I just wrapped up my third stay at the Cranky Crow in Kodiak, and as usual, I left a happy customer. This time around, I stayed in one of the newly remodeled queen suites, outfitted with its own bathroom. Cable and wifi were included in room, and there is also a big living room with a massage chair where you can mingle with other guests and talk about the local experiences everyone is having. Breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches were available each of my 5 days there, as were some more traditional breakfast items like pancakes and cereal. Stephanie and Jon have a nice place there, very welcoming with a "home away from home" feel. In my opinion, a much better experience than staying at one of the local hotels. If I make it back to Kodiak, I will definitely be staying at the Cranky Crow again.
Out of all my stays on Kodiak, this was by far the best. The owner, Stefanie, is the BEST. She keeps her place clean and homey for your stay. The location was right down the road from downtown, making everything around accessible. I wouldn't choose anywhere else to stay but here!!
I stayed the Cranky Crow Bed & Breakfast for most of the month of June '17. Stephanie, the owner, was more than helpful with my extended time away from home. The different array of breakfast items were all delicious! She made sure that if you did not care for a particular dish to let her know and she would be more than happy to accommodate the next day with something of your liking. The facilities were always immaculate. There was plenty of local reading material to assist you with hikes, tours, fishing, etc. All in all I was extremely pleased with my stay and would highly recommend the Cranky Crow Bed & Breakfast to anyone visiting Kodiak!
Stephanie was very good about giving us a tour of the place, and her breakfasts were good; she prepared individual servings of breakfast food such as burritos and put them on the counter or in refrigerator for each guest, which worked well. She also was a life-saver when we had problems with our rental car. My only beef was the room. It was just off the kitchen so little privacy and it was very cramped, and we had to share a bathroom at the other end of the floor. I guess there are two larger (one or two with private bath) and the two smaller ones, but I did not know there was a choice and I do not know if they are all the same price.
We stayed at the Cranky Crow in mid-June and it was great! Stephanie is so kind and full of local knowledge. The space was comfortable and centrally located. Breakfasts were satisfying and the homemade cookies are necessary!
I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a comfortable stay to check out the Cranky Crow. The breakfast burrito was perfect and a great variety of coffee to go with it. The owner was very helpful over the phone before my trip and checked in on my arrival when the Ferry was running late.
Cranky Crow's front end advertisement and follow up letter suggest an interest in its guests that was not demonstrated during our stay. While the room was clean and neat there was never any room makeover during a 3 day stay. We have stayed at over 30 B&B 's in our travels and never experienced such a complete lack of interest in their guests--we had no orientation to facilities --no suggestions of things to do on Kodiak Island and the "breakfast " was iconic of the complete disinterest in the guests well being --there is excellent coffee on the Kodiak Island and the coffee available at Cranky Crow was of embarrassingly poor quality-- The only reason we ever "met" the proprietor was I re entered the kitchen to wash my hands before departing for the Airport--the one phone conversation we had was brief and almost perfunctory as the owner texted me the code to get in the kitchen --we had no idea where we were permitted to go --we had no idea who the multiple young men were in the living room -- A B&B by definition offers an warm and receptive interface to its guests and some simple fresh tidbit for breakfast with real coffee -- Saran-wrap burritos in the icebox, a fruit "parfait " made the night before and some half consumed cereal boxes underline the indifference that the Cranky Crow had for our stay !
We arrived to a warm welcome by Stephanie! She explained the operation of her premises with ease and attention to detail. She had thought of everything! Loved our room, which was simple yet inviting with pictures of Kodiak bears! She even asked if we had food allergies! Breakfasts were easy and prepared....all we had to do was to microwave. Perfect! We were asked what we would like to see and were told where to find some highlights of the island. Ease of access and plenty of parking. Kodiak is well represented by Stephanie and the Cranky Crow! Would highly recommend this B & B to all. Hope to have an opportunity to visit again! Wonderful!
I stayed a the Cranky Crow for a few days before departing for a summer job on a near by Island. Stephanie is very helpful to point my in the right direction. I was on foot for my visit. Not to worry, the B&B is centrally located on the island. I was able to walk downtown in about 25 minutes and was also able to make it all the way to Fort Abercrombie in about 1.5 hours. The Crow is very comfortable and well set up to explore Kodiak.
Got stranded in kodiak for two days. Stayed at the cranky crow one of this nights. Host was kind, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed for the night. Made delicious pancakes for breakfast. Had a great time and would go back again
