Writing on behalf of my sister. Her room was entered at night during her sleep and significant amount of cash was stolen. She reported to hotel as well as Police but seemed hotel was not helpful resolving the issue nor trying to help find out the incident. Someone entered the room during the night and took the cash. This not only showed no responsibility from the hotel in regards to stolen valuables, but also the security measure this hotel offer to the guest. Other guests' room was also being tampered with but luckily the guest was able to detect the enter and thus prevented any stolen incident. We would like the hotel to show more effort in resolving the issue and try to find out with any kind of security surveillance camera record if there are any. We (two senior couples) stayed at the Eden Palace in Montreux for 4days/3nights in early September. It was a great place, nice rooms (we had a lake view deluxe room) with a great view and balcony and a perfect location, right on the edge of the lake, within easy walking distance to the Casino, restaurants, and Chillon Castle. We took the wine train to Chexbres and walked the vineyards (The deck restaurant is amazing), visited Chillon Castle and Rocher de Naye (great fondue) and took the chocolate train to Guryeres (the best fondue) and Calliers, Would highly recommend all these adventures! Montruex was a great place to visit
We stayed at this hotel in a room with a full view on the lake. The room was good size and still had that original classic feel to it. There isn't a feel of luxury as much as there is a beautiful fee of authenticity and breath taking views. Located perfectly in the center, everything was an easy walk from this hotel.
A lovely, old style hotel. We had a huge room with a balcony with views over Lake Geneva. Lovely comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. The staff were friendly and welcoming and were at pains to recommend the free travel pass which gave discounts in restaurants and on various attractions. We used it to go on a boat trip. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice - cooked, cold meats and cheeses, breads and pastries, fresh fruits and preserves. My only criticism would be that there is no tea/coffee tray in the rooms. Not a huge problem as we take our own just in case, but so much more convenient if it’s provided
We were only here for one night. The hotel was an easy walk to/from the train station. The hotel is definitely in need of some refurbishing including the carpets, but we enjoyed the traditional old style charm of it and we had a balcony/lakefront room with stunning views which made it easy to overlook the other shortfalls! The bathroom smelled of stale smoke. We had breakfast at the hotel (included in rate) which provided good value and selection. We were provided with the local bus pass but didn't end up using it as we had a pleasant walk along the lake to Chillon Castle and back. Freddie Mercury statue and a casino are within minutes as are a number of great restaurants and bars.
If you are not a regular traveler to the French area of Switzerland, you would be amazed by the serene beauty welcoming you on the Montreux shores of Lake Geneva. The shores are blessed by an exotically and masterfully cultivated boardwalk filled with aesthetically pleasing garden flowers and trees, a paradise for walkers, revelers and bikers. Everything is safe and well organized with typical Swiss efficiency and charm. The Hotel has windows overlooking the boardwalk and the lake. It is well worth it to ask for a room with lake view. The building is old, but gradually undergoing upgrades and refurbishing. Lobby is open and welcoming. Hotel does have limited parking (for extra fees), which you must book well in advance. Otherwise, you could use public parking from the nearby supermarket (more costly). The area where the hotel is located is in the bustling commercial center of town. This sole location with the lake views, could well serve as a marvelous resting vacation spot by itself, regardless of what time of the year you visit. The drama of the local climate, the lake and the Swiss and French Alps surrounding the lake is captivating and changes occur moment to moment. I highly recommend it.
We spent two nights at the hotel. We liked the old fashioned ambience. Yes, there are areas that could use refurbishment but our room was nice and had a great view of the lake. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the the bathroom. Perhaps we had a room that was redone. Since the carpeting in the common areas are very light in color, spots are obvious. I do think spills and spots should be taken care of immediately. We were greeted by a very nice young lady (short blond hair) at check in. Had dinner in the hotel dining room and split a pasta entree and a salad as portions were very large. The breakfast was very nice with good service. It’s a short walk from the train station if you don’t have a lot of luggage. We had a pleasant two days in Montreux at Eden Palace.
Having stayed at the Eden Palace au Lac, I must say I felt cheated. On the 2nd day of arrival we went to Roches de Naye by the cog train. We had done so on our 1st ever visit 17 years ago. The weather was not good and it was like pea soup at the top. This wasn't the issue though. The issue was that we subsequently discovered that there is a travel pass which is provided by all hotels in Montreux, providing you are staying in one, On arrival and booking in we were not offered this pass, others were though. Receipt of this pass would have saved us approx £100 for the return trip for 2. We then asked at the reception and they gave us our passes without mention of a apology etc. The holiday itself was fantastic. A visit to Gstaad and Gruyere is a must. The scenery is beyond belief. My word of caution is make sure you do you homework before you leave as you can not rely on this hotel staff to provide you with what in practice you are entitled to.
We thoroughly enjoyed a nights stay here. The room was spacious and comfortable and the view simply perfect. I do agree that the carpets are a little faded but I wouldn't judge a hotel on its carpet! All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional. I would highly recommend staying here for the view alone.
Overpriced! The room was to small for a family of 4. The carpets had stains and was in really bad shape. One of the lamps next to the bed was loose and not screwed in properly. The wood under the bathroom sink was broken And some kind of BIG stain over the minibar.
