Killarney Royal Hotel

Recent guest reviews

I have read some of the other reviews and if guests thought this was a 4 or 5 star then they must have got a much nicer room than we had during our 2-night stay this week. Our room was very worn and although large, had very little furniture. Very dismal and nothing like the website pictures of the rooms - and this was a deluxe??? The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable and we were given a noisy room facing the street. The atmosphere is more like a B&B. The only pluses were the courteous staff. Would NOT return here or recommend.

This hotel has so much history. It basically feels like you are in another time when you stay here. Everyone is so kind, the room and hotel is cozy and clean and since there are only 30 rooms in the hotel you get the full attention of the staff. Few minutes walking and your right where you need to be for all the pubs restaurant and not too far from Killarney park. I have to also boast about how helpful the security guard John was. He talk to us and gave us so many tips on where to go and helped our trip turn out amazing. I would stay here again in a heart beat. Thank you for having us!

This place is really, really special. Top-notch everything. Clean, warm, friendly... I could go on and on. The whole stay was like a pleasant dream. From check in, to the super comfy bed, to the beautiful marble bathroom, to the delicious buffet breakfast and our new friend, "John". John took time to talk to us, ask us where we were going, then gave us insider tips to make our Ring of Kerry tour even better. We stayed 2 nights and was so sorry to have to leave. Honestly, I could have stayed just in their cozy lobby for at least a week. I MUST go back there to do just that. I can't wait!

Wonderful hotel in a great location ,beautiful guest room and lovely food but the best thing about the hotel and what makes it truly Royal is the staff, nothing is to much trouble and we will be back soon !!!!!

We had the opportunity of staying in this hotel for 3 nights while in Killarney during March 2018. The town is great and the nearby sites awesome. The hotel offers parking, however, it is not close by, especially in the rain. Parking is offered at the sister hotel, The Southern. The room was dated, but clean and a good size. Two out of the the 3 days we did not have wash cloths. The shower did not have a designated space for soap or shampoo, except the floor. There was no tub. The breakfast was good and had quite the variety. Some of the wait staff was good and one particular girl just did not follow through with anything we asked for, with no explanation. The location however is great, right in the heart of the town. So, my overall opinion is that the hotel is okay but I would not stay here again.

This hotel is in a great location, just across the road from the railway station, main Street is just a couple of minutes away. Parking is available in their sister site just across the road, also use of the leisure at the same site. Rooms are excellent no detail overlooked. Service is excellent. Food is excellent. The staff couldn't be more helpful or attentive. This hotel is very much in the score bracket of 10+. Would recommend it to anyone going to Killarney.

My girlfriend and I were celebrating our 60th birthdays and we were booked for 2 nights the very end of February. From the moment we arrived after finding that little spot in front of the hotel, we were made to feel at home. As American drivers,, we weren't sure where to park so we pulled into the space out front and ran in. Maura (not sure on spelling) greeted us and said to relax. She told me we could park at their sister hotel (Great southern) that was 3 blocks away so I moved the car while my friend got us checked in. Our room was quite lovely and big for European standards. Plenty of room for our luggage and clothes, the bathroom was large with 2 sinks and it was updated but still keeping to the time of the hotel. The beds were comfortable and lighting was good. We were on floor one so our view was slightly below the street we looked out onto but being on the first floor meant we could take the stairs to easily get to our room. The staff is the most amazing and I wish I could remember more names. Billy is one of the managers and was running the restaurant/bar most evenings and was around most days. He treated us so special when I said it was our birthdays by bringing us glasses of champagne and then a special birthday desert plate with Happy Birthday written around the plate. It was a fabulous way to turn 60. Everyone that worked there was super nice as are all Irish but they went above and beyond. We were supposed to leave the next day but the snow was falling north of us and we didn't want to drive anymore so we returned our car and hoped to leave the next day by train or bus. Well, Ireland basically shut down as it was a huge snowstorm, first in 35 years.. Although Killarney didn't get snow til the following day, everywhere else was closed. They worked with our travel agent to get our accommodations changed and made sure we knew we were welcome to stay. But I can honestly say that I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. We mostly sat in the lobby by the fire which was always kept roaring with coal. We were attended to with offers of tea or drinks, Irish Coffee, we talked with others who also couldn't leave, we read books and made the most of it. The town shops were closed most of the extra days so it was nice to be in such a welcoming place. Whoever was working at the time was always checking in on us and also helping us check for transportation options to get us back to Dublin. After 2 days of thinking the trains would open only to be disappointed again, we determined there might be a bus leaving for Cork at 2:30 where we could then get a bus to Dublin. It was 2:23 when we decided this might be a viable option and Amanda (front desk) spoke with one of the young men working there (whose name I really really wish I could remember) and asked him to help us get to the bus station , about 3 blocks. Without an overcoat, he grabbed our 2 big bags by their handles and we started to run through the slush to get to the bus and he held it until we caught up. I could only hug him and thank him and promise to be back again in better weather. Thanks Amanda for being so fabulous. We were able to catch a 6:00 train out of Cork and made it to Dublin before 10 PM. That wouldn't have happened without the hotel staff. The food was also very good. Breakfast is in a separate room each morning and even when we were late, they served us.

Quaint hotel in the heart of Killarney! Nice rooms, good food, super location. The best part is the staff!! They are so friendly and willing to do whatever to ensure your visit is enjoyable. They remember your names and always take a few minutes to chat. We will certainly stay here again.

Only 900 feet from the town's railway station this property is ideally located for seeing the town of Killarney. We had a breakfast included package and it was excellent. The staff is very professional and most of the staff have been here a long time. I must single out for special mention John who has been here over 30 years. He is a pleasure to meet and will take care of your every need while working long hours. If you want to visit local bars and restaurants this is the place to be. We would definitely return.

I dealt with Nuala and she was absolutely amazing, but all the staff were so helpful also. We hired the function room for our activity and nothing was a problem for them. They set up the room beautifully. We also had afternoon tea for lunch and it was gorgeous. We were all so stuffed. Definitely the nicest afternoon tea I’ve ever had. We also stayed overnight and the rooms were so beautiful and comfortable, plenty of room for girls getting ready for a night out and the bathroom was huge with a lovely double sink. It was the nicest bed I’ve ever slept in. And then breakfast the next morning was also brilliant. I cannot say a bad thing about this hotel. Great value for money too considering it is right in the middle of killarney. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in killarney.
