We stayed here (room 402) for one night with friends and would definitely stay again. It’s so beautiful, inside and outside and steeped in history. I disagree with the person who said it needs updating, I think it’s perfect as it is. Rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. Toiletries included in the bathroom. Hairdryer in the bathroom. Tv in bedroom. Mini bar in sitting room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was plentiful. It’s a stone’s throw from Santiago Cathedral. There are lots of lovely places to eat and drink just a very short walk away.
Situated in a former convent on the edge of the old city walls, the San Francisco offers a great stay during your time in Santiago. Rooms are decent size but plain and include a large bath, lots of closet space and a comfortable double bed and chair. The shuttered windows are very small, and the desk would be more useful if it had a mirror over it for ladies to do makeup while seated. Electrical outlets are sufficient and convenient for travelers. The public areas are modern but have made concessions to the old building, including a beautiful breakfast room in the former chapter and the restaurant in the former chapel. The staff are friendly and helpful, with very good English skills. Free valet parking. Very good full breakfast (included with our room) featuring excellent coffee. The restaurant in the hotel is open all day and is very good. Highly recommend a visit to this wonderful city with a stay at the San Francisco.
I stayed here for two nights this month for business. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the cathedral so in a great location for seeing the sights. The street is lined with souvenir shops and bakeries. The room was well equipped with a mini bar, good toiletries and useful items like cotton pads etc. There was no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the beds were very firm. The pool area was lovely, very clean and relaxing. Breakfast was a buffet including pastries, churros, cooked items, fruit, yogurts, cheese etc. It was very quiet and peaceful, traffic is limited as it's in a historic area so no noise from outside. Lovely to see some of the historic parts of the building protected by glass but still viewable! I wish I'd had more time to stay and see more of the area.
A well located hotel with monumental flair. The rooms are large. The house offers all kind of convention and conference services that might not be relevant to individual travellers. Service at the front desk was courteous and efficient. Still, the hotel badly needs an update. The architecture was probably - long time ago now - a good idea: a cloister with some modern features added. It all looks a bit dated now. This is nowhere more evident than in the bathrooms and the beds. Blankets, pillows, curtains, tables all feel really tired by now. My main problem, and the reason I will not visit again is the breakfast. Below the acceptable minimum.
Arrived late in the evening but welcoming staff, room clean, and bed very comfortable a little cool but extra blankets (coldest winter they've had for a while) Breakfast self service lots of selection from cold meats, cheese, fruit, cereals to eggs. Beautiful hotel, peaceful and well worth the cost for such a unique hotel.
This hotel is more than unique and worth each penny. It’s an old monastery (or abbey?) which was turned into an amazing hotel including Bar, Restaurant and pool. Great service, good quality and lovely rooms. Very individual hotel, modern look in ancient building. Love it! My tip: enjoy a great time in this hotel while being in Santiago.
This is an amazing hotel. It is built inside a 17th century monastery and is attached to a working church. The hotel is completely modern, but they have maintained the historic charm and architecture. The rooms are open and spacious and extremely clean. The restaurant is amazing. Possibly the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed at.
I have stayed at this hotel four times and I am simply blown away again and again. I love the people who work there too, all of them, especially Jose Maria and Antonio! Hotel is beautiful, incredible history, the perfect location and spectacular courtyards. All around a beautiful reminder of Franciscans walking through the corridors of what was a monastery since the 13th century, though most of what stands today dates from the 18th century. The oldest section’s Gothic arches go back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Attached to the neoclassical San Francisco church (also with 13th-century). Part of the hotel is still a working monastery, and you’ll probably see some monks walking around.
The staff are helpful and friendly, there is a good variety for breakfast, it's a useful central location and the conversion from monastery to hotel has been done very well. The rooms are a good size and comfortable.
I can recommend this jewel whenever you are in Santiago de Compostela. The atmosphere goes with this historic city. The rooms are big and nice, very clean and it is located very close to the cathedral in the center.
