First the positives. Great location - rooms facing the lake or hills - we contemplated an upgrade to the lake facing option but couldn't agree on a deal. Front office staff were courteous and helpful. Now the ordinary - very ordinary breakfast spread qualitatively speaking. Very run down property - this is peak season and their lobby is in shambles as are several other parts of the hotel. Stained carpets in the room. Fortunately the aircon works.

If you attend a convention it is a very convenient place to stay,,, the hotel is a little old fashion and needs some refresh... they offer a buffer for breakfast with some minimum choices but stills correct; Staff at front desk is helpful, staff at the breakfast and bar area need some training; lack ok efficiency snd customer friendly approach;

View, setting, location are incomparable. However, the hotel, rooms, decor, ambiance Need renovations, updating & redecorating! The breakfast also needs upgrading! Rooms are very tiny, but saved by the balcony & Lake View, if you book that category. Feels like a hotel built in the 60's & never touched since. So much potential, but when it's billed as a 5 star, why bother? 3 Stars is generous and only because of the location.

I enjoyed my two night stay at this hotel. Even though the furniture and much of the infrastructure appears bit dated, overall the service is good and people at the hotel are very helpful. The best part perhaps is that it is just 10 steps from the lake with a lovely sit out from the bar and a nice garden separating the lake and the hotel premises. This makes up for everything else that could have been better.

Check in staff very nice and pleasant. Lake view from the room was gorgeous. unfortunately with this the positive experience ends. The hotel is old, and not much effort has been done to upgrade it since. Lobby looks straight from mid seventies. in room ventilation terribly loud, water pressure in the shower mediocre. furniture dated. Mattress frame lightweight, not affixed to wall and kept moving. Breakfast chaotic and long lines in the rush hours. Breakfast selection adequate for 3 star hotel, but charging 18 CHF for omelet and 10 CHF for porridge extra is just ridiculous. would not spend my money for this as there are better options around.

I thoroughly enjoyed the four nights I spent here, in late April, just as springtime was coming on strong in Montreux. This was my first visit to Switzerland--I was attending a conference at another hotel just down the road--and the Royal Plaza was in all respects a lovely introduction to this part of the world. My flight from the States landed in Geneva early in the morning, and I was at the hotel before 10:00. I had no realistic expectation of getting a room at that early hour, but David Merlo, who manages reservations, invited me to enjoy a pot of tea in the lounge and had a room ready for me within a half-hour. Per my request when I had made the reservation, it was a lake-facing room on an upper floor, with a drop-dead gorgeous view of Lake Geneva and the mountains beyond. The room itself was in all ways nicely appointed: spacious and quiet, with a very comfortable bed and a bath well-equipped with amenities, a readily adjustable Euro-style shower where, for once, I did not find myself spraying the entire bathroom, and a cozy terry-cloth bathrobe. The HD-TV had a reasonably generous set of English language channels, which was a nice bonus. WiFi was excellent. The breakfast buffet--which was included in the room rate--was superb, in the relaxed ambience of the Café Bellagio restaurant. Because I was involved in some heavy "conferencing" each day of my stay, and dealing with a wicked eight-hour time-zone difference, on three of the four evenings I opted for room service, which was also excellent. The food was very good, and beautifully presented. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. In all respects, a delightful experience. I have stayed in my share of five-star hotels over the years. I would rank this one in the top two or three.

On 11/4/17, after our visit to Chillon Castle, we proceeded to Montreux and checked-in at the Royal Plaza Hotel. A beautiful hotel fronting the promenade of Lake Geneva. That evening after dinner, my wife and I took a walk along the promenade and were pleasantly greeted by the blooming flowers of Spring. I was kept busy with my camera capturing the colorful & beautiful flowers! The lounge & bars are well-designed & decorated. The bedroom is comfortable & the buffet b'fast superb! Fully recommended for Travellers!

Booked in & received an upgrade . fantastic staff fantastic hotel. Nothing was too much trouble we also had complementary free bus travel which we used right up to day of departure. Wouldn't think twice about booking again totally recommend for avid Queen/ Freddie Mercury Fans..The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the statue and about a 15 minute walk to the mountain studio .Duck house is about 25 minute walk in the opposite direction but please note the house is in the grounds of a private residence but along the walk you have good advantage points of seeing the house from a distance. The train ride back from montreux to Geneva airport had breath taking views....

stayed here for 4 nights in feb 2017. rooms are ,simple and comfortable, with mountain and lake views. Breakfast buffet is delicious with a variety to satisfy all palettes ( i was not looking for indian food in switzerland !) The view across the breakfast tables, of the awesome snow clad alps and the gorgeous lake geneva, was enchanting.. staff is polite and ready to help always! enjoyed my short stay in this lovely city

Stayed there from Feb 13-17, was on a business trip. Situated on the banks of Lake Geneva, check-in was a breeze. I had a road facing room but there were lake facing rooms too. The room was very clean, warm and comfortable. There were electrically driven external blinds to cut out the light if required. A TV, mini bar and a double bed were very inviting. The bathroom was very neat and clean and included a bidet and twin wash basins. 4 lifts whisked the guests up to the 6 th floor. The restaurant named Cafe Bellagio is situated 2 floors below reception and opens out on the lake. The view from here is majestic especially at breakfast time. Food is excellent with a lavish breakfast spread. I also had a dinner a la carte consisting of soup and bread, pasta linguine with mushrooms and an espresso shot, costing roughly 50€. There's also a bar and coffee shop. Overall a great experience. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel.
