Hotel Italie Et Suisse3.0 out of 5.0

Hotel Italie Suisse is officially a 3* perhaps because it is a B & B hotel? We believe it far exceeds the rating. It is beautifully situated on the lakeside, immediately across from the boat station and round the corner from the shops and restaurants. Rooms are en suite with super showers, there is a lift, everything is sparkling clean and breakfasts are generous. The family are truly professionals! This was our second visit (Last June and April 2018) and we hope to return. Room 31 is large with 4 small balconies, 2 facing the Lake and 2 the little square. There is a hair dryer, safe and ample storage. The views are magnificent. Getting there: If not driving, by air to Milan Malpensa, from there Alibus (prebook necessary, easy online) outside Terminal 2 direct to stop at boat station cost €12 single journey. Lots of parking available if by car. To do: Frequent boats to nearby Barromean Islands. Locarno (3+ hours with lunch on board) also Aliscafo service. Cannobio (Sunday market). Luino (Wednesday market) Excursions available include the Lake Maggiore Express (boat and train Centovalli), Macugnaga for Monte Rosa, Lake Orta, and Carciano for Mottarone among many others. Stresa has many eateries, we liked Bar Elena for light snacks at lunchtime, and Café Torino for dinner, necessary to book or queue for a very long time. Prices are reasonable, the food and service top notch.
The location of this hotel is perfect, directly opposite the ferries and boats to Isola Bella etc. A special price for parking is also offered, again the main car park I'd directly opposite the hotel. This family care about making sure you have a good stay. Good English is also spoken.
Just left after a full week here and very sad to leave. As previously mentioned the hotel is a bit "60's" but absolutely spotlessly clean. Fantastic location, friendly staff, nice continental breakfast and great value for money. We saw the islands, went up the cable car, had a day in Milan and a trip to see the Matterhorn. Restaurants abound and of an evening at the far end is Gigi's for your last coffee of hot chocolate for the night. We will return
We have just returned from a four night stay at Hotel Italie and Suisse in Stresa. It is nowhere near as grand as some other hotels in Stresa but it was absolutely perfect for our needs. You cannot fault the location, opposite the Lake and the Ferry terminal/ticket office, and close to bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel is quite basic, but spotlessly clean and a good continental breakfast is served. Our Lake View room, was actually a side Lake view, but it was a big room with two balconies and a huge bathroom with window, which for me was a bonus. The staff are very nice, they remember which room you are in and they waved us off when we left. Stresa is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed strolling along the Promenade and visiting the Borromean Islands which were absolutely delightful!
The staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel location is excellent, being within easy walking distance of all the attractions of Stresa. However, the whole place has a rather tired feel and would benefit from updating. Overall we had a pleasant stay at modest cost and I do not regret choosing The Italie et Suisse, but as mentioned it does need updating.
Good location and was a fair price compared to other hotels but probably due to being rather basic but it was clean. Room was in the corner so had balconies on both sides. Staff were not overly friendly and when I thought the air con was not working as it wasn't instantly cool I was not helped at all and made to feel like I shouldn't have even asked! This ruined the experience somewhat. We were attending a wedding and unaware prior to booking that the hotel infact closed at 1am with no access. I'm sure that's fine for regular stays as Stresa seemed quiet but was inconvenient for ours. Overall if you are looking for a basic, cheaper alternative this is fine but the attitude of all staff encountered would not make me stay here again and was rather annoying.
I chose this place because of its location , and its really excellent. Its exactly opposite the lake , and the ticket place from where the boats go to the bohemian islands. I was in room 64, a room right at the back of the property, which only overlooked a small alley which had nothing to see but a dead pigeon from the window. I was disappointed about that, as I had made a specific request to give me a good room. I had also requested for a kettle, which they did not give , but hot water was available at all hours. It was however, really cumbersome for me to go down everytime , to get myself a hot cup of water. The hotel, otherwise is very clean, the breakfast is good too, but mostly consisting of sweet dishes. The staff, appeared very stiff upper -lipped,at first and had that unapproachable attitude on the first day, but kind of softened up a bit on the next day. They could have advised us on the things to do, in stresa or guided us rightly , but did not do anything of the sort. The Hotel is a km.or a bit more from the station. They had only informed us on that, when asked by letter. We had to walk all of that lugging our luggage, which is tiresome on a hot sunny day after train travel.,at our age. on the day of checking out we asked if he could arrange for a taxi, he said yes and asked us for 12 euro, but we found out that the charges are 9 euros. So we did not book with him.
We were happy we chose this hotel for our three night stay in Stresa, mainly because of its excellent location and friendly service by all the staff. Our room was very clean and the high ceilings helped counteract its relatively small size. We were really grateful for the excellent air conditioning since the middle of June meant hot and somewhat humid weather. The room was in the back so did not have a view, but we slept well because it was quiet. Breakfast was great!
My friend and I had a 3 night stay. The twin room was very basic but absolutely spotless. Excellent power shower. On our first night we wanted an early night due to our very early start but our room was unbearably hot. We tried the air con but it was locked. Upon ringing Reception I was told it could not be switched on until June! It was 25 May.it did however come on a little later as we found out at breakfast that some American guests had complained. Also (and not the hotel's fault) a local bar had a live singer on, so we had to endure him until 11pm. The continental breakfast was more than adequate and the hotel is in a very good location.
A family run hotel... old style I would say. Big keys that you leave at the desk and take back when you come in. A nice welcome by one of the owners who speak several languages including English and French. Clean rooms, but with old furniture. Very well garnished buffet breakfast with excellent coffee. The parking (10 E / day) and the pier are right across the street from the hotel. You can take a boat to the Borromeo Islands litteraly in front of the hotel. Everything in Stresa is less than a 10 minutes walk from this hotel including the train station. The area is busy and the street can be noisy at night. So for the service, the price, the location and the included breakfast I would recommend this hotel.
