Just home from spending 7 nights in the Costa Mar. We stayed self-catering, apartments were spotless with a lovely porch at the front. Apartments have everything you need including forks, knives, kettle, microwave and pots/pans. The pool was only a very short walk from the apartment. We had 2 children aged 9 and 11 with us and they spent most of their day in the pool. It was clean and modern with plenty of sun loungers. The lifeguard was great craic, all the kids loved him. His walk reminded me of Jim Carey. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. It's in a great location!! 10 mins left brings you to Matagorda and 20 mins walk to the left brings you to Newtown. There's a lovely shop you can rent bikes from at the front for a reasonable price. Whilst in Lanzarote we did the Short South tour (camel ride optional), interacted with sealions in Rancho Texas and cycled a 4 seater bike to Matagorda. Not forgetting the beach is directly across the road. All in all we had a great holiday in the Costa Mar and we're looking forward to coming back next year. Came home to rain and wind in Ireland today, wishing I had booked an extra couple of nights!
Simple but good appartment. Friendly staff, of you need something or there is something wrong they help you right away. Rooms are clean and the supermarket is right around the corner. The same for the beach, just cross the street
I have to say after reading some of the reviews I was a little worried about our stay here. Well I needn't have worried at all and I was very pleased with my choice. We booked a one bed apartment for us and our 5 year old which would have done us just fine, but when we arrived in our apartment I was very pleased to discover we had been given a large two bed, it was very clean and had plenty of wardrobe space, hangers and a large balcony overlooking the pool and beach. The pool area was always very clean and it's the only place I've ever stayed where there are always sun loungers available. The pool was a good temperature, I swam in it most days and our 5 year old loved it. We stayed self catering and didn't eat in the restaurant there so I can not comment on the food - there are so many wonderful restaurants to go to locally, either just outside hotel or down in Puerto del Carmen or up the other way, there are so many to choose from and we had lots of fabulous dinners and lunches. There is a big Spar shop right by the hotel which stocks everything you will need. We were given plenty of towels which were changed every other day. We did have a maid service everyday which we weren't expecting, they check you've enough toilet roll and shut your curtains to keep it cool, make the beds etc. Staff really friendly. We had an electric hob in our kitchen bit and one morning I went to make scrambled egg on it but it didn't get hot enough so I ended up sticking it in the microwave- that's my only niggle with it, but really didn't worry us after all I didn't go on holiday to cook. Beach nice but it is that blackish sand so we paid for sun beds which cost €12 for 2 for the day. Sea nice to swim in and not too cold. The hotel is so close to airport we got a taxi pleased we did as the holiday company wanted £48 for transfers. The taxi from airport cost €12 and €11 on way back. A trip to Ranchos Park - well worth it! We did the day and they have a lovely zoo with very well cared for animals in pretty surroundings, dolphin show, sea lion show, bird display and swimming pool and water slides all included in price a great day out and only €3 in a taxi to get there.
Stayed in the apartments over Easter on a full board basic as price not a lot more than just b&b. Apartment we had was basic but had everything we needed . We were in block H which was away from the main building and we overlooked he beach. had 2 balconies back and front of apartment so always had sun. Food was buffet each morning and evening. the food was very good and lots of choice. Apartment was close to bars and restaurants but far enough away to be very peaceful. Very nice place and very good value for money for half board. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Pool small ish for amount of apartments but very large beach 2 min walk away.
Excellent location for a relaxing holiday. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Got sea view as requested. Apartment was one bedroom and really spacious. Spotless and comfortable, with cleaning six days a week. Two minutes to nearest shop (Spar) and bars/restaurants. Lovely beach and uninterrupted walk along the prom for miles. Highly recommend. Will be back :)
Stayed here for a week in may. Stunning views..very large apartments with private sun terrace. All reception staff very helpful and cheery. Cleaners in 6 out of 7 days, apartments kept spotless. Beach 100 yards away with a spar shop. Everything you need for a great holiday. Would definitely come back!
For a relatively late booking we chose extremely well. Costa Mar was just what we wanted. We chose it because of its location, away from the busy Puerto del Carmen centre. It was quiet and peaceful. No noise at night. A little noise from the pool entertainment during parts of the day but I appreciate some people like this so the hotel must cater for all. We were out during the daytime so it didn't bother us anyway. The pool was meticulously cleaned every morning so for those that like the poolside scene I would recommend it. From about 6:00 in the evening the hotel was a quiet and relaxing place to be, especially if, like us, you are lucky enough to have a roof terrace. A wonderful place to catch the evening sun, which is still very warm (in April anyway) and watch the sun setting over the mountains. Also noted that there were no mossies, which was great because I'm normally a mossie-magnet! The apartment was perfect for us. Spacious, light and airy. A separate bedroom with huge built-in wardrobes, private bathroom with shower over bath and a large kitchen/living room. Also, steps outside that led up to a huge roof terrace with spectacular 360°view of the beach to the front and the mountains to the rear. Table and chairs and two sunloungers were provided on the terrace. There was also a clothes airer. The seating area inside consisted of an arm chair and large sofa (big enough to sleep on) There was also a coffee table, another occasional table, a dining table with 4 chairs, a bookcase and a TV shelf. The TV was a decent size and we were able to get satellite channels in English. The kitchen area had quite a lot of cupboard space, a kettle, toaster, two-ring hob and microwave. Only one power point in this area though. As some have mentioned, the furniture is a little dated but it is all functional. Nothing was broken and for the price you pay you shouldn't expect top-notch furnishings. If you want luxury apartments you should go elsewhere and pay luxury prices! Again, as some reviews have mentioned there is no air-conditioning but we just opened all the windows and as there was no mossies, this worked well for us as there is nearly always a breeze in Lanzarote. Costa Mar is clean, friendly and relaxing, a little basic for some tastes maybe, but a fantastic place to use as a base for exploring the island. The reception staff here are very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. You can make what you want out of your stay here. As for choice of rooms if you are given a choice; if you have any mobility issues or maybe a young family you will want a ground floor room as anything else will require many steps! Blocks D, E, F and G are closest to the pool, reception and the restaurant/bar. We were in block E but on the top floor. Great views and far enough away from the noise but many, many steps so you need to be fit! Blocks H and I would be fairly quiet too as they are furthest away from the pool and restaurant but, as with all the blocks, you will have no privacy on the ground floor as people walking by can see right into your terrace. We didn't try the restaurant so can't comment on it. There is a large Spar shop in front of the hotel which sells most things self-catering guests will need including alcohol and cigarettes at competitive prices. There are also many car hire places and plenty of on street parking. You can also rent bicycles. There are a handful of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Our favourite was Sol y Mar which is on the seafront. Good food and a very jovial host! A 10/15 minute walk towards the airport and you will find many more. In the other direction you can walk into the main tourist area of Puerto del Carmen in less than 30 minutes (or get a taxi). Here you will find a vast array of bars and restaurants to suit every taste. In short, a great stay at a very reasonable price and we will definitely return.
We stayed at the Costa Mar for a week and wasn't disappointed. Great value apartment and venue. Good size apartment, cleaned regular and great room staff very friendly and always smiling. We just had the apartment and fended for ourselves but if you went all in they had plenty of facilities. General very clean all around and pool cleaned on a daily basis. I would really recommend this place to anyone.
The apartment had plenty of room, and was clean. My little one loved the poolside entertainment and there was always plenty of sunbeds. All the staff were friendly and helpful, thank you Costa Mar for a great holiday. There is a local Spar straight across from the hotel which is great and reasonably priced.
We stayed in a 2 bed apartment for 10 nights over Easter 2017. It was on the ground floor at the children's playground. A perfect location for us. The apartment was basic but comfortable. We had 4 single beds and a sofa bed. All comfortable! The apartment was cleaned most days. Floor was swept, sink cleaned, not much else. Plenty of clean towels and beds changed once a week (fairly typical). Cleaners were friendly and great with the kids. Reception staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Pool staff were great. Kids club (arts and crafts), aqua aerobics, riffle shooting and kids disco. All carried out with great enthusiasm and very friendly. They kept a close eye on kids in the pool and reminded kids not to be too boisterous. Pool was cold, very cold!! Might be warmer later in the season. Kids were shaking from the cold after 15/20 mins. We stayed half board and regretted that decision. Food was poor. Kids struggled to find something palatable for dinner. They had chips most nights and little else. They are fussy eaters though. The location was great. Spar shop almost on site, beach across the road, bike hire at the front door, lots of restaurants, shops etc a short walk away. Not sure about nightlife. We have 3 smallies so going out wasn't an option :)
