Hotel Gloria Copacabana - Hostel2.5 out of 5.0

This hotel is old school and we had a really lovely, relaxing, stay on our 1 night in Copacabana before heading to La Paz. Our room was large with two big beds that were supper comfy and had the freshest clean white sheets. The Lake view from our room was breathtaking. Breakfast was great and all the staff were friendly and really helpful. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay on the Lake, near the Main Street, bars, restaurants and shops, then this is the place for you. Whilst it didn’t bother us, the wooden floors are quite creaky and you can hear upstairs moving about.
Apart from the exterior view, you cannot tell the hotel is currently under renovation. A lot of things are dated but the hotel has lots of charm. It has an excellent view to Lake Titicaca. The building is set back from its ground which provides more privacy than other neighbouring hotels without sacrificing the view. The ground is well maintained and is a lovely place to relax. The lounge provides a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Breakfast is surprisingly good. Hot water is only available within certain hours. We have a flat screen TV in our room but we had no remote control to turn the TV on.
We got off the bus and as we were walking to our hostel we found out it was a long way up on a hill and we didn't want to drag our luggage all that way. We looked across the road and saw the Gloria Hotel with its impressive front court yard and views of the lake. Both my husband and I looked at each other and said "why not?". So we checked the price and were surprised at how reasonable it was. Our room was huge and had glorious ( excuse the pun) views over the lake. It had two huge double beds in it that were extremely comfortable. Breakfast was included and the usual Peruvian/ Bolivian help yourself spread. Looking at old pictures of this hotel they appear to have renovated the front of it. It now has lovely terracotta tiles on the steps and front court yard. It's a really nice place to stay. However it has no lift, only stairs.
This is one of the more upmarket hotels in Copacabana, on the shores of lake Titicaca, (the other is hotel Mirador). It has nicely fitted rooms, clean and comfortable, great beds and lovely feather duvets. Make sure to get a room with a view of the lake though as facing the other way is not so inspiring. The outside needs a good lick of paint and some TLC but for kids there are good sized gardens to run around, complete with rickety swings and climbing frame, mini golf, tennis courts and a couple of llamas to keep the grass short! Great breakfast, nice lounge area, stones through from Cathedral, main square and waterfront. Staff very friendly and helpful.
This is a strange hotel - faded glory, but very clean. Acres of polished wood floors and the feeling that we were the only people in the hotel. Great staff, especially in the kitchen. We had an early start and were given a special early breakfast. Beautiful position right on Lake Titicaca and just round the corner from the touristy part of town. Large grounds, with a football pitch, crazy golf, small children's playground and a family of alpacas. We enjoyed our time in the town and our quirky hotel in Bolivia.
The hotel is well located a couple of blocks away from the cathedral and the main square, and one block from the key street with the bars/ restaurants. Many of the rooms have lake views and there is a large seating area on the ground floor overlooking the lake too.
We were very sceptical to stay at this hotel based on the reviews but were very pleasantly surprised. Our room on 3rd floor was very clean with crisp sheets and Great Lake views. Good internet connection and hot showers at bed time and morning. Floor boards were squeaky and shower leaked but you felt the old lady could transform with more tlc and welcoming service by reception staff.
I was one of a group of three and booked a room for the night with 3 beds. This hotel was nice - polished wood floors, nice beds, very clean. However we were almost alone in the building. Breakfast was provided and was pretty normal. We had a bit of a stopover and the staff allowed us to hangout after our check out time. I would stay here again.
Bed was very average but the view is magnificent. Basic electric heating was a plus, bathroom was small and workable but also very average and hot water at best average. The hotel needs a bit of TLC, its had better days but this is Bolivia after all. Its huge and has creaky wooden floorboards, a large lounge area and dining room. The inhouse restaurant was ok but nothing to write about for dinner. Breakfast was poor though, they could really step up here with some better coffee and fruit for example. Service was average, no issues but not overly attentive either. The wifi worked and was ok for messaging but did drop in and out quite a lot. Its close to shops and the main strip of town is about a 5minute walk away. Overall not a bad place for the price and location.
I stayed two nights at the Hotel Gloria Copacabana, and it was nice. The hotel is old fashion and needs some restauration. The views are beautiful from the rooms , dining room and loving room. Rooms are spacious, electrical heating, cable TV. Very attentive staff. Old bathroom, needs some updating. Free wifi, cery very slow. Good breakfast.
