We were a group of 3 adults plus a child (3yrs) hoping to spend nice days at Varinda resort, from 26 Dec 2018 onwards, 7 days paid upfront, a mistake which must not be made. After 1 night we left the place and they refunded 2 nights, means 4 nights were paid for nothing. I regret that I did not read he negative reviews for this place earlier. Today I agree to every of those negative reviews even though they are a bit older. Nothing seems to have changed - a terrible place, and dangerous during rainy season since wooden walkways between the houses are extremely slippery. On the day of leaving I slipped off the walkway in front of house no. 4 and got badly injured on my chest and bruised my rips. My screams went unheard and nobody came to help. We may have been less critical had the weather been better. However the hippie-style of the place blindfolds you during booking and you expect some family-type of caretaking of the staff. You could not be more wrong. Everything is worn out. They seem to take pride in offering little comfort, and breakfast is backpacker style. Child pool is 90 or 100cm deep, dont remember, but not ok for toddlers. There is a sign in the toilet of the house saying that you must not dispose sanitary papers into the toilet. There is a small basket for that but without offering plastic bags for collection. Housekeeping staff remained unseen for us, so I cant say if and when those wastes would be removed. Website photos suggest that the place is somehow in a remote forest location, but actually its a bit on a hill and just off the main road in Lamai in a regular neighborhood. There is no ocean view. Make a long story short, try to avoid a visit if you can.
We went there on 26th of December and booked two rooms and paid upfront for 7 days. When we have arrived it was raining like a waterfall which is not the host´s mistake but the rest is! You cannot walk with or without luggage on the slippery paths to start with, right on arrival my mom-67 yrs old- slipped and hurt, kettles did not work they had to change it, AC did not work room has changed, even for a bottle of water if you need then you have to walk all the way - if you can manage without slipping of course- to the so called restaurant to get one or they advise you go to 7/11 market! Then we asked the manager with this weather we don’t want to stay and we will be returning to our home country, and we offered if we can get at least half of the payment back, answer is no! Only we got 2 nights back and they kept 5 days although we stayed only one night. The other reason we couldn’t stay more was in the morning my hubby went to room to get something and he slipped all the way and hurt his chest and hip and ankle which needed an X-ray and a doc visit, right after my little 3 year old has slipped the same way. No response at all! No help offered. I don’t want to mention the bfast not to make myself more upset, just a small hint though cold but heart shaped fried eggs. If you have a child/children make sure that you are not going there during any rainy days, even if it’s a drop of it. Decoration is really nice that’s why we have chosen this place. Green all the way and koi pool around are the good points.
We had a wonderful time at Varinda Garden Resort in July and August this year (2017) The family room was great, views were great and there was everything nearby. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and great to chat with. Food and drinks delious and even a pool table which our 13 year old son became very accomplished. View from the restaurant and pool were best on the island. Good to be able to just walk to shopping and restaurants and the beach very calming. Tropical gardens were brilliant and the entire place had a great Thai feel to it not like a western hotel. Best thing were the dogs.... so many happy dogs .... Will return soon. Thank you Varinda Gardens
I love this hotel. So beautifully decorated. Very colourful and cozy. I enjoyed the food a lot and nothing here is overpriced. The pool and waterside are a lot of fun. It's not far from the beach and very close to the main road with convenience stores located in walking distance. However there is no noise disturbance from the road. The staff is friendly and I really enjoyed just sitting out in the restaurant having coffees and watching the view with the breeze and sounds of birds chirping. Very wonderful energy. I would recommend this place to anyone. Great value for money.
If you want to be able to roll out of bed and stay only metres away from the beach, then you will probably not want to stay here. But you would be missing out on a lovely, peaceful oasis. Bungalows are scattered throughout the lush gardens on the hill, offering a lot of privacy. We stayed in a superior bungalow which was spacious and light with views into the surrounding trees and a hill. All the bungalows have verandas and some bungalows have kitchens (these would be great for families or longer stays). A lot of thought and effort went into the decor. It may be a bit „over the top“ but it creates a truly special one-of-a-kind place. The friendly staff added to the family feeling (there are some very critical reviews about the staff on TA, which we cannot confirm). The pools are fabulous and offer a fabulous view of the ocean. The breakfast is very good. Town and the beach are an easy 5-10-minute walk down the hilll. The shortest way to a beautiful spot on the beach: after you exit the gate from the hotel’s short cut turn right at the turnoff to the Annatapurna Hotel complex, go down the short hill towards the water and you’re on the best part of the beach (if you enjoy peace). From there you’re almost at the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks. I cannot recommend the Varinda enough, also for families (there is a small playground and pool toys as well as a water slide). For people who have trouble climbing steps the hotel would probably not be a good option. Free wifi is only available in the lobby, for in-room wifi you pay 100 baht for 1.5 hours.
We had a lovely 10 days here, having 3 small children we wondered about not being straight on the beach but overall were very happy with our choice especially as we had 2 bedrooms and a lounge which is a lot easier than 2 rooms. The main positives; Very pretty and peaceful and unique Staff very friendly Value for money Good service for lunch/dinner Doesn't feel over crowded, your choice of pool or restaurant places Away from the noise of Lamai beach road Great views from breakfast or one of the hammocks Could do better Possibly the accommodation could be a little updated, not a biggie as it feels part of the theme Internet access- expensive and not fast Bugs- make sure you have nets and sprays I would advise requesting a place near the pool, a couple of places had great views of the bay, ours didn't. I had seen criticism of the breakfast but I enjoyed it and the surroundings are exceptionally pretty compared to most places We got caught out with 3 days of rain, not the resorts fault but in the event of a deluge the hotel and Samui itself struggle to entertain kids- more a footnote. Thanks Varinda we had a lovely stay and will recommend.
We have never felt so welcome as in the Varinda resort. They welcomed us like we were old friends. We came to look at the viewpoint and we rescheduled our trip to stay there for a few days. The pool is great! Watching over Lamai with a beer in your hand.
I have stayed in many hotels over the years and very few leave a lasting impression, the Varinda is one of them that does. When you look at the pictures on TripAdvisor or FB they don't do it justice individually they look good but taken as a whole the Varinda is a work of art ,by a very talented family, all set in a lovely garden. I had originally planned on staying here for a week or two but ended up staying a little over a month it has a stunning view over Lamai (which is a 10 min walk away) along with other beautiful views to the north, south and east of Samui, easy access to the beach, all rooms are different and very individual (the ones I saw that is), great food, lovely staff added to the unique beauty of the place. The pool area is stunning and you can watch the world go by from the infinity pool overlooking Lamai. This is a hotel to kick back and relax in very comfortable setting with an really nice and quirky atmosphere. The owners are extremely pleasant and I would highly recommend staying here, it deserves all 5 stars and more I love the place!
We stayed at the Varinda Garden Resort in Koi Samui for 3 days. The bungalows are set in a jungle garden which is really beautiful. The resort has wonderful views as it on a hill overlooking the sea. The walk to the beach is down steep steps which was interesting. Each bungalow was private with a lovely balcony to view the garden. It rained the whole time we were in Kho Samui so the resort was a good place to hang out. It is eccentric with loads of interesting stuff around & positive sayings written on things. The pool area looked great even though I didn't go swimming. The breakfast was good located in a wonderful dining area, with friendly staff. My one negative was the room. It was musty & felt like it needed a good airing & clean. For the owners to improve I have made suggestions 1: take out the heavy curtains in the bungalow because they make it smell musty - put up blinds 2: take out all unnecessary furniture - keep it minimal 3: scrub the wall because they have mould ( not good) 4: paint the rooms white 5: scrub the bathroom properly 6: new bathroom towels are needed 7: make sure bedding is cleaned for new guests 8: put fly screens on windows so mozzies don't come in 9: improve internet. It should be free these days. To pay extra is bad news.
