Makahuena at Poipu

Had large oceanview two bedroom condo with full kitchen. Saw turtles from common area viewing of ocean. No beach swimming but didn't need it with public beach within walking distance. No aircon but didn't need it with the tradewinds. Would definitely stay here again.

We had four adults in a two bedroom two bath condo with partial ocean view (room 1105 - one queen bed and two twin beds) and we had plenty of space. We had service every other day to change out towels, vacuum, and she even ran our dish washer. This is not a luxurious hotel with room service, it is more of a home away from home. We used our equipped kitchen to make meals and BBQ. Poipu beach and Koloa are close- but we did drive everywhere and there was plenty of parking everywhere we went. Loved the washer & dryer-we were able to pack much lighter. Our room was on the bottom floor and close to the pool-they provide beach towels upon request. Loved it and plan to stay here again in the future.

Enjoyed the ocean view and the hot tub, close walk to beach. Property is showing it's age a bit.

the condo was furnished with everything you could imagine, top of the line appliances including washer dryer high speed internet and wi-fi hi def tv with bluray player ect.. even some beach gear chairs mats boogie board and now a beach umbrella we donated.decor was contempearary with a tropical flair.the lani was nice with tables and chairs to enjoy the surprisingly good ocean view ( condo lists as partial view)location was very close to poipu beach and a very nice walking trail toward shipwreck beach. the only negitive ..complex did get noisy, the sound travels and with everyone's windows open for the wonderful evening breeze some of the not so considerent guests were annoying. otherwise great experience...

The Makahuena is in a fantastic location at the end of a hotel resort area. It sits on a cliff looking out over the Ocean with 180 deg views. On pulling into the parking lot, we were greeted with a huge whale breaching not 200 yards off shore. Our room (a 3br ocean view)while older is in great shape. comfortable beds and breathtaking views from the balcony. All 6 members of our party were blow away by the value and the setting of this island paradise. Will be coming back here on out next trip!

Loved the location, property is oceanfront and the east side has an outrageous sunrise oceanview. Great place to whale watch. We were upgraded to a third floor 2 bed, 2 bath for the price of a one bed garden view. Would not recommend the lower floor units, no view and they look dark.

Beautiful location and grounds - The property is dated however and the furnishings are old and sparse...The maid service was average (they did it on our 3rd day and we had to go the last 4+ days without). As with most condo style vacations, the level of service and ammenities was very low...

Didn't look like too much from the outside, but our condo was very nice, clean, and perfect for us on our honeymoon. If we could do it all over again we would have stayed on the North Shore, however if we go back to Poipu again - we'll likely stay here!

The condominium was in a great location right next to the beach. We had a fantastic view of the ocean from the back porch with the waves crashing to the rocks below. Friendly and helpful staff. The unit was clean and nicely furnished.

This location was perfect for our multi family vacation. With having a kitchens fully equipped, we enjoyed sharing most of our meal together.

The staff were very helpful. They did forget to do the maid service on day 4 of 7 but were very apologetic, brought new towels etc. and scheduled it for the next day--which was no big deal for us. We were able to keep the room until 6 PM on the day of departure because we had a late flight out for a nominal fee and this gave us a whole day to play and then shower and get ready for the flight home. It was a wonderful bonus

We loved sitting on the rocks located infront of the hotel and looking at the sunset and watching turtles. This was the best condo we have ever stayed in. It's beautiful and very big. I would recomment staying on the bottom floor; the pool and water is right out your back door. Location is great, there are two great beaches within a 5 minute walk. I highly recomment this condo, it makes your experience in hawaii that much better!

My husband attended a medical conference for several days and we typically take extra time to enjoy the area. The condo was better than we expected-beautiful, spacious, clean, and peaceful. Having the washer/dryer available in each condo was a definite plus. It was very relaxing walking the many trails nearby and fascinating to watch whales and sea turtles almost daily. Each of the Hawaiian islands we have vacationed on were wonderful though this turned out to be one of our favorites so far.

THE VIEW WAS AWESOME! PART OF THE CONDO WAS UPGRADED, THIS MAY SOUND PICKEY, BUT THE FEW THINGS I WOULD CHANGE WOULD BE THE COFFEE TABLE WAS TOO HIGH FOR THE COUCH AND IT HAS A RAISED EDGE MAKING IT UNCOMFORTABLE TO PUT YOUR FEET UP AT THE END OF THE DAY. WE WOULD ALSO PROVIDE BEACH CHAIRS RATHER THAN MATS. OTHERWISE IT WAS PERFECT!

The Makahuena was top notch for the price. Located next to the best beach on Kauai (Shipwreck beach). The facility had tennis courts with racquet rental for $5/day, excellent parking, great pool and hot tub. It is right on the point so you can see both the sun rise and sun set from this location. It is a short walk (about 10 minutes) to Poi'pu beach that has the best snorkeling on the southern side of the island. It is about 5 minutes to Shipwreck beach along the walking trail. Most reasonable eateries are not within walking distance. Brennecke's (beach) and restaurant are close. Our unit had 2 beds and 2 baths, partial ocean view, was very clean and towels were changed out 2X/week. The unit had a full kitchen with the all of the amenities. The unit even had boogie boards, snorkel gear, coolers, movies, and sand mats. The complex also has two Weber gas grills for use by all visitors. This is why we choose to rent at locations that are personally owned. Our unit was wonderful. Staff kept the place very clean. The units were built in the mid 80's and are not the Hyatt experience. If you want that "resort" experience it is just down the beach. This is a great place to stay for the price. Garden views do not see the ocean. There is salt spray that gets on the windows because of the waves, so if you want a perfect view, look out the lanai. Also, we were able to see Spinner dolphins, Humpback whales, and sea turtles right out the window daily! This resort is on the water, but you cannot swim there due to the strong waves, under tow, and rocks. Just remember, within a few minutes walk you are on the beach. We would go back to this place in a heartbeat. Mahalo!

Very friendly and accommodating service, relaxed atmosphere.

We were on our honeymoon & this location was a perfect location. We got great views on the Makaheuna's cliffs of both sunrises & sunsets! We saw dolphins swim by the cliffs! The grounds are immaculately maintained & the pool & jacuzzi are very clean & centrally located. The first condo we stayed in was a partial ocean view on the 1st floor. This was a nice but outdated space w/ some nonworking power outlets & really loud bathroom fans. We asked for an upgrade & [...] & [...] were very nice to move us to a fabulous 2 story condo on the 3rd floor w/ full upgrades & a sweeping ocean view for a little more money. We're definitely coming back.

We really liked the Makahuena Condos. Our unit, 1403, had a partial view of the ocean from the deck and master bedroom. It was an easy 5 minute walk to the beach. Everything we needed for a day in the sun was available (extra towels, cooler, mats, boogie board, etc). There was a full entertainment center in the living room and a plasma TV in the master bedroom. Free cable and internet were available. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes, small electronics, and nice appliances. We would definitely stay there again.

Ocean waves pounding against the cliffs seem to rock you to sleep each night and the sunsets are amazing over the deep blue Pacific ocean. You'll find yourself within walking distance to Poipu & Shipwreck Beach along with fabulous dining and shops nearby. This facility is very centrally located for whatever your adventure of the day may be. Mahalo!!!

The Castle Makahuena Condominium Resort at Poipu, is a great value for the location. The beach wasn't as close as I expected, but a short car ride did the trick. The resort's pool and spa were down for maintanence the majority of time we wre there, which was only 3 days, so it put a bit of a damper on our poolside relaxation, but we found plenty of other things to do. We were in a 2 bedroom ocean front condo which was very spacious and was right on the cliff so you not only got an ocean view with beautiful sunsets but also a magnificent display of waves crashing on the rocks sending sprays of water into the air. BREATHTAKING! Overall our stay was very nice, the price was great, views incredible, bed a bit saggy but clean and well kept. It does show signs of aging but I think they are in the process of taking care of that.
