Was very happy and surprised to have such an amazing view from our room. We didnt eat at the hotel but had an amazing stay with stunning views. A lovely break away. Not far to walk to see the Queen studio tour .
Update on my Spring review of Sinatra’s Bar, Royal Plaza Hotel After daily visits this Summer, often twice daily, things have been much smoother than in the past. Even in the hectic Jazz Festival weeks service was rapid and professional. The logistics of having only one entry/exit facilitated service flow greatly. On quiet evenings part of Sinatra’s replaces the main restaurant, and this seems to work perfectly. The food is consistently excellent, matched by the service, and the surprise appetiser canapés outstanding, perhaps unique, a true delight! In short, a very pleasant destination for a drink, a snack or a full meal. Prices commensurate with Montreux. Also frequently used for Wedding receptions, and commercial gatherings. Staff work very hard and yet make it seem effortless.
Having read previous reviews we were a little hesitant on arrival that we would not get the room we had booked and that the staff would be unhelpful - how wrong we were! The check-in staff were really helpful and this was our experience of all hotel staff throughout our stay. We had booked a deluxe lake view room and that is exactly what we were given - and what a view we had, simply stunning. The room was large, well equipped and comfortable. The hotel facilities were great although we chose not to eat at the hotel. Montreux is a great location and well connected to other parts of Switzerland via the trains. We visited Gstaad on the Golden Pass and the scenery was spectacular. The boat trips on the lake are also worth a go. We will definitely return!
Facing the amps at the music festival (not the hotel's fault, but caveat emptor!), my room vibrated with ear-splitting hip-hop disco until 0230, so loud that I could not use the television. Understandably, the hotel was full and they could not move me in the middle of the night. BUT they refused to move me in the morning when people were checking out, totally unacceptable. I was rescued by my tour director who intervened with management and eventually got my room reassigned in the afternoon.
I recently stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour. When we were shown to our room, I couldn't believe our spectacular view of the lake. I didn't want to leave the window. The room was large. The hotel pool was extremely nice and when I used it I was the only swimmer. It is a very nice sized for a hotel indoor pool and the pool temperature was fine for lap swimming. The pool hours were decent also. The staff was very friendly. Our meals were part of the group, but I found them very nice. We were there while the Jazz Fest was going on next day and part of the venue is outside so one does have to accept that during this time period there will be some music spilling into the rooms. As in most Swiss hotels, one does need to bring a Swiss adapter which is different than those that work in other European countries. The hotel may offer them, but we had our own. We very much enjoyed our short stay at this hotel
In June we stayed at this hotel for the eighth time since 2004, spending six nights here just before the Jazz Festival started. Our deluxe room on the fifth floor gave us the most spectacular views of Lake Geneva. Our room was ready when we arrived (2.45 pm), and he reception staff were very friendly and helpful, even issuing our tickets for the lake steamers to save us from queuing at the quayside office. Breakfast was quite good, but it would be nice if it could be varied slightly (maybe fried eggs on some mornings?). I can hardly believe we stayed at the same hotel as some other recent reviewers. Yes, some of the carpets have seen better days, but I noticed that the room next to ours was being renovated during our stay; in a functioning hotel in the middle of summer, updating rooms one or two at a time makes sense. We always book directly with the hotel and treat all the staff with respect, and we have always been made welcome. We hope to return to the Plaza next June.
So this is my first review on TripAdvisor ever and usually i am too lazy to write a review good or bad. but for this hotel i was motivated to write one and its unfortunate my first review is a bad one. the service at this hotel sux so bad it is scary. the gal at the front desk who checked me in was sullen. didn't give me the room i had booked, i had to come back down and even then not a word of apology. was told the room type (overlooking the lake) is not available. huh? so refund my money. nope can't do that because of some cockamamie story about the rate now being high. gave that fight up. later went to the bard for a drink. another sullen face. waited to see if they would seat us, didn't seem to care so we went and sat down and this fellow came and told us that table was reserved. huh? no sign nothing. anyway went and sat on another table and it literally took them 15 minutes to get us served drinks, and there were just three of us. and the final straw - when we checked out they charged me for things out of the minibars we had never consumed. now - we did have some things from the bar but not all the things they had listed but when i told them that, the lady literally sneered at me. wow. any by the way this hotel seems like it was built in 1960 and no renovations were done after that.
We had a lovely time in Montreux and the Plaza is a very lovely place to stay. It doesn't look much from the outside, but it is a lot nicer once you're in and is one of the few hotels in Montreux that is right on the lakeside, so you can swim (recommended) in the lake and walk straight back in for a shower. The facilities are nice, lovely bar and restaurant and seating areas. Some of the decor could do with being updated but this didn't bother us, it's kept very clean so that's ok. The pool is not heated i think and it's very chilly, not sure why this is. The reason for my 2 star review was the poor service we experienced at the Royal Plaza. We booked our stay 4 months in advance, staying 5 nights on our honeymoon. We arrived at 12pm to check in but were told to come back at 3 (fair enough). Came back at 3 and we were told the room wasn't ready yet, so they said they'd give us a different room of the same standard. When we went to the room we found it was not facing the lake but facing out to the side with a partial lake view. We went back down and said we were not happy as we had booked a lake view room (we did ask them in our booking to please consider we would be on honeymoon and give us a nice room) we had to wait a further 30 minutes but were then given a lake view room (which was stunning). The only problem was it was a twin bed room and not a double. We decided to say nothing but on the second night we did ring up reception and told them that we weren't happy. An arguement then proceeded with the management taking the attitude "we already changed your room once and you're still not happy?" They told is it was nothing to do with them and we should contact Expedia who we made the booking through. At least we received a sympathetic voice when we rang Expedia who apologised and rang the hotel and spoke to a man named Patrick (if i remember correctly) on our behalf. The hotel management did say they could put double sheets over our beds to "convert" it into a double, but no apology was made, no attempt to admit responsibility, no understanding shown as to why a couple on honeymoon would want a double bed and not twin beds and no offer to provide us with what we paid (quite a lot) for. Put bluntly, they could not have cared less! Gone it seems are the days when a 5 star hotel would welcome a honeymooning couple and make them feel special, but we did at least expect to get what we paid for four months in advance! The hotel's attitude to us upset us both and my wife was spoken to in a very rude manner. The desk staff all seemed very young and inexperienced and basically not very interested. You only get to go on honeymoon once in life (hopefully!) and I wanted ours to be special, but we were badly let down by the Royal Plaza and it certainly tainted the otherwise happy memories we will take from our stay on Lake Geneva.
Stayed here in early june. The property is tired. The furniture and fittings seem like they should have been changed a decade ago. The service isn't great even by the low Swiss standards for hotel service. Asked for extra towels and it somehow became a huge issue. I was quite shocked. The Maitre'D in the bar downstairs thinks he is the Messiah himself. He was arrogant and unhelpful - regretted grabbing a drink there. and the breakfast, while it has all the basic stuff, is quite ordinary. The hotel and services are worth about one third of what they charge. Calling this property 5 star is really just a joke. i probably was a 5 star once upon a time, no longer.
We had three nights at the hotel during the Jazz festival. The room was lovely and beautifully cool. Very clean and well designed. The breakfast was high quality and plenty of choice. We ate in Sinatras bar twice and found it to be a lovely place to dine. Good selection of meals and all well presented We enjoyed sitting in the outdoor area at night with a glass of wine. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a comprehensive spa and beauty treatments We would recommend this hotel
