Great place . Room with a view of the castle and the Rhine was a gift for the soul. Attentive reception, had considered my request , which was at the time of the reservation and we were given a room with the best view! On-site a sufficient number of Parking spaces. Good Breakfast .Nice pool with plenty of towels!!! But I would like to upgrade the territory steam. But, overall, very cozy place.
Positive impression first. Even before reaching the hotel we enjoyed driving the winding road leading to it. The location of the hotel on a mountain overlooking the Rhein valley is truly magnificent. We enjoyed having our breakfast with a view on Schloss Drachenburg. The breakfast was excellent with a large selection of food and beverages, and the staff took good care of us and our wishes. Our room overlooking a park was clean, light and warm, which was really nice since it was really chilly outside although it was April. Now, unfortunately, negative aspects of our stay. First, 6€/day for outdoor parking is just too much (no valet service, btw). Second, except for the green apples served there, the wellness area was disappointing. The temperature in the Finnish sauna (which was also very small) dropped after 30 min of our stay in the wellness area, and it was fixed only after one of the guests complained to the receptionist. What is more, the Roman steam bath was completely out of service. In general, the hotel looks rather dated and even run-down in some places. Nowadays, when flat screen TVs are available even in the low category hotels it is strange to see an old box-shaped TV set in a supposedly five-star hotel. The bathroom in our room was clean and spacious but there were two problems. 1) The shower head could not be adjusted at the right height. 2) There was no way to plug a hair dryer into a socket and still be able to see yourself in the mirror. My overall conclusion is that our stay at this hotel was a rather poor experience and was not worth the money we paid. Apparently, the hotel is a popular venue for private celebrations and corporate events, and for good reason I guess. The hotel’s history as a former government guesthouse and its magnificent location will for sure impress the partners/clients/employees/guests attending an event. But for a regular stay I would not recommend this place to anyone. From my personal experience, it was not a five-star hotel experience – “Grand” should be removed from the name.
We booked the hotel for 3days Half Pension - 2 nights and had a wonderful experience , super hotel - friendly personal - very good food - marvelous room and wellness . Gastronomic food . The region is very beautiful - book a room with view over the Rhine - so beautiful.
Quality of service and food is excellent. The room was amazing & the bed of top quality ! Location is perfect for who want to enjoy a view over the Rhine river, and be next door to the city center. We will certainly come back as soon as we can. Best
Marvelous stay, made possible by the professional and kind service of the staff. I stayed here for 3 nights during the Easter break with my partner and family. We all enjoyed out time in this hotel a lot. The service make this hotel a true 5-star hotel, even though some parts of the hotel are a bit old. Upgraded Deluxe rooms with a view are definitely recommendable; spacious and nicely renovated. We look forward to hear when the cigar lounge is ready next year and would be happy to come back to experience that extra facility to come. Only tip: Please make it possible for customers to order drinks/snacks/food in the pool area, now there was only a water tank and it was not even possible to order a coffee.
Nice hotel, well located, good quality of rooms and excellent service at reception desk. For the restaurant, service was very slow despite very few clients, and offer on the menu is very limited. Spa is disappointing.
This former "Camp David" hotel has a unique situation above the Rhine with unlimited views from all sides; The building itself is enormous with all kinds of salons and surounding gardens. We had an upgrde to a marvelous suite, but the furniture in the sitting room was a little tired: seats covered with not so fresh looking fabric, and a small plastic cube tv set from the seventies. The place looks quite desert(only a few guests were there), which makes it look a bit sad. It seems that in the summer period, lots of visitors from the neighbouring city of Bonn come to the terrace café to enjoy the view with a cup of coffee. The whole establisment gives more a feeling of a museum than a real hotel.
I took an important customer group to the Steigenberger Petersberg Rheinterrasse Restaurant. Great setting, very attentive service a great wine list and excellent food. Unfortunately it will be closed for renovation soon, but I am sure it will be even more splendid when it reopens. Definitely a location I will take customers again.
Wonderful old fashioned Hotel with very good trained staff and very friendly atmosphere. We all arrived from the US and different parts of Europe and the Party was perfectly arranged, the table festively set and the good delicious. The whole hotel needs some updating, but was never lacking any comfort, would go again!
Overall a mixed experience. Excellent location, Location, wonderful and unforgettable view of Schloss Drachenburg and the Rhine valley (from the upgraded room), amazing breakfast with a very wide choice and drinks included (also including a honey in honeycomb which looks really cool! I also loved the salmon and croissants), floor heating in the bathroom, friendly staff. Overall the hotel is very impressive, radiating history and with a number of very picturesque locations (e.g. the fireplace room). Already the winding road to the hotel through the woods is very impressive and atmospheric. The standard room was rather small and with a dated TV. The very expensive dinner was a rather average experience and definitely not a good value for money - staff were clearly inexperienced, some dishes were overly salty (guinea fowl, ice-cream), and the brownie was rather heavy and tough. Also the wellness facilities were hardly impressive (but seem to be undergoing renovation). Some of the watches and jewelry in display cases were rather on the cheap side which did not add to the overall luxurious atmosphere.
