We spent a night recently which we had managed to only source and book through Expedia for a function we were attending. The hotel told us hotel was full when i booked through expedia and they had major issue on why they were still selling space, although it got sorted before we arrived. We were however put up in the cottage at the main road entrance so a noisy location and a two minute walk in very badly lit road to get the main hotel. If you are staying more than one night would recommend against it. Badly in need of updating as it looks like a throwback to early 80s. Could be nice if money spent on it. Meal was just about ok as was breakfast but staff seemed a bit all over the place and disorganised. Short of table space if most people turn up for breakfast at same time and overspilled into the bar, it can akso take an hour or so to get the hot breakfast order.Staff we did speak to at reception pleasant enough. Overall probably not value for money at around the £120 mark through expedia, believe it is nearer £90 if you can book direct but still i would still feel over charged. At best a 2-3 star.
Hotel is in a delightful setting with a fair bit of history connected to it, all the staff were very helpful from check-in to checkout, the room was spotless and really comfortable and quiet, a good nights sleep and a very good breakfast in the morning, I would definitely stay at this hotel again
We visited the hotel for 5 days in mid-March in cold weather. We were given a friendly welcome and were greeted by a cosy log fire in the reception area. The room was spacious and well appointed. It was located in wooded grounds which would have been nice to explore in warmer weather. It was also well away from the road so very quiet and peaceful. But not too far from Lanark. When we were there it was very quiet and only bar meals were available, the restaurant was not in available. The breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked to order with local produce. We enjoyed our stay with come again when we are in the area.
Stayed for one night on family business. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and a peaceful situation. It seems to be perfect example of what Best Western s so good at- buying up old properties then spending the minimum of cash on 'improvements', to end up with a piece of faded gentrified usually country living. Staff we met were all perfectly pleasant and helpful. We had a drink in the bar however and were shocked by the lack of housekeeping- the shelves and surfaces around the bar were covered in dust thick enough we could write in it. It doesnt take much to push a damp cloth around but it left us feeling distinctly 'off'. Our room was comfortable enough but the large bathroom was freezing cold, cold enough to put us off having showers. The bed was comfortable, cosy and there were plenty of pillows. Breakfast however was a shambles. It was off season so the dining room wasnt too busy. From ordering our cooked breakfasts it took an hour to arrive and we all received the wrong order. I had to ask 3 times for toast then butter. While we were still waiting ( about 45 mins after ordering), a waiter came us an asked us " And is there anything else we can get for you this morning?" To which I replied " Yes please, our breakfasts". They arrived shortly after that and had obviously been sitting around under a hot plate for a while as it was all congealed on the plate. I think they may have just forgotten to bring it out to us. Sorry, not impressed. Perhaps we were just unlucky.
We had our daughters wedding reception last weekend at this lovely hotel. It was a wonderful day. The staff were fantastic, from the delicious canapés served on arrival to the excellent meal and the room was decorated beautifully! The buffet was served during the evening and rolls wee hot and tasty. Danielle and her team made sure each of our guests were welcomed and were particularly helpful with less mobile guests getting around. The big fireplace is a spectacular sight with plenty space for everyone. Many guests commented on gorgeous surroundings and we even managed a few photos outside despite the weather. Lots of guests stayed over and rooms were spotless, warm and welcoming. The breakfast was great with plenty choice of hot options to suit all. Thanks so much for all your help making our day fantastic!
Went for a bite to eat on Monday night went in after 7 had our main meal. Was going to have a sweet asked the waitress for menu it was just after nine to be told chef was away home. The hotel is local to us and we thought we would give it a try as the management supposed to have changed. We won't be back.
Returned to Cartland Bridge again for the Hogmanay evening. Fantastic. Staff really worked their "sock's off" to make it a great night for everyone attending. Meal was excellent, and each course served whilst very hot. Entertainment on the night was simply great. We have returned year on year for some time now, and will continue to do so while the hotel and staff delivers on the service, food quality, and entertainment provided to date. Well done the hotel and staff. Very much appreciated.
As a native of Lanark l know the Cartlad bridge hotel very well. I’ve seen it through the years at it’s very worst and know this because l worked in it at the time as a teenager. I’ve seen it at it’s very best over the last few years including a very large family reunion that took place there in August 2017 with family from Canada. My husband and l had lunch in there as a spur of moment decision today and we’re thrilled we did. The waiting staff were excellent, the lady on reception was pleasant and courteous. The star of the show was the head chef who came up to the bar to check if we were happy with our meal and to pass the time of day. Having traveled all over the world in my 46 years this is only the 2nd time a head chef has wandered through to have a chat. The meal was beautiful, cannot fault it, good wholesome food excellently cooked and hot! The chef himself stood and spoke to us for around 10 minutes, he was pleasant, funny and credit to the hotel. The Cartland Bridge would do well to keep him!
The food was lovely on Christmas day but that's all that can be said as service was shocking no management or supervisors to be seen. Dirty plates left on our table throughout the duration of our 4 course meal. Well I should say 3 courses as we never received our intermediate course which I believe was sorbet. I have emailed the company on hope of some response. Ruined a special day with family that a family member had paid £400 for us all. Let's hope his wedding there this year runs better than Christmas day!
Took my family for Xmas dinner at £55.00 per head and we arrived at 3pm and the waiter Took our drinks order which he was a nervous wreck ! Then a waitress took our starters which most off was soup of the day then nightmare it came freezing cold I pointed this out and not even apology ! We finished our starters then Waited a further 28 mins to get starters plates removed ! The turkey was tough the potatoes were brick hard the gravey was poor! Then it came to the deserts my youngest aged 8 Asked if he could have treacle pudding and pouring cream oops sorry no pouring cream we have ran out joke! I asked for a coffee please Then oops I’ve just poured extra coffee on your leg without a Sorry I got off my seat then Duty manager Becky said sorry we are under staffed and I’ll talk too you later the guy at the bar was so bored he hung over the bar ! Please stay clear as the emails I’ve received are a joke and don’t waste your money on this circus ! All run by clowns !!!
