Break Sokos Hotel Koli

Finnish wilderness with modern comfort. Pleasant and friendly personnel, but the hotel rooms, in particular, need an urgent facelift (mucky windows etc.). In general, a finishing touch was missing here and there (things lying around in corridors, behind tables etc.). The restaurant menu was not so vegetarian friendly, either. Rip off prices for food and drinks. But in all, worth to visit for a night or two.

Hotel is really needing the update. Our room was in bad shape. Water came up from the floor drain. The room was poorly cleaned. No air conditioning. I was disappointed to hotel itself. Of course view from the restaurant was stunning and surroundings very nice. Also service in restaurant was super good. In reception there was 2 person, but only one worked, we waited quite a long time to book in.

The best is the location! There are also other services available to help you to plan your visit and possibilities for nature walks are great. The staff is friendly but the service on a busy weekend day was a bit slow in the terrace cafe. The rooms are bit oldish although very clean and comfortable. Sauna and spa are also available. The views are great for the lake and the nature walks absolutely magnificent.

Although many people have punished in their reviews Sokos Hotel Koli for the ship's-cabin-size rooms, they are well equipped and comfortable (after all, the hotel structure has been fitted to the contours of the very narrow mountain top). The location (literally a few steps away from the pristine taiga of the hills), ambient and the views are simply stunning. The hotel restaurant must be the best chain hotel eatery in Finland, delicious dinners. Breakfast is good average level, well arranged.

Like many of the other reviewers, I can reiterate that the location is stunning. Unbeatable views, some of the best I have ever seen. The rooms however are in need of updating especially for the price. Everything seems a little worn around the edges. The sauna on the hand is very good and the restaurant is decent. Make sure you get a room with a view on the second floor.

This is a hotel by one of the most known viewpoints in Finland. I really have mixed feelings about our stay. We booked a superior room well in advance and specifically asked for one with a view. Well, we received one with a view to the parking lot, a worn poor room with a ridiculously badly renovated bathroom. No air conditioning, smells funny. Dinner at the hotel's steak restaurant was excellent, friendly staff and really tasty food. Selection of local beers, jus a few wines on list. Be aware to book well in advance to get a table with the scenery. Breakfast was again something totally different, really cheap and basic: Chocolate fountain and chips for kids, basic cereal and bakery for grown ups. Don't expect to eat healthy here. In summary, this is a hotel with top location and overall very friendly staff, but the rooms are outdated and the restaurants perform unevenly. The Koli viewpoints can be accessed free of charge.

The hotel itself is quite average and the price of rooms is quite high compared to other hotels of the same quality. The junior suite room in which we were was a worn out. Quite surprisingly it didn't have any air conditioning (it did have a large fan) nor a safe. The location of the hotel is good and if you wan't to enjoy breathtaking views of Finnish nature this a good hotel to stay. The hotel is located next to some excellent hiking trails with a good view to the lake. The spa had the same challenge as the hotel itself. It is quite average but the price is high (35€). On the plus side the service is good for a Finnish hotel. For the service part the hotel is at least a good hotel.

The main thing this hotel has going for it is location! When we booked the hotel we had no idea how fabulous the location would be so we were pleasantly surprised! You can drive up to the hotel to check in and take luggage to the room but otherwise you park down below and take a very cool lift up the hill to the hotel. There are many beautiful and famous walking trails that originate from the hotel, there is a nature center, and a recreational shop. There are two restaurants that are okay. We enjoyed the Kahpitsa better than Grillit. The restaurant breakfast is great. We did not utilize the spa as we felt it was overpriced and we had other things we wanted to spend our time doing. The views from the hotel are awesome! The beds are a bit warn out but serviceable.

The only positive things about this hotel are extremely polite and friendly staff, and the location. The hotel rooms (our at least ours) would very much need not even refurnishing (as the beds, closets and armchairs are quite old) but mainly basic decent cleaning! Upon arrival we found dust on the floor and also a quite thick layer of dust on the heater's cover, hairdryer's cable and cloths dryer in the closet. The hairdryer was so old that basically the cover was melting and the small box with sugar and teas had some old sugar leftovers all-around it. Now the SPA - it looks new and clean, but I'd say not worth the price (35 Eur). It has 3 very nice saunas but apart from that only one jacuzzi and quite a few (why so many?!) sitting places for feet bathing (but with no massaging bubbles). There are 3 tubs on the outside terrace with magnificent view but those are just tubs with hot water, not jacuzzis. Additionally, there is also a small musical swimming pool (when you put your head below the level of water you hear music) but it's way too small for swimming. One can also shower under massaging showers (tropical rain or storm are some of the options) or just relax in a small relaxing room (4 sitting places only!). Even off season the place was quite crowded. When you enter, you receive a mini-set of cosmetics or a bottle of wine (white/red/sparkling) which you can drink in the SPA area. I'd say the other free access saunas that are available in the hotel (outside the SPA area) free of charge are enough for relaxing😝Breakfast is nice - quite standard but with all one needs, and even a chocolate fountain on top😋 But as said - the only thing that saves this place is the top location and top people running it!

We spend a few days here during easter break and enjoyed a lot of all aspects of our stay. We were travelling with our beagle dog and she seemed to be ok with the hotel too. Lake side rooms have amazing views to lake Pielinen. Breakfast is good with enough variety. We had also one dinner and food was nicely prepared too. Spa itself was very nice albeit a bit expensive, but admission price included spa products or bottle of red, white or sparkling wine. So you were kind of forced to drink something, and in the evenings it was adults only. Outdoor hot tubs with views to Pielinen were just amazing after sun set. We did not ski but did a lot of walking around Koli (as usual); very relaxing!
