Icelandair Hotel Klaustur

This was the third Icelandair hotel we had stayed in on our trip and it was way below the other two in standards. The room (101 - this might or might not be significant!) was very small with no shelf space at all. We had to use the window ledges to store our stuff. There was no conditioner in the shower, which did not hold its heat constantly. A bolt fell off the chair when I sat on it and even the loo seat was flimsier than the other hotels. They also messed up our booking. We had booked for two nights so we could drive up to the Laki craters - and had the voucher to prove it but they only had us down for one night which seemed to throw them, probably because the hotel seems mostly to cater for massive tour busses rather than independent travellers. The second night in particular was thronging so that unless you wanted to eat at what we consider to be children's hour, it was difficult to get a table in the restaurant. When you consider independent travellers are probably paying considerably more than groups, the service left a lot to be desired.

Very pleasant and clean hotel. They made a mistake with our reservation re gave us a queen instead of the twins we had requested, but comped us a bit. Excellent breakfast. Good location. We didn't eat in the hotel but it seemed to have a reasonable menu.

We stayed at this quietly located modern hotel for just one night during a round island coach tour. Most of the sleeping accommodation is located in 3 long single storey buildings emanating from the main hotel structure. Our clean, well prepared room in one of these buildings was a decent size and enjoyed comfortable beds, ample storage hanging space, tea & coffee making facilities, good free Wifi and a large TV. There were no electrical sockets at the bedside for mobile phones etc. The main shortcoming was that the room desperately needed net curtains as our windows looked straight into others (also with no net curtains). These accommodation buildings did have a prefabricated feel; the sound insulation was so poor that we could hear guests in next rooms. The en-suite bathroom had a nice walk-in shower, wall mounted soaps, hairdryer, only let down by worn out thin towels. I thought that set meal dinner was first class; however, my wife did not like the main course. An alternative was offered instantly and served quickly, we were very impressed. Breakfast was mostly cold buffet with a little hot food; there was no fresh or tinned fruit on offer. There is a nice waterfall an easy 10 minutes stroll from the hotel. This is a good place for one or two nights.

This hotel was a good pick for our 2 night day when visiting southern Iceland. It's in a small town that has some good hiking/walking trails, a grocery store, and a couple of restaurants. The hiking trails were fun to explore at night ... there is a waterfall just a short walk away. The hotel property has excellent public areas ... the lobby is open and airy with lots of seating and windows, and there is a small bar connected to the restaurant. Everything in the public space has an open and modern feel. The rooms are very clean. Furniture is basic but comfortable. Our bathroom had a bathtub, but our kids stayed in a room next door that had only a shower. Beds are twin size but made up as a double bed. My kids wanted to separate the beds and the front desk provided us with sheets to do so. The hotel is not air conditioned and does not provide fans. Bring a small fan to help with air circulation and/or white noise. The curtains let light in, which made sleeping a little difficult for some members of our group. We wish we had brought eye masks. The hotel restaurant is very good for dinner; we liked the Arctic char and the cod. Systrakaffi just down the road is fantastic for a casual dinner. The hotel staff is extremely friendly; in particular, Jenny at the front desk was very helpful. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and recommend it!

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Simple, but modern hotel. Friendly staff, and a great restaurant and bar. Locitane toiletries . And windows that open to let the fresh air in (in summer) Recommended!

Stayed here 1 night on our way around the ring road. Breakfast was not included so we made our own. No other than places for breakfast so not much choice. Room was clean. Again like most hotels in Iceland 2 single beds. There is a very nice waterfall 2 min walk up the road from the hotel. Beside the waterfall their is a nice hiking trail that leads up a mountain where there are 2 lakes and a beautiful view of the area. Also their is a canyon nearby that is out of this world.

There were product dispensers in the bathroom with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The room did have a hair dryer, the shower was extremely small, the whole bathroom got wet during a shower. There was not a no refrigerator in our room. Very small town, there is a little restaurant within walking distance - the only other food option than the hotel restaurant. There is a liquor store within walking distance. Several options for gasoline nearby, one of the gas stations had a small cafe, convenience store in it.

The IcelandAir Hotel Klauster is a new modern hotel. It is just out of town but still in a good position. We were efficiently checked in and our room 211 is on the first floor. There is a lift so no problem with luggage. The room is clean and a good size, enough to lay out luggage and still have space. The bed is twin with 2 singles pushed together. The bed is comfortable, as are the pillows. There is no airconditioning, which isn’t needed. There is a flat screen TV with very limited channels. WiFi is free but unsecured. We were lucky and had a bathroom with a bath. The bathroom is a good size with a bath/shower (good heat & pressure).

I stayed one night here during a recent tour of Iceland. Location: There's not much to Kirkjubaejarklaustur, but it's a handy place to take a break on Iceland's south coast. The weather was very rough when I travelled this bit of the Ring Road, so the pause was doubly welcome. Building: The building looks rather spartan from the outside. Reception: The staff here were a bit more formal than I had by now got used to in Iceland. Perfectly friendly and quick though. Accommodation: My room was rather small and spartan, the bathroom likewise. Comfortable and warm enough though and a reasonable view. Food and drink: Dinner and breakfast were both fine, with good service. All in all, an OK place to recover from a long drive.

We really liked the ambiance at this hotel. Although our room was small, it was very comfortable. The shower was great, and the bed was very comfortable. The happy hour let us afford some decent wine in their bar area. We loved the feel of it and the decor. Dinner was very good in their restaurant, as was breakfast. We would stay here again!!
