THE HOTEL KIYOMIZU GION3.0 out of 5.0

If you would like to spend some days in the typical geisha s neighborhood (Gion) in Kyoto ,in a quiet small road together with the locals, choose this boutique hotel. It is a trip from itself, its style is Japanese with extremely friendly (as almost everywhere in Japan) and caring staff. When we visited this hotel ,they even had a happy hour (three hours basically from 20.00 to 23.00) with free drinks to meet the other guests... Highly recommended!!!
Hotel Kiyomizu is not only in a great location, but the rooms are immaculate and comfortable. Of particular note is the concierge, Asaka Takigawa. Friendly, smart, and so well-informed and helpful that she made our trip a breeze. From booking restaurants to massages for my husband and I, Asaka did it all. Plus, especially helpful for us was that her English is perfect. Asaka was so skilled at all that she did that I assumed she was the manager. She wasn't but she could be!!
OK - It is hard to find good value for money accommodation in Kyoto, so book EARLY, and ideally find a decent room close to the train station. Public transport (Buses & Metro) are excellent and if you have easy access to them, everywhere is accessible. After all, most of us spend little time in our rooms with our eyes open ;-).... We stayed 4 nights here, and found that both the overall cost, and distance from public transport was an issue - that said, a 20min walk in most every direction was rewarded admirably. $20 cab fares was the norm to/from the station was the norm. The Hotel does have a nice ambiance, is very clean, and rooms are small but contemporary. Breakfast was the same ingredients every morning and only a bit above average in our experience. I can't help but think it would really do with a good bit of input from a creative Japanese woman to put it back on the right track.
A great place to rest after a days sight seeing in Kyoto. It is walking distance to most Gion sights, so for me it was a no brainer as this was what I wanted to see in Kyoto. The staff were very helpful, the japanese breakfast was great, they even have a free happy hour (I didn't partake).
Location in Gion is excellent. You can easily walk to famous temples in the area and the well known Gion area is right outside the door. Room is big and clean. Fresh air in the room in spite of the summerheat. Toilet and shower in perfect condition. Wifi works perfect. Very quiet and relaxing room. I was served an excellent japanese breakfast in the room every morning. Also free drinks at the lobby every night with other guests. Very nice and kind staff. I stayed here a full week in july and could easily stayed another week. I will definitive choose this hotel next time I visit Kyoto. Highly recommended.
We stayed here for one night! It is close to everything: restaurants, super cool vintage shop, temples, train stations. Take advantage of traditional breakfast! It is payed out beautifully! The rooms have everything you need and more. Will definitely stay here again on my next Kyoto trip!!!
Nice little boutique hotel. Rooms very small but reasonably well appointed. We found some lovely little restaurants nearby. Staff English is limited but they are very friendly. The neighbourhood is quiet at night so we slept well after all our walking. The en suite is a step up from the bedroom so we worried about tripping in the night - but we were fine!.
Only a small boutique type hotel but would recommend and would stay again. Great location and push bikes (for cheap hire) available to get around these awesome streets. It is walking distance to everything you may need and some key areas.
We stayed at the Kiyomizu Gion for three nights to explore Kyoto. The hotel is in the Gion area, tucked away in a small street. The hotel staff are very helpful and booked our dinners each night. The hotel offers in-house Japanese breakfast, delivered in your room (pictured) or you can have a western breakfast at a trendy cafe meters from the hotel. We opted for both the Japanese and Western breakfasts and enjoyed the Japanese one more. It was delivered at the time we requested, was hot, freshly made and delicious. Much better than the cafe down the street, who took more than one hour to deliver our breakfast to our table. The hotel is in a great location too - close to the Gion area and key temples. We loved our stay and will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.
What a terrific little hotel in a sensational location. This is a tiny hotel. Around 20 rooms on 5 floors. The room is small, but sufficient. Nicely decorated. Treat yourself to the Japanese breakfast in your room. Very very tasty and delivered. Whilst western style breakfast is available just a few doors down in a cafe (and provided in your room cost) it was “adequate”, but very slow. Take the challenge and try the in room Japanese style. The happy hour free drinks from 8pm until 11pm is a great touch, although not well patronised. The service is terrific. Very helpful. The team were keen to make our stay a treat. They succeeded.
