The hotel main attraction is the thermal spa, no other hotel in the area offer this feature. Also, you can enjoy a rustic sauna heated with wood that have to be requested at least 2 hours in advance. Like others have said the hotel is next to a school with a band playing during the afternoon. I also had to get up from my bed and tell two guys that where drinking and talking loud in front of my room to be considerate to other guests. They have a security guard at the front but I guess he doesn`t patrol the grounds.
It is not pleasant to write an unfavorable review but unfortunately I must do so. We recently booked the Regis for a three night stay. I booked thru Expedia. Before our arrival I received notice from my bank that a charge had been made to my credit card. Upon arrival I immediately asked if the room had been paid. I was assured it had not been paid so my friends paid it. Once I was able to check bank charges online, I saw that they had charged us TWICE. I know these things happen and I was not worried thinking they would credit my card and that would be the end. NOT SO. They basically told me it was my problem and to contact EXPEDIA or my bank. Since room was paid for with two different cards, one mine and the other my friend's,my bank was not the solution. To make a long story short, it took several hours of discussion with a very rude woman in reception who thought it was my problem, not theirs. They insisted it was my fault for using a debit card! I was shocked that they would not put themselves in the place of the consumer. I was treated with a complete lack of kindness or empathy. I lost several hours of vacation time trying to solve this. We booked multiple rooms so it was not a small amount of money I could just forget about it. Finally after all my insistence they grudgingly gave me a refund by CHECK. I had to find their bank, stand in line 20 minutes to cash this. I was a very "unhappy camper". The rooms were ok, the food in the restaurant terrible. I was sorry to have picked this hotel and hope my experience will help others make a better decision.
Good location in the heart of town and nice staff (aren't all Guatemalans nice tho?) but that's about it. Otherwise I thought the place was average at best - my room had tiny windows so hardly any light got in, and it was next to the kitchen plus a school next door so pretty noisy. Considering the price, i was disappointed.
We have stayed at the Regis Hotel many times in the past years and have enjoyed their service and location. This time we were disappointed. There was loud noise, talking and shouting from men and women until 3am. The front desk was indifferent to this problem.
This little piece of paradise right in the heart of Pana is the perfect location to stay. You get to enjoy some wonderful thermal pools and stunning gardens. When you step out the main gate your right in the heart of Pana with an array of resteraunt and bars only a few steps away.
Very peaceful grounds with a great thermal water soaking area. The manager allowed us to stay past regular hours since several of us were enjoying the moment. Rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. Great location and safe. Would recommend this hotel. No Wifi in rooms.
First let me start off by saying the one bad thing about this hotel, so I can proceed to talk about all the good things (and there are many). We found the noise to be a bit much. When we were there, the school next door had two nightly events, including really loud music and fireworks, so it wasn't the best night of sleep we've ever had and well this is annoying when you're on vacation. But notice that nonetheless I am giving this hotel 5 stars because... The grounds are BEAUTIFUL! There are plenty of green areas, you can hear birds singing always and it is just so peaceful. It feels like an oasis when you enter it after walking around all the shops. We loved the hot springs and the fact that there was always someone asking us if the temperature was okay and turning the water "on" if it wasn't hot enough. It also has a small waterfall space which you can use to cool off before going to your room (be brave and don't skip this, or you will feel very hot afterwards for at least 30 minutes in you room) or in between the hot spring soaks. This place also has a temazcal (which requires previous reservation since they have to "fire it up", we reserved it about two hours before we went and it was ready when we arrived), which is very unique to see anywhere. A temazcal is an older version of what we now call sauna. The rooms are quite spacious, we were only two but it could have perfectly fit the four people comfortably. We had a little terrace to sit out in front which was wonderful. The beds could've been softer but maybe I'm just too picky with my sleeping conditions. The windows could also be opened if you needed air and had screen. The shower had good water pressure but be warned it was never cold cold, but instead luke warm (we didn't mind this as we showered at night or in the early morning when temperatures were cool). You can't drink the water from the faucet because of its volcanic origin but the hotel provides complimentary water bottles and areas to refill them. The location is also great, about a 10 minute walk to catch a boat to explore the other towns. Price to visit one town only is 25 quetzales one way or 50 quetzales (around $6.82) both ways...if you want to take a tour the price is higher. The shops are surrounding all the main street (where the hotel is located) and our word of advice is to shop in Pana instead of Chichicastenango (if you are planning to visit) as we found prices to be lower and the haggling more easy. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast, once they had a buffet (around $10 per person) which had cereal, fruits, sausages, fried platains, beans, pancakes and an omelette/egg station and the other time we ordered from the menu...both times the food was good (but if you don't eat a lot and they have the buffet, keep in mind you are a 5 minute walk or less away from good restaurants that serve breakfast). Wi-Fi only works in the lobby area (which they inform you of), so keep this in mind if you have business to do. If you don't, see it is a pleasant opportunity to enjoy everything else. (: We would definitely stay here again if we come back, it is truly a unique experience, a peaceful getaway in the middle of a slightly hectic (but highly enjoyable) enviorment and to be honest we have no real complaints except for the noise.
Great spot in the middle of town. 10 minutes walk to waterfront for lanchas to the other lake towns. Sauna and thermal baths onsite and included in the price. Staff were great, always friendly and helpful.
Rooms were super dated with wires hanging from the wall and the toilet paper was tiny squares. Free internet? No- just in the lobby. There appeared to be nicer rooms but we were in a shack. No phone, hair dryer. I needed to tell my wife it was like camping. It was a $20 place not $90 Older manager was rude and acted more like a policeman rather than a host. Advertised you can cancel with a day notice and manager said that was impossible after taking Paynent. No sir - it is not impossible. If you don't want to abide by the policies of Expedia or Orbitz, do not network with them. Will not return.
We arrived to the hotel rather late in the day. Security is good. Our room was clean and the shower was nice with plenty of hot water. The surprise was that there are 2 outdoor hot spring-fed stone hot tubs with, wait for it... a POOL BOY! Ernesto was our man! He heated up the hot tub water while we got ready and then brought us cocktails. My son loved his non-alcohol pina colada and I enjoyed my modified white Russian while soaking in our little pool of heaven. The location of the hotel is only a few block from the lake and is very quiet. It is right in the heart of shopping and restaurants so lots to do when not on an excursion. There wasn't wifi in our room so the kids sat in the hotel reception area until 10 pm snap chatting their hearts out... ugh.
