Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort - All Inclusive4.0 out of 5.0

It was the last hotel drop by the coach and definitely the best one, a very large open reception area with polite staff, from the first minute we were impressed by the hotel. The rooms have been recently upgraded and are very good, coffee making facilities would be good, but the rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard. The numerous pool areas cleaned daily and are nice comfortable areas, not sure you'd get a sunbed at the height of the season though. The hotel is perfectly placed for views over the sea and neighbouring islands, very impressive at night. The various restaurants served, I thought a great selection of different foods, I especially enjoyed the Mexican restaurant, everything fresh and a good selection for breakfast. I think I would go back as everything you could want was catered for. Just a note to Jet2, congrats, everything was on time and I like the checking you luggage in at the hotel.
We had been to this resort once before and liked it. We wondered if the second visit would live up to the first visit. It did. I emailed the Hotel asking for a similar room. No promises but they would do their best. We were allocated virtually the same room (C Block on level 2) which had a superb sea view and there were some treats from the Hotel in the room to recognise we were a repeat visitor. The room was quiet with no disturbance from other guests. We did not upgrade to Royal Elite although it was offered. We did not feel we were disadvantaged although those who had paid the extra for RE clearly liked the benefits but then they were paying quite a bit more. Even better, the 'standard' rooms had been refurbished (and they were good before) to a high standard. We also felt that the all inclusive food was of a higher standard and the drinks were fine. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Only issue was the reserving of beds around the pool. You were not supposed to reserve before 0900 but this was not being enforced by the Hotel. Having said that there was never a shortage of beds but the ‘best’ places were usually reserved by 0830. The hotel is big but as it is over many levels and a large area it doesn’t feel big. However it can mean a lot of walking around the site which we liked as it helped reduce the all inclusive calorie intake! Whilst it is called a beach resort there is not a sandy beach outside the hotel. You have to walk over the hill to the Papagayo beaches (maybe 20 minutes or so) or along the promenade for quite a way to get to a sandy beach. The walk along the traffic free promenade to Playa Blanca centre can take up to an hour. We liked it but some customers we spoke to seemed to think it made the place ‘remote’. It suited us just fine. There was a Hotel shuttle bus and taxis were easily available for those not inclined to walk.
This was a strange visit at jet2 booked us here for the night after a cancelled flight. The hotel is absolutely huge. To be honest, a bit too big. That may be just a personal preference. It was easy to get lost and I missed the personal connection with staff and other holiday makers. Again that is something I like so a personal preference. Food was ok and the all inclusive facilities were easily accessed. I wouldn't book here by choice and the only reasons are the size of the resort and this for me felt like a conveyor belt. However, rooms were modern and clean, Wi-Fi was good and breakfast provided choice.
This was our fourth time at this hotel. Having stayed at other hotels in the area we decided to return to Sandos. There have been some significant changes to the last time we were here, mostly positive. The rooms have been refurbished and are now very clean, contemporary and much brighter. There have been improvements to the chill out bar and some of the entertainment was really good, particularly one of the female singers. The dining area has been refurbished too with modern fittings and a fresh look. However, there seemed to be less space to move around in. There are also some changes to the pool areas with regards to the reserving of sun beds. On the first day, my wife and I rocked up in the adults area just after 9am and settled on two sunbeds. However a few moments later a French family started to shout at us accusing us of stealing their beds that they had already put their towels on. As it turns out, we found out that the lifeguard removes towels from sunbeds if they are unattended before 9am. I think that this is a great idea and stops people from reserving beds too early. What this does not do is make it clear to the offenders what has happened. I think that it would be a good idea if the lifeguard left a note with the owners of the removed towels telling them why their towels were removed. This would diffuse any international disputes. I truly hope that the hotel considers this suggestion. I also was disappointed to find that there was no water in our room on our arrival. This used to be the case. Other than that, we had a super holiday, the staff were great and we will probably be back. Would be nice to have some recognition for repeat customers too.
On Arrival the desk staff were very helpful, but then you are left to find your own room a porter would be a good idea. We had 2 rooms next door to each other which was great as we could keep an eye on the kids. The rooms look as if they have just been updated. One thing i did not like was the water dispensers. people were filling their water bottles not very hygienic.Food there was a good selection. we upgraded for the last 3 day to Royal Elite for 15€ each per day which gives you access to a seperate restaurant and two lounges one adult only and one for families. The evening entertainent could have been better but since we upgraded we stayed in the elite lounge. Would definately go back as the hotel was spotless, staff very friendly and a great hotel to just chill out in. With a few little tweeks this hotel could be fantastic.

Just returned from this hotel on the 13th October. The desk staff are lovely and very helpful, but for your first time I do think there should be porters to take you to your room as the hotel is huge and will take you a few days to get your bearings and also to be advised if you are a late arriver to be advised that there is a small eating area near the adult section where you can have something to eat till breakfast. The entrance area to the hotel is amazing with it's three floors that offer seating and tranquillity if required. We upgraded to Elite and the rooms are beautiful and very clean as is all of the hotel. The elite restaurant is lovely to dine in and very tranquil. The food is lovely but I do feel that they should upgrade the facilities for keeping the food hot as the food seemed to be just warm and in turn warm food sitting for a long time can be open to bacteria, in saying that the quality and choice of good was very good and full of flavour. We loved the adult area including the pool and jacuzzi. All in all we really enjoyed a very restful and lovely holiday. We would both recommend this hotel and although a huge hotel uou do not feel over faced with people. The marina is fabulous and is only ten minutes away and coaches are provided by the hotel. Well worth a visit. The weather was in the thirties but a nice breeze accompanied it. Lovely staff right down to the cleaning ladies. We will be returning
The restaurant has alternate Chinese and Mexican nights. We tried the Chinese on our first visit in January and commented in our Sandos Papagayo review confirming we would try the Mexican night during our September visit. Food was excellent and we enjoyed the Tacos amongst a variety of other dishes. To enhance the experience it would be great if the restaurant dressed for each theme night as this is lacking, branding around the restaurant, waiters in Chines/Mexican dress, the on site photography team visiting to take pictures to be purchased as a keepsake of your visit, this would really add to the evenings. Aside from that we have a lovely evening with friends and look forward to visiting again in May 2018 when we return.
We have just returned from such a beautiful honeymoon at the Sandos Papagayo, and I only wish we could have stayed for two weeks as opposed to one! The hotel is absolutely beautiful inside, with large, super clean modern rooms. We upgraded to a junior suite, which was lovely because it had a terrace complete with amazing views over the ocean towards Fueteventura. We decided to go for the Royal Elite package, which is worth every penny. We loved being able to have breakfast and dinner in the special dining room, plus you are able to drink in the Royal Elite lounges which were well stocked with good quality branded drinks which you could help yourself to. We were also treated to a lovely bottle of cava on ice for our arrival. The staff around the hotel are all really pleasant and helpful, they couldn't do enough for us. We loved every second and would definitely return!
I first visited this hotel in August 2016 as an anniversary gift from my daughters! What a beautiful surprise. The girls requested a beach view room which isn't always guaranteed if not a Royal Elite guest. Our room welcome included a letter of congratulations (which was for me getting on a plane after ten years of not flying!) and a very welcoming bottle of bubbles on ice with a lovely aloe bathroom gift set. The room was clean and the fridge stocked with cold soft drinks and water. The room also comes with tea making facilities and of course air con! As my daughters had been to this hotel previously exploring was pretty easy with two tour guides. Several pools one of which is adult only. A 24 hour snack bar. Handy for late night toasties and pancake hour in the afternoons, and a rule of no towels on beds around pools before a certain time. Please be warned the pool staff do remove them if you put them down too early. Second visit we returned in October 2016 as Royal Elite guests. This gives you access to RE bars and restaurants. The RE restaurant is still help yourself all inclusive buffet style but wine and drinks etc are served to you at your table. Weather wasn't great we did get a couple of days heavy rain. But we're British and nothing stops us enjoying ourselves. The daily entertainment was quickly changed to indoor activities, children and adults were kept busy competing for the all important winners certificate and of course the bottle of bubbly. So our third holiday here in a year brings me to August 2017. What a warm welcome when we walked into reception. Again we returned as Royal Elite guests just for the added extras, had we not been able to book RE we would of happily returned as standard booking. Again as a birthday surprise we had the very welcome bottle on ice waiting in our room and the complimentary bath robes and slippers. Standard and Royal Elite restaurants are clean, well stocked with an array of food to suit every dietary choice. The entertainment team work morning to night. From walks along the coast to aqua gym and pool games for all ages to the shows in the theatre at night. Worth keeping an eye on the entertainment board you might be watching the Lion King or taking part in a music quiz. The hotel and pool areas are clean and tidy. The grounds are well maintained and most rooms have lovely views from their balconies. You can do as much or little as you like. Plenty for all ages. Take a walk to the local market and marina. Enjoy cocktails overlooking the marina. Feast on tapas. Catch the courtesy bus to town. Or sail on a catamaran to the island or Lobos. Ride camels. BBQ at a volcano. Diving to the underwater museum. If you don't want to visit the shopping centre, or marina with its many shops and market. Venture out of the front of hotel and visit the local shops, there is a supermarket, gift shops, a pub and restaurant, wine bar or if you're feeling adventurous hire a bike. A long review but we have covered 3 holidays and this doesn't cover it all. I've left some surprises for you.
