The hotel had beautiful grounds, across from a mall, and was clean but no air conditioning which made it miserable! Most staff were not helpful…no knowledge of anything in the area. They didn't clean all week yet charged $140 when we left to clean. It should be included int he price!
This was our second stay at Kiahuna. The last time was 10 years ago. The facility is still in excellent condition. Our unit had recently been upgraded. We like to Kiahuna because of its proximity to the Sheridan Beach which we consider to be the best swimming beach on the island. We'll be back.
Our stay at the Kiahuna Plantation Resort by Outrigger far exceeded our expectations. We truly felt like it was our home away from home. Our condo was clean and cozy, the staff was professional and friendly, and you cannot beat the location. I would recommend this establishment to my friends and family.
Pros: Excellent location and great value. The grounds are well manicured and the beach is spectacular. Pool is across the street and a few minutes walk. Walking distance to some nice restrauants, shopping and Starbucks. Cons: There is no a/c which probably isn't usually an issue with the trade winds. Unfortunately it was above average temps and humid while we were there which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. Our unit was a bit outdated - ripped sofa. Bed linens could use updating (they had an odor). Mildew throughout shower.
I suspect this resort can be really great or really average depending on what and where your unit is. Could be really nice up by ocean but was pretty noisy near back part of resort where our unit was and unit was in just OK shape. 1BR units don't have much privacy in the BR if kids are in the living room. Our unit was not updated and could really use some TLC. Though nothing was terrible, for what you can get these days on various timeshare rental sites, this was not a great deal.
Clean with great beach for swimming or snorkeling. Private, quiet and relaxing. Great value.
Great location to beach and the island in general. Condo had a great bed. No beach toys however so I left them a boogey board and some tubes.
We stayed at Kiahuna Plantation 14 years ago and my recollection was that is was quite nice. We had access to the pool at the Sheraton back then. Now, no pool access!!! Bathroom yucky after a few days. Smelled moldy, full of sand and water, hard to clean. They should really clean EVERY room mid week if you are staying more than 7 nights. Also disliked all shuttered interior and exterior doors. No privacy in unit (e.g. master bedroom and bathroom). Maybe because we had flash flood warnings coming in on our cell phones 2 of the days, but it was super humid/wet in the unit. Honestly, will stay at Marriott next door next time. Yes, beach location good. But we were in garden view, so super far from beach.
For facility and amenities, the property is overpriced. No daily housekeeping, (while on vacation I don't want to have to pick up and do the dishes. We didn't realize this and then spent 4 days dealing with sand. They will bring you fresh towels if you call and ask) Beach front hotel ?? (our room was a 3 block walk to the beach) No pool, no on-site breakfast or lunch facility. No air conditioning. This was huge for us, but I know a few folks who would have been uncomfortable. This is a owner/rented condo facility managed by the Outrigger Corp. On the plus side: The grounds are lovely and well cared for and situated on PoiPo road, it is a good location. Across from the shopping village and a few dining spots.
Room was farawey from ocean, too close to street and night traffic. For money we paid I expected more. Otherwise staff was very frendly
We went to Kauai to visit our Grandkids, so we weren't looking for a luxurious place just a clean family place to relax on the beach. The grounds were pleasant, full of flowers and nice landscaping. Didn't use the restaurant at all so can't speak to that. Just a nice place to enjoy the Grandkids and take them zip lining, movies, shopping, eating out. Checking in and out went well so the staff were helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed our trip and would go back again. Thank you Donna and Ron Alt
We stayed a week here in Sept '13. The grounds are indeed beautiful and quite extensive. There are a number of 2 and 3 story "cottages" sprinklers about and location is everything. Pay for an ocean view otherwise you may end up at the edge of the property like we did and have the noisy parking lot and busy street to listen to all night. They don't give you much extra. Coffee is $1 a pack-only 2 packs are complimentary. They did not clean at all but did give us a towel exchange once during the week so conserve your towels! If you want shampoo , conditioner and soap that actually lathers then bring your own. The room itself was nice, large and airy and fully stocked but I was bothered by no A/C ,I know now that a humid climate is not my friend. The worst problem was the lack of a pool. I asked for a room upgrade as compensation and was denied. I will not stay in a place without a pool again. The beach was nice but the waves were a little rough-not calm at all. If it had A/C and a pool I would stay again but not until.
Great place to stay, lots of nearby activities to do, great beach, facility, and staff too.
Beautiful hotel grounds with lots of plants and trees. Spacious room with kitchen, separate bedroom, balcony and lovely beach. Swimming pool was nicely landscape with a waterslide, but was quite a distance away, however it was never crowded. On a down side, the only problems we encountered were the roosters crowing from 3 AM till noon and nasty mosquitos (wear long pants and long sleeves in the evening)
I loved this place. Great location, clean and friendly. Can't beat it for the price. I'd definitely stay here again.
Loved our little spot..comfortable..great location, wonderful, helpful, friendly staff, ..would have preferred ocean views and a little quieter area..as ours was across from the staff maintenance area and some days quite noisy... Would definitely recommend Outrigger to friends and family for a lengthy stay, as ours was... One improvement would be not have shutters between living area and bedroom as noise carries..otherwise..all was good. Reception was extremely helpful and we would highly recommend Michael at the concierge desk..tall Michael from San Diego.
We repeatedly stay at the Kiahuna Plantation due to the great location, friendly staff, and economical value. Stop by Costco and the local supermarket for food and drinks. Then go to the farmers market for veggies and fruit. You save TONS of money cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner as the condo has everything you need to prepare food. We bring our own spices and dry goods and eat like royalty! We also go to dinner or lunch when we dont feel like cookin. We bring our own drinks to the beach too...so much fun. Take the money you save and take a Na Pali coast tour or whateva you like!
We have been on many vacations and this vacation was not one of the better ones, mainly due to the stay at the Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation. The place was hot, no air conditioning, and noisy. The walls are paper thin and could hear everything from other units next to us and above us. The swimming pool is not at the same location as any of the rooms or buildings we stayed at. The swimming is located quite a distance away, old, isolated and not what one would expect from a resort. Do yourself a favor and go to a real resort, it will be worth the extra money. A beautiful island with lots to do!
The setting was beautiful and so convient to the beach. The grounds were really well taken care of and the staff was wonderful. The pool across the street is strange and not that great, but who needs that when the Pacific is a few steps away!
Stayed here 10/2 - 10/8.. I was expecting a better than 3 stars like what the rating shows but was disappointed. There is no A/C. It was my fault I did not check properly when I was looking for acommodations, I was blindsided by the rating. The ceiling fans (bedroom and living room and 1 portable fan) were not adequate to cool off the hot and muggy night up to 3 am in the morning even the Lanai screen door (need fixing since January, per comments book in the room) is open. This is our 5th time in Kauai and this is the only time I did not enjoy our trip, for sleep deprivation. ...Now the good stuff... The front desk are more than fantastic helping us. Housekeeping was more than happy to make our stay more comfortable, giving us fresh towels almost everyday. Kitchen is fully equipt for a small meal, although we only cooked twice, wifey refused to cook dinner, (per her) it is too hot to cook! .. Summary: Condo is good on winter months.. If you can tolerate muggy and hot nights without aircon on spring/fall especially summer, this is for you. I know, I will not come back here.
