Recently my wife and I stayed at Cahernane House, Killarney. I can say that Cahernane House brings Irish Hospitality to a new level. The beautiful decor & wood burning fireplaces in the entrance hall is beautiful. The five course evening Dinner with beautiful food elegantly served and with nutrition in mind. The bedrooms are beautiful and the sense of tranquility & serenity throughout cannot be expressed in words. This tranquility is alive not only in evening time but also in the mornings where after having breakfast ( diverse menu from Traditional Irish to Seafood to Omlette or European) you can sit around in one of the many rooms with wood burning fires and read the papers and chat with the informed staff who are delighted to help you with your travels through the countryside. The management & staff are one family , caring for you from the heart doing everything they can do for the guests . Marian, Guest Relations is exceptional as is Emer, General Manager. Being from Ireland and now living in USA this was & will remain such a memorable experience and these people really set the bench mark for Irish Hospitality.
We have stayed in the Cahernane hotel for quite a few years for the Ring Of Kerry Charity Cycle, this year on our return the bedrooms had been refurbished to such a high standard and still retains it quaint relaxed atmosphere. The staff are so helpful and attentive. Breakfast was delicious and service was excellent. Looking forward already to our return next year. Many hotels are identical and characterless and impersonal but the Cahernane is such an enjoyable experience.
This is a beautiful hotel in a peaceful location with wonderful country views. The staff is excellent and very hospitable. The rooms are fabulous and the food is awesome. It's a very relaxing place for a break.
We booked a room and dinner and was very thankful that we were notified early that the restaurant would not be open so they offered us other options. Our welcome was welcoming when we arrived and our room was even upgraded due to the change in reservations. We enjoyed our stay and although it was a bit disappointing to not get to eat at the restaurant they were very accommodating and gave us advance notice which allowed us to be prepared.
The grounds are beautiful, the scenery was breathtaking from my bedroom window. It was close to everything you would want to do. Great lounge with a fully stocked bar (naturally). The service was friendly, the room was huge, and the bathrooms were great. Loved having such a large shower and my wife loved soaking in the tub. Everything you could expect and more. The picture is from the bedroom window.
I so needed just a little time away from a busy schedule and Cahernane House Hotel was just wonderful. We were greeted so warmly and professionally by Mary at reception. The old part of the house is just beautiful and our room was spacious with a balcony and best of all, a Nespresso coffee machine! There are plenty of pretty rooms to relax in and the location is so very beautiful and close to vibrant Killarney town and the fabulous national park. The breakfast was served in the newly refurbished dining area and I love that you choose from a menu of good variety as well as continental style also being available. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I can't remember all the names, but Aileen in particular provided us with exceptional service. The hotel has a wonderful feel and the staff are to be commended on their service. The best four star we have stayed in in years! We would highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Absolutely fantastic from the moment I arrived to the morning of leaving the staf where fantastic the rooms in the new wing were very spacious and you had French windows that opened out on to a patio or a balcony dinner was great meat cooked to perfection hotel is about 15 minutes walk to town centre but the views of the lower lake were to die for would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Killarney
Spent 4 days in Cahernane while attending a wedding. Staff excellent and very friendly always available to help. Room on top floor beautifully decorated but a bit small for the price. Breakfast was very well presented but toast and selection if bread was in very short supply. Service was goid. Did not have dinner on site very expensive. Had lunch in bar and food was excellent. Decoration of hotel and views were excelleny. Enjoyed our stay.
The Cahernan keeps itself hidden down a driveway off the Muckross Road. It is a classic Big House with a long history attached to it and filled with lovely antique furniture, fittings and features. We were welcomed by the staff and shown to our room which had a welcome card in it also.Because of the nature of this house you must be prepared for steps and turns and even though there was a lift you still had to negotiate several steps. All the rooms have names and numbers and ours was the Townsend Room at the top of the house beneath the eaves. The room was large and airy though some space was lost by the sloping ceiling most of that was taken up with antique dressers and chests of drawers. A semi corridor led to the spacious bathroom with a huge freestanding bath and a separate shower room. The bed was huge and comfortable and the room was fitted with a large flat screen TV (that we never got to turn on!). It was a very pleasant space the only issues being that the sloping window was difficult to fully black out at night and morning light crept in. The shower also was a bit of a mystery in terms of control and the best we could do was get tepid water out of it. I'm sure that has a simple solution. Again given the nature of the house very tall people might have to duck to get out of the room door and reach the sloping ceiling sooner than us. Breakfast was served in the Dining Room and was a mixture of Continental Buffet and the Full Irish cooked to order and served to your table. It was lovely and there was a nice touch of the tiered cake plates to serve the toast, jams and pastries. Dinner was also in the Dining Room but at €50 we felt it was a touch too expensive especially as we had been at a wedding feast the day before. So while I am sure it would have been sumptuous we can't comment on it. We did have early bird dinner in the Dromhill nearby for half that amount and that was very pleasant. You can avail of their free bikes (and helmets) and explore around the area but we deferred on this opportunity but it is a nice addition. Overall a stay in the Cahernan is a delightful prospect and it is a hotel well worth seeking out if you like historical buildings and boutique style. I certainly would stay there again.
We spent two weeks in England and Ireland, and did a lot of research beforehand as we really enjoy a lovely boutique hotel experience. Unfortunately, this was the only disappointment we had on our trip. The hotel staff here was excellent - so friendly, helpful and proud to work there. They were quick to arrange a jaunting carriage ride for us to Muckross House, which we loved. And the grounds of the hotel are a nice break from the busy road it resides on and the hustle and bustle of busy Killarney. So, why were we disappointed? The photos on the website make this facility look much nicer than it is. I understand it was purchased a year ago. I hope the new owners will invest in the care of the building itself as it is very worn and dated. The beds are clean and comfortable, and the dining room had good food and service, but the actual rooms themselves are just not where they should be for a facility at this cost and rating. The carpets and walls need care, the decor needs better arranging, and it could be cleanier and better maintained (many dead flies in the atrium, bathroom floor was stuck on heat, furniture had stains, etc.). I hope it gets some love soon and can live up to its reputation.
