We spent a night at the hotel as we wanted to do a trail run in the area. We arrived in the morning and set off on our run from the Castleburn Farm and ran to Swaaiman's hut. Once we paid at the hut we walked back to the hotel. We sat in the sun on the terrace and had a lovely lunch. The rooms were comfortable and the dinner was delicious. The next day after a good nights sleep, we set off from Swaaiman's hut to Bushman's Nek Hotel. We didn't hang around the hotel too long but there seemed to be lots of activities available. We played a fun game of Bingo in the bar the night before.
In July we stayed two days at Gooderson Drakensberg. The cottage was so cold that extra heating was needed. The view at the Drakensberg was blocked by trees (roomnumbers in the range of the 70's) But the most horrible was the buffet. Besides good staff the buffet was cold before we returned to the table. We were not informed about this bad quality and the possibility to eat a-la-carte.
I have never stayed in the Southern Berg before, so it's fortunate that for our first venture into the wild Drakensberg as a small family, we chose this wonderful, fully equipped resort. Drakensberg Gardens is seated just under Rhino Peak which is an awe-inspiring setting. You feel as if you have arrived in a world of its own, as the grounds of this establishment are just massive. If you like options, this is the place for you, because when it comes to accommodation, entertainment, activities, facilities, there is just so much to choose from that there is no way you can do it all in just one weekend. Golfing and a fully equipped spa with a heated hydro pool are just to of the the most popular attractions as the name suggests. However there is just so much more: horse-riding, various swimming pools as well as a mini-water park, bowls, tennis, fishing and boating, mini golf, an adventure course including a rope course, zip lining and archery. We haven’t even mentioned the mountain-biking course and numerous scenic hiking trails. We had and amazing time and my young son can't stop talking about it. Thank you Gooderson Drakensberg Gardens for a fabulous family getaway, we had a great time!
We stayed at the Riverbend Chalets within the Drakensberg Gardens. The chalets are self catering and fully furnished. We found the checkin staff to be extremely helpful and friendly! The cottage catered to our family of 4 adults every need! There is lots to do on the premises are you are given an information sheet upon arrival. There is also a little shop on the premises but expect to pay 'holiday maker' prices.
As guests of Lake Naverone down the road we decided to spend a day here. Day visitors can make full use of all facilities at a nominal day visitor fee paid at the gate. The rest of the activities can be booked and paid for either at the Leisure desk in the main building or in the case of the Golf and Spa, be paid there. The grounds are well kept and all the facilities are in an excellent condition. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Hubby decided to play 18 holes on their beautiful golf course and the girls and I went for a relaxing morning at the spa. There is also horse riding, an adventure course including a zip line and mini golf. The resort offers a variety of restaurants to choose from and also has lovely picnic settings if you choose to pack a basket.
I would suggest to use one of the self service chalets or timeshare. The restaurants are really poor. Rooms okay although I am not a fan of moldy showers. The views and location are spectacular...road to get there is in poor state though.
The resorts facilities are amazing and this place is definitely the place to go when you have kids, however make sure you are prepared to pay. From the water your request in your room all the way through to using tennis court or squash court you are expected to pay, which made our long weekend away slightly more expensive than we planned. The Bistro restaurant on premises - don't waste your time please. Our table of 10 waited an hour for coffees and teas to arrive. When questioning our waiter on when to expect our food, we were only given an annoyed look and frequent rolling eyes from the staff members. When seeking a manager or higher staff member to question the service, there was no one to be found or accountable. Our family booked a zipline experience for 09h00 on the morning of our departure, of which we booked the day before. After waiting for 15 mintues and no staff had yet to arrive at the zipline, we decided to leave with disappointment. I have never been to a place where the hospitality of the staff was so poor.
A great hotel for a weekend break. Fantastic mountain views and some good hiking. Eagles Roost Restaurant offered a good range of food but as the restaurant was very busy with two big parties the service was rather slow. It didn't matter for us as we were in no hurry.
The Hotel facilities are great but the Bistro restaurant has terrible service and the staff do not seem very interested in assisting you to take an order and then bring you your order. The put put course used by a lot of the resort guests needs an upgrade on the front nine. Other than that the resort is great and offers good value for money.
As a large family of 16 guests, we could not have been more disappointed in the staff and general hotel. Slow (no) service at the Bistro Cafe and having our waitress blatantly ignore us and then roll her eyes at us was a first for all of us. Mostly every staff interaction resulted in conflict, snottiness and down right rude. Expect to pay for every activity, no matter how small it is. Something we have never encountered elsehwere. What saves this hotel is it's stunning setting, clean rooms and child friendly pool area. I would never recommend this hotel.
