The hotel needs a lot of work. Being in such a prime spot the hotel is not well maintained. Our first day the shower didn't work and manager still tried to convince us to remain in the room by claiming they were fully booked - this isn't always the case so don't get fooled. After insistence he gave us another room. Parking is provided in the building next door which doesn't feel safe when you need to go to and from your car. I don't know if it was because golf the peak period but there was crazy loud music in the alley until 3-4am. It was horrible, I could not sleep through it. Even on a tight budget I'd rather book into a guest house next time. Take some pride in calling yourselves a hotel. Revamp!
On the first night the fan outside fell out of its mounting and started making a terrible noise. Staff had to climb outside to fix it. No hot water for 3 days. No Wifi even though it was advertised. Room was smelly and old and dilapidated. Parking was across the road in a urine smelling area. Lifts did not work. So noisy all night every night. No fresh towels.
after reading reviews we were wondering if we had made a mistake no this hotel was very good staff very helpfull from start to check out rooms clean furniture good do with aspurace up ref food use there clipper restaurant good food at a fair price best hotel breakfast in durban stay here you dont need transport just get the shuffle at air port drops you outside hotel
The room looked cleaned, but the bedding smelled a little funny. The staff are ok. Parking is across the road, and not very safe. Breakfast was terrible. There is a lot of noise from the outside of the hotel, and we really battled to sleep. Last time for me. Thank you!
Well maintained place with refreshing view of the ocean. My family and I enjoyed our stay, and the staff is ever assisting with friendly faces. We are going to visit Durban again since my family loved the Tropicana Hotel, it will be our home in Durban.
Gooderson Tropcana Hotel is a reasonably-priced hotel located on the "Golden Mile", on the shore. Furnitures and facilities are a bit old but perfectly functional, the place is clean and the sea view is really appreciable. The bar on the ground level serves fresh Castle draught beer. A good place for a short stay.
Booking in where almost an problem. we arive just before 12oclock the night. They told us they don't have space for us they are full booked for the weekend. But we have booked. after about an hour we find an room. Not the room that we have booked for but they move us to an better room for free. So there are still good pepols in the world. Hotel food and room where grate. Thanks To the Night Staff
The female receptionist on the night of 23/12/2016 was very friendly and competent. She orientated us about the hotel, breakfast times, parking and the nearby attractions. We immediately felt accepted and at home. The family was impressed with the promise kept by the hotel to allocate us two sea facing rooms as we requested. We really enjoyed the sight of the sea and felt the breeze when we opened the windows and seeing visitors jogging or cycling in the early mornings along the promenade. This was so refreshing and we felt as though we were in our second home. Both rooms were very clean, all electrical appliances were in working order, toiletries were added daily and all the resources in the rooms are exactly as advertised on the website. Thank you for telling the truth !! We noticed some few hiccups though; tea cups and glasses in the second room were supposed to be 3 as i booked for my 3 children but they were only 2, there was a shortage of 1 extra towel as well and tea ingredients should also be enough for the number of people that booked a particular room. House keeping should check the number of people that booked the rooms to allocate items appropriately. The highlight of our visit was the most delicious breakfast that we always looked forward to every morning. We were really spoiled for choice with the tasty buffet. All the staff in the Seven Palms Restaurant treated us with courtesy and we felt respected. How can i forget Siyabonga who always ensured that we are comfortably seated to enjoy our meals !! Big up to Raj the porter who carried our luggage and assisted us with a smile to unlock the doors when we checked in. Tropicana, we really enjoyed our six night stay and we will definitely visit again.
Really enjoyed my stay here. The staff was very nice, welcoming and the breakfast buffet was very tasty, The WIFI works better in lobby and business areas but is in serious need of an upgrade in the hotel rooms itself but good that it is free. The hotel is in a prime location with great views of the ocean and close to a lot of beach restaurants/bars and fun nightlife.
Where to start? Parking lot across the road is very shady, I parked in front of the hotel one night as my kids were sleeping in the car and it was raining so I had to carry each one to the room, went down to move the vehicle to the parking lot across the road which I had to pay an additional R400 for I noticed a R500 fine on my windscreen, the hotel reported me to Metro and I got a ticket for parking there they admitted to this. The bathroom door only opens if you have the strength of a WWE wrestler, the water in the shower is never warm always very hot or very cold. I can boil water faster using a lighter at the bottom of the cup instead of their kettles. They use these useless keys to open your room door, whilst I stayed their I noticed 3 other people complaining to them that they cannot get in their room because the keys just don't work. They have no clue how to treat their guests and I would really never suggest anyone ever stay here. The manager is completely useless even if you approach him about things, the best thing would be for this hotel to close down so I can laugh in there faces.
