Best Western Hotel Continental3.0 out of 5.0

This hotel was a short walk from the San Giovanni train station. When you walk out of the train station, you walk straight ahead, down a set of stairs, cross the street at the street light, walk about a half of block and take a right into what looks like an alley. The hotel is about a block down this alley/street. A very easy walk that takes about 5 minutes. The Best Western is located about a 10 minute walk from the lake and other attractions, but out of the chaos and noise of the street traffic. We had a king bed room and found the room to be a comfortable size. There was a view of the Cathedral from the bathroom window. I know, who stands in the bathroom to take in the view; however, at night the Cathedral is lit and it was a nice view. Other than that, there is not a view. The room was a good size, clean, quiet, with a convenient location. They had a good buffet breakfast for 3 euro. The staff was very helpful and friendly. All-in-all, this is a good choice when visiting Como.
Stayed here as part of a group of 7. After reading mixed reviews we turned up not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. Lovely comfortable bed with good pillows. Lots of clothes storage and mini fridge. Also air- conditioning, just as well as it was still pretty hot for October. Our bathroom was nicely tiled with cubicle shower. Little selection of toiletries for those who may have forgotten something. Buffet continental breakfast was vast in way of choice. Mini chocolate croissants are to die for. We were glad to find there was a small selection of breakfast items that we're gluten free that were suitable for my sister who sometimes struggles. On the whole, a great stay in Como for a very reasonable price.
Not the most modern but service is excellent and at any time of the day. Rooms are clean and neat but deco needs to be freshened up. Good location and wide choice at breakfast. Staff is very helpful and Polite.
As we planned to arrive around 6:30pm, unfortunately, there was traffic jam from Luzcern to Como (by Flix Bus), maybe it was Friday, many people drive to Milano. finally, we arrived at train station around 8:30pm, . Within 10 min from train station (Como San Giovanni Train Station), Hotel was not located in the centre of Como and quiet area, but around 15 min to centre. The room was little bit old, there was no kettle. The breakfast is standard buffet. Luggage was just left in the hotel lobby, without any luggage tag issued.
Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights.... double room - the room was soo small you couldn't swing a mouse in it never mind a cat!!! We had a wedding - i needed to iron a few shirts - in order for me to get the ironing board in the room i had to kneel on the bed to use it!!! Breakfast was extra and horrible too..... never seemed to have much and what they did have wasn't ateable in my opinion. I would NOT stay here again - not even for free The bed was like sleeping on a slab of concrete - located on a busy road
I just want to record that this was the worst room I've ever stayed in my life. is the most uncomfortable, a cubicle in which one can not even open the suitcase. Terrible The worst of all Italy. Rooms with 9m. do not come!
Great staff, good breakfast buffet. comfortable rooms. Beds comfortable, pillows were too. Again, slow small elevator. Shower was one of those weird half glass thingies with no shower door. Hand held shower head that you could affix to an upper point but then the bathroom turns into a swimming pool. So one needs to be very inventive to take a shower without giving the floors below you a wet ceiling. Self serve laundry a half a mile away in a cool neighborhood away from the crowds. The staff at the breakfast buffet are the hardest workers.
The best thing about the hotel is the location. You can literally see the hotel lights as you leave the Como St Giovanni Railway Station which is a few minutes walk away. St Giovanni is the main railway station linking Como with a frequent service from Milan Central Railway station. Tickets for buses to Menaggio and Belaggio etc can be purchased in the railway station bar and many buses around the lake and the countryside start of stop here too. The breakfast at the hotel was wonderful. l have no idea how they can manage such a splendid buffet of eggs, bacon, local cheeses, ham, salamis, pastries, fresh fruit, cerials, yogurts, fruit juice etc for an additional cost of 3 euros per day. The reception is open 24 hours a day and the staff, especially Serena, are helpful. There is a useful computer in the foyer for those of us who need to print off boarding passes. The receptionist charged my mobile telephone at the desk when l had foolishly brought the wrong adaptor.. My room was small but perfectly adequate with a simple shower that worked well and a good safe deposit where l could leave my passport. Tea and coffee making facilities are available, although l couldn't get my kettle to work in the bedroom.. The hotel will give you a wake up call if asked. There is a daily English language newspaper but less tourist information in the forms of leaflets about trips etc than l have had in other places. The hotel is scrupulously cleaned. The Best Western is excellent value for money -- Como is not cheap -- and a short walk into the town centre. It is worth visiting for the location and the breakfast on their own.
I booked this hotel through amoma & then read the reviews, oh God I thought, firstly about amoma then the hotel, I need'nt have worried I got a fantastic deal through amoma with no problems upon check in, the staff were fantastic & were trying to teach me Italian, ok we had no view from our room & the shower was very compact but the bed was massive, breakfast was great we had 10 very pleasant nights here, close to all amenities would certainly stay here again, thank you staff ☺
We have just spent 5 nights at this hotel. We booked quite last minute and price paid was very reasonable for the area. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk into the town and the lake front. Our room was very clean, comfortable and spacious. One downside is that it is on a rather busy road- so traffic noise is a factor that may annoy some guests. The hotel offered a breakfast for 3 euros each per day! The hotel staff were all polite and helpful.
