Had a pleasant return visit last weekend.Food has improved but please serve food on a hot plate which keeps your meal hot for longer. Staff very pleasant room clean and very warm. Very central for touring.
A Sunday night saver. We booked triple room and family room. They were great. Plenty space. Food was also great and couldn't fault the staff. We were in room 11 and 16 both very good . Don't know about other rooms but will definitely return for a longer stay.
nice hotel needs a bit of upgrading, good food and friendly staff, swimming pool needs a facelift paint falling of walls and ceiling, our room looked into walls? also wee were above boiler house, thank god it was 1 night only and the weather was good
The first thing I just can’t say enough about with this place is just how friendly, helpful, customer focussed and all round greatness the staff are. Through a work mix-up I arrived a day early and there were no spare rooms. In no time they sorted me out accommodation at a nearby hotel and I was on my way and returned the following day for my week long stay. Restaurant serves great food, but not all things that are shown on the online menu, which was a shame. Breakfast is nothing short of just what you want, and the morning staff – awesome!! However, after tow evening meals I opted to eat out. The food was great but sitting alone in a restaurant for 40 minutes waiting for a burger to turn up twice, I personally found frustrating, so an 8 minute drive to McD’s meant that from leaving my room to returning with food was under 25 minutes and that was a win-win. The room seamed “tired” but as I was there for work I just tend to get on with what I’m doing.
Arrived at the hotel just as the bride was arriving, the hotel are doing Sunday to Thursday deals until next March, had I known about the wedding I would not have went as we felt like intruders the hotel does not have that many rooms and the majority were taken up with the wedding guests hence we were put in a room that I have no words to describe it was like something out of the 1970's old chipped furniture stained carpet, the only saving grace was the bed was clean although creaked every time you moved. Have stayed in this hotel in previous occasions and have never had a room like this so if you are thinking of booking make sure you don't have room 24. I will not return until this hotel has had a full refurbishment as it is in dire need. A shame because the food was very good. Also noise from the wedding until 12 o'clock so much for a quiet break.
Visited the restaurant of The Popinjay this afternoon, having booked a table for eleven family members aged from 12 years to 84 years, to celebrate the 60th Wedding anniversary of my father and mother-in-law. I hadn't been at The Popinjay for a number of years and decided to take a chance. Always highly recommended for weddings, Christmas functions, School Proms, but hardly anyone ever reviews the Restaurant........well here goes.... The staff are fantastic, helpful, polite, chatty, and eager to help and please. The food is sensational, well presented and delicious. All had 3 courses, drinks and were well served and attended to by Mel, Amanda, Richard and Rebecca, who I can't praise enough, for the way they made the afternoon even more special. Table was booked for 1pm and all left the restaurant extremely happy at 4.30pm without being rushed, and having had the same quality of service and attention throughout the afternoon. The Restaurant should be praised more often as this would be beneficial to the hotel and it would be used by a bigger clientele ... and the hotel not only used by residents, and for the list of events and functions at the start of my review. 11 out of 10 from me
I stayed here for the first time last night. The hotel is easy to find and about 5 mins from the M74 junction. It has a hood sized car park. Check in was pleasant and my room was lovely, good sized and a very comfortable 4 poster bed. There was plenty of work and storage space and also spare power sockets. The bathroom was compact but had everything i needed. The water took a long time to warm up, maybe 5 minutes, but that gave me time to drink a cuppa. Room service was good, decent size portion and good value. Breakfast was excellent, a very good helping of salmon and scrambled egg as well as the usual options. The gym was good too - a cardio room and a weights room with plenty of equipment and a good mix of activities. I would have liked to try the Spa but it had closed early. The only downside was the internet speed- i was in room 6 and there was a Zyxel access point just down the corridor but the speed was so slow it was almost unusable. Other than that, everything was very impressive, especially considering the bargain price and I will certainly be back.
Staying for one night only following a working mid week stop over. Staff were friendly and we were checked in quickly. The room was functional at best. Decor is very dated and generally needing a modern refresh. I couldn't get the two bedside lights to work which may be an issue for the more elderly, having instead to turn off the main lights and rely on the TV illumination to make my way back to the bed. However the bed was clean and comfortable and the room remained quiet throughout the night. Evening meal and breakfast was ok. This was however badly let down back the lack of attentiveness by the evening and morning staff. For the evening meal we ordered main and desert (to save time) however had to wait for our plates to be cleared for some time and unfortunately ask for our deserts. The cheesecake was very small and lacked the ice cream that I had ordered. Same issue with request for ketchup (this was simply forgotten). Same issues for breakfast, toast was missed altogether despite ordering and request for ketchup delivered late. Overall we paid to sleep comfortably which we did however the food and general service is lacking. My advice would be to eat elsewhere. I would stay again (for work purposes) however I would not consider for pleasure.
