparent that the hotel was simply awful therefore we had to leave ASAP. We rang the Virgilio and the reception staff immediately arranged alternative accommodation back with them, in the superior room. It saved our holiday as if we had had to spend the remainder of it in that hotel in Terracina it would have been ruined. Wishing to return to Sperlonga again I decided one day to visit other hotels in the town and check out their facilities and bedrooms, most had much inferior rooms and facilities on offer. I will certainly return and ensure that I stay in a superior room.
We were here summer of last year. It's a relaxing and peaceful place. Walking distance to the beach. There is a pool outside if you prefer to stay in the hotel. They have a bar but the guy doesn't know how to make drinks, we ended up just drinking bottles of wines. The staffs are very helpful though in general. Breakfast is also nice. To sum all up, we enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel. I would definitely recommend this place.
Sperlonga is the small city which located on the coast with blue flag. Hotel locates approximately 300-400 m to beach, it is not far from, only 5 minutes, near the hotel there are many shops, where we bought water and fruits. The breakfasts are ok, with different type of cheeses, meat and fruits. Room clear, everyday was cleaning. So, I can say good hotel, one minus - bad internet, only on the reception.
We had 4 nights here and were very happy with the family room. View to the pool and balcony toward mountains. The room was clean, spacious and a very good shower. The overall hotel was very tidy and staff helpful and friendly. The pool was a bit cold as un heated and we found the sea was much warmer even in mid October, 23c and perfect for swimming, a heated pool would be a real pull for the hotel. The breakfast was excellent, one of the best we have had in Italy where typically the offering is generally rather limited. Nice variety of warm and cold savory items and delicious variety of pastries. The location is a few minutes walk from the fantastic sandy beach where we swam everyday and a variety of restaurants and cafes. It was also in close walking distance "with a climb" to the idillic old town. Will use again if visiting Sperlonga some time.
