We enjoyed our stop over on our way to the North. Good four star hotel and food, friendly staff. We didn't use the spa as it was very busy. The village of Knaresborough is very pretty - it would have been nice to stay a little longer at this hotel as the town is worth a visit.
We started with a treatment and spa, very relaxing. The staff in the spa are warm and welcoming. The treatments were restful. The hotel staff are are also welcoming and polite. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The evening meal was plentiful (not too much) and very well cooked as was the breakfast. All in all a lovely stay, would recommend this place to anyone.
After reading reviews on Trip Advisor about this hotel we booked it for a week and then I called to ask for a quiet room that had been renovated. We met up with family who also stayed there. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the ensuites are lovely. All of the staff where extremely helpful and friendly and made the stay even better - they are all a credit to the hotel. Breakfasts were excellent - although we opted for Continental the rest of the family went for full english and it was enjoyed by everyone. The location, at the end of the High Street was perfect for walking into town and for exploring other towns/villages in Yorkshire - try Harrogate and Haworth which are all within easy reach and also use Knaresborough train station to get into York in 20 minutes straight to the centre of York. Many thanks for a lovely weeks stay.
Visited today with my sister, we have been before and some little areas looking a bit dated, however a very pleasant few hours in the pool, sauna, whirlpool etc was had, hats off to the chef who provided a very delicious gluten free afternoon tea, I can't speak for the hotel but the spa is fantastic and lovely staff
We have just returned from a four-night break to the Dower House and have already booked a return visit. The staff are friendly and welcoming and our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and quiet location above the spa. We dined in the restaurant on two evenings and the food was excellent; my husband had the duck and said it was the best he had ever tasted. Both the restaurant and bar menus offer a good choice, including vegetarian options; and the breakfast is likewise very good, with an ample cold buffet and hot food freshly cooked to order.
This hotel would benefit from a wedding planner who listens to what is required and then puts the plans into action, instead of making assumptions. The hotel manager is arrogant and all he wanted to do was blame anyone but himself for problems that were brought to his attention, the master of ceremonies at the wedding was more like a bouncer in a night club, he was extremely rude to a number of guests. The remaining staff were very pleasant. The hotel manager thought it a good idea to put the groom’s family in the far corner of the conservatory; we were unable to see the bridal party and had to stand at the back of the room to be able to hear the speeches. Coffee was suppose to be provided, they seemed to think it was acceptable to just put a stack of cups in the bar area, I had to ask for a coffee and a small cafetiere was provided. We booked a larger, more expensive room, this was not particularly clean, there was 2 panes of glass in the window of the bathroom which had slipped down in the frame, the heater fell off the wall on a number of occasions and we had to put it back. To make a drink you had to get on your hands and knees to get under the dressing table to plug the kettle in, there were no other visible plugs that we could use. The room was very noisy from the traffic outside. The hotel rooms are very quirky, which is a feature we liked when we looked at the hotel prior to booking for the wedding, having said that the room we stayed in certainly needs upgrading. On a positive note the food was good. Would I stay here again, not likely. I would not recommend it for a wedding venue.
Stayed for a couple of nights at end of July. Arrived slightly early and found room not yet ready, as having a wedding the day before, they had been v busy making up all the rooms. Receptionist offered to store luggage. Room quite comfortable (room 7), but not for the infirm, as steps into room and into bathroom. Had a minor problem with bathroom door, would not lock. Told receptionist wen we went down for breakfast. When we returned that evening, door fixed. Good selection of food for breakfasts, and prob best porridge I have had in a hotel to date.
We had our wedding reception here last week. The bbq was lovely and the room was set out as we wanted. That was the good part, now the bad. My parents were put in an outbuilding even though they had booked their room 7 months in advice due to my dads disabilities. The room was given to an abled bodied couple and no other explaination offered. On the night of our wedding we were put in a damp dingey room and our bridal suite was given away to one of our guests, again no explaination offered. The master of ceremonies was rude to an elderly aunt and was rude to me on my wedding day! Think twice before choosing this venue, i now have tarnished memories of our special day.
Hotel is average, food reasonable but the Wedding Planner (AKA General Manager) is quite possibly incompetent. Poor communications prior to the event, schedule of events not adhered too, promises not kept. Not enough staff to get food out in reasonable time and man the bar. An exploding cafetière at breakfast causing ruined clothes and scalding was met with no concern or any responsibility from him - total apathy. I've used Best Western for years but this is slipping through the net. If average with high bar bills is acceptable - go for it. I would however suggest taking your wedding celebrations elsewhere.
The hotel is a Victorian Manor House. We upgraded to a larger room and all the bedrooms are certainly in keeping with the style of the hotel. All the staff were very professional and welcoming. The usual breakfast fayre was on offer with the bonus of a freshly cooked breakfast and the service was excellant. The only downside to our visit was that the indoor pool was cold, we commented on this and were told that a separate company were responsible for the leisure facillities. Overall, we would stay here again.
