We made the trip from Orlando to find the Rodeo as we wanted to experience something different. It took about 3 hours to get there but it was so worth it. We spend the whole day on the ranch trying out the food and activities. There was lots to do even a small petting zoo, zip wire, fishing, a saloon bar, in the evening the place comes alive with the rodeo. We all throughly enjoyed it and we cannot recommend a visit highly enough.
I took my wife here for her first time abroad from England and it was fantastic. We stayed for nine days and had no need to venture elsewhere. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. The amenities on site were fantastic, and all activities were endless fun. This is a must for anyone into cowboy/westerns or the American country life. The swamp, river marina and gators are a added bonus. The Saturday night Rodeo is a must see. The staff running activities were all brilliant and our shooting instructor was awesome he had us shooting like rangers in no time. We both had a whale of a time and will recommend to everyone.
I live about 2.5 hours away and regularly ride horses. I've wanted to visit this ranch for 2 years but it's just out of my budget to stay on site as a single mom. I wanted to take my son out of town to the country for his 6th birthday so we rented a lake house in avon park (a 45 minute drive from the ranch) and chose to make the drive to the ranch for a day trip. We started with lunch at the Smokehouse Grill. I had the longhorns steak sandwich and onion rings and the onion rings with the sauce were better than the sandwich but it was all good. We had a fantastic server even though my son threw up at the table. He hadn't been feeling his best and it had nothing to do with the food. Our server was so gracious and was just fantastic. I wish I'd caught her name for a shout out. My son was feeling better so we chose to try some activities before our scheduled airboat ride. Unfortunately he was just under the height and weight restrictions for the mechanical bull and the zip line so he was disappointed. They must be 48 inches tall and 55 lbs... I rode the mechanical bull and it was fun but you need pants to avoid leather burn on your legs. I must also say that some of the staff is just flat out rude. The woman with blonde hair at the ticket counter for the rodeo/activities has NO PLACE dealing with guests at a very expensive resort! She seemed agitated at the world and hell bent on spreading the misery to everyone she encountered. On top of that nonsense instead of handing the waiver tablets to people and asking them to rejoin the line when finished, she made everyone wait behind each new guest to fill it out which was a solid 5 minutes per person. It was utterly ridiculous for those of us who had already done it and ready to purchase more tickets. She should be replaced, im sorry to say. Also, the ladies in the western store and general store seemed to hate their lives as well and should be replaced with friendly people who treat guests like guests instead of burdens. Now for the airboat ride: I do a lot of fun stuff and this was an experience ill never forget. The ladies at the marina were great as was our tour driver. We had the absolute BEST TIME! It was so cool and so much better than i imagined. Beautiful property as well. We will return someday and hope the staff is nicer. But it was definitely worth the visit!
I took my wife, son and daughter shooting today, my daughter was very nervous. Our instructor Drew was awesome! He gave my wife and I shooting tips, while teaching my kids how to shoot. He is an asset to Westgate River Ranch.
5 hours driving during our tour of Florida we had booked 4 nights to enjoy a ranch theme , and western style stop over . As soon as we checked in we found out that the only place to eat minus a deli was the smokehouse which closed at 9pm along with the small bar - saloon wasn’t open til the weekend ! Not what we wanted to hear , ok the place looks fab is immaculate and I’m certain as a family get away with your dog and a boat it’s fab . For a touring “horsey” couple it’s like a fake Disney ranch pretending... and seems like a ghost town mid week . We checked out and headed elsewhere I understand this is not a true representation, how ever with the expense and location which is remote we felt “trapped” that we couldn’t enjoy a local area but needed to stay on site , most of which was closed except for the usual airboat ride / guns etc . It was far too hot to ride the horses in mid day sun and the pool for the size of the place is tiny ... so hardly any cooling off! No patio on the lodges . And lots of bugs inside the room - the room was nice tho I was so looking forward to this stay . But don’t bother unless it’s on a weekend
If you love the outdoors and all things Rustic. This is the place for you. Great property for the outdoorsman and his family. Petting farm, animals, a rock climbing wall, a rodeo (only on the weekends) and a Saloon! There's something for the entire family if you like fishing, animals, wilderness. You're out in the middle of no where so don't expect to leave the property. Weekends are best - there's a movie on the lawn and the rodeo on Saturdays. If you can afford to stay in a Tee-Pee - DO IT!!! They are lux and nice. The cabins are more like condos, but very nice. Glamping is camping but a little more upscale than a regular tent. If that's your thing, this place is for you!
We had a great family trip over Easter weekend. We are already planning our next trip. The property is beautiful with lots of activities. There were some things I would do differently. We stayed in the "lodge" cabin and it was not impressive. They have tried to redo but bathrooms and kitchens are very dated. Clean but dingy looking in the bathroom. We will stay in the Saddlebrook cabins next time which look newer. On our next special occasion we would like to do the teepees which look beautiful. They are pricier but include all of the extras. Definitely rent a golf cart - we never got in our car again all weekend. The rodeo was so much fun - good old fashioned entertainment. And the street party afterwards was a good time. We had a great time on Friday night and my daughter loved the fact she could learn line dancing in the saloon with me. We our animal lovers so loved spending a lot of time in the petting zoo (which is free). People working at the petting zoo were very nice to my children. We also really enjoyed the airboat ride and swamp buggy - worth the money! The drivers for both were very entertaining and kind. We did have a few hiccups with the marina. There was an older lady there who really didn't seem to enjoy her job - very cranky each time we saw her. She also told us both days that the winds were too high to rent out a boat - not very high winds at all so I wouldn't count on renting a pontoon boat. There is also only one restaurant which was very good but we made sandwiches one night because we were tired of the same food - but like I said good food and nice employees. Also the general store is very stocked! Good food there also. All in all very enjoyable - like I said we are already planning our next trip!
They allow you to bring your dog, but then most of the place is off limits to dogs. I guess they expect you to leave your dog in your room for your whole stay. They are not dog friendly at all. Then charge $170 cleaning fee, plus $100 deposit. The resort is nice but very expensive as well. Leave the pups with a sitter if you plan a trip there.
overall the place was great for families with young children. a lot of activities for a weekend. no more than 2-3 days is sufficient to do mostly everything. the rodeo was the highlight and was very entertaining. only issue was charging for wifi. I think people who visit spend enough on room, food and activities that wifi should be included with your stay, otherwise visit was great for a short escape.
We did the tent camping, but I wish we would of had more info on the "glamping". The info over the phone when you are reserving was not helpful. This is one of those places that you have to go and judge for yourself. For future tent campers, its an open space of first come basis to pitch your tent. There is no electrical or water or bbqs in tent camping. The bathrooms are gross! Bathroom ratio to the amount of tents is crazy and even after they service it in 5 minutes its a complete mess. At times stalls are out of toilet paper, soap dispenser ran out you get the picture. Glamping tents are fenced off and apparently have a more private bathroom, electrical, water and bbqs. I plan on returning to glamp and the activities were great for kids and I felt reasonably priced. I called multiple times to ask if electrical, water and bbqs where available and no one steered me in the glamp direction. Besides that, I loved the overall western theme and its a very friendly atmosphere.
