Hotel Crystal3.0 out of 5.0

Title is related to quality/price ratio which is not satisfying. Room 69 is big and clean, bathroom being too small. Do not be surprised that for late arrival security is through electronic communication.
Crystal is a wonderful hotel located in the center of Lausanne. I didn't really know what to expect, I simply needed a centrally located place in Lausanne for a weekend getaway. And I wasn't disappointed. First of all - fantastic, helpful, multilingual and (I can't stress this enough!) friendly staff. Breakfast on a balcony overlooking the old town! My room had a balcony as well. Make sure you ask for rooms on the 5th floor when booking your room. Parking costs 20chf and is located 300m from the hotel, but first of all it is in the center of the city and secondly - they offer you a complimentary public transport card for the duration of your stay. You won't have to use your car as long as you stay within Lausanne city limits.
The Crystal isn't a Hyatt Regency but it is a very nice small hotel in the center of Lausanne. It is close to a Metro station and a main bus line stop The staff are very accommodating. The women, especially Fannie, at the front desk are very helpful and have very good English skills. Having read other reviews about noisy rooms, I choose a quiet room rather than one with a view. This was a wise move. Room 27 was very quiet. If you want a view, you can go to the terrace on the 5th floor for a great view of the city. The room had a very comfortable queen bed. The room was nicely appointed and even had a refrigerator for your personal use. The bathroom was typical of most European ones - on the small side but had sufficient room. Shower is a little small but workable. WIFI was very good in the room. TV had a huge selection of channels although most were in French or German as would be expected. About the only negative would be the carpets in the hallway and landings could use a good cleaning. Breakfast was included and was just OK - could have done with a cold cut selection. I will be back in Lausanne in the near future and will stay there again.
The Crystal is in need of a refurbishment, at least that's true for the room I had at the front of the building. Decor is tired, with stained carpets in the public areas. The bathroom had been modernised and had a good shower, except it was spoilt by a yellowing wall-mounted hairdryer that breathed out tobacco-tinged air. I wasn't able to find temperature control of any kind in the room. The bed was not particularly comfortable, and the pillows were lumpy. There was also a real lack of power sockets - I had to move furniture about in order to get to one remotely near the bed. When I did, I didn't have anywhere to put my phone as on that side of the bed, there is no bedside table. There is a rail for hanging clothes, but no hangers, and no iron or ironing board with the room. For a leisure trip on a budget, this might be tolerable. On a business trip it was lacking and I do not plan to return.
This hotel is not really small, but you feel like at home. Ask for the rooms with balcony, they give you a nice view to city. If you feel they are too expensive for a view, then use the breakfast room, he has a balcony too.
Very nice and cozy little hotel. In the very center, a few steps away from the city gothic cathedral and good bars like The great escape. Beautiful terrace for breakfast on the 5th! Gluten free possible if requested in advance! Enjoy
Reserved late (23:05) and arrived later (00:30). Was made to wait 30 minutes outside (4°C, not so nice part of town) while a security guard more interested in checking my reservation that welcoming me figured out I was a perfectly legitimate customer. Staff became helpful afterward. But director put the blame on the website the next morning. This hotel does not have its story together for check-ins after 23:00. Waiting outside while they figure it out is not an enjoyable experience.
The reception is good and friendly. A complimentary water is offered and there is free wifi. The hotel is located right in the center, next to some nice bars as Bruxelles café. Rooms are modest but clean and are made every day. Breakfast is adequate and nice.
Well Switzerland is always a little hard on the wallet and somehow the Crystal was the cheapest we could find that also had a decent location and reviews. We were happy with our choice, with a big part of this being down to the balcony area where you can smoke and also where all day and evening you can make your own tea and coffee and enjoy it there with a lovely view across the rooftops with the cathedral in sight and a tiny glimpse of the lake. This is also where you can choose to take breakfast if you are lucky enough to get a table. The lady overseeing the breakfast is a little harsh and rebutted my request for a second cup of coffee by telling me I had already eaten breakfast but she backed down and brought it. One time I asked her what time breakfast finished and she asked me why I am asking her in a kind of rude way...I guess she feels like she must be the guardian of preventing people from abusing the breakfast buffet. It's actually a nice buffet with pots of filter coffee, lots of jams, salami and cheese for slicing, cereal, juice, croissant, pastries, bread. The room was clean and basic. The hotel is 2 tram stops away from the station, which is good. It's next door to a Coop supermarket and a few doors up from a McDonalds. If you're on a budget, check out the Coop just before closing on a Saturday evening to pick up some items reduced by 50 percent. The receptionist at the hotel was nice too and gave it a welcoming professional feel. Bring your own shampoo and soap if you are a toiletries snob as the bathroom has coloured liquid out of a dispenser for sink and shower.
Had a triple room. It has all the basics. Ensuite toilet and spacious bathroom are separated. The side street is just next to the hotel and it can be a little noisy in the night - with some people walking by and talking as if it was bright daylight. But this is a small problem. Breakfast at the roof-top terrace was a good experience. Staff was very helpful. The chiming of church bells at intervals set a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere in this location. Train station is very near. So are the shops and eateries.
