This is the worst condo i’ve been in by far. Everything seems so dirty and like they don’t even clean anything. The couches feel dusty, the bedding looks unwashed. The pool isn’t family friendly. No swimming diapers are allowed in the pool, kids have to be potty trained and they don’t even have a kiddy pool. The balcony is unsafe for kids as well, there are spaces big enough for a child fall through. If you’re looking for a clean, family friendly condo to rent, I would not recommend this place. Take your money elsewhere.
If you like to surf or body surf, this is the place for you. Kona White Sands is directly across the Ali'i Drive. It is an okay beach for swimming but the currents can be dangerous. The room at the Kona Sands has been recently remodeled. It was stocked with all the dinnerware and utensils necessary to make meals there. The management company both emailed and called us the day after our arrival to make sure everything was okay and it was. This condo is about 10 minutes or less from downtown Kailua/Kona. The only thing we would suggest would be to have air conditioning. Since there is a public beach across the street, we couldn't keep our doors open to get the trade winds necessary to cool down our room. This is a great spot for those who love to surf, body surf, or snorkel.
I’ll dive right in ( that’s heavy on the irony as you’ll see ) So many rules on what can’t be done in the entertaining area and even ‘no jumping’ in the predominantly ‘way too deep’ pool ( most of it was 8’ or 9’) and just in case you might be tempted - the office linked CCTV cameras will have the hapless enforcers storming down from the office to publicly chide you. You certainly feel like an outsider and 'not one of the owners'....they have a degree of elitism which was laughable, and let you know daily that they are 'the owners'. The the long term permanent residents will ‘helpfully ‘ explain that they all have to pay for the upkeep and don’t like the noise ( of kids playing and or adults wanting to play with their children ) Such a let down on a family vacation. Yes the beach is just a very short distance down the road - but what if you want to spend some time at the pool with your pre-teen ? Heck - even I like to jump in a pool and I'm middle aged !! Heaven forbid. OK apart from the numerous ‘do not...’ signs and ‘information’ sheets - sheets that tell you more about more of what you cannot do - our condo was tired and old fashioned. No upgrades since the condos were built it seems. Fraying poorly painted 'rattan' furniture. Other condos have been refurbished to an extent. The ceiling in our master bedroom was discolored with blown-in dust from the air conditioning vent. The main a/c filter was just plain dirty. Old - what looked like culinary heirlooms sat in the cupboards and the patio door was a two armed struggle for a 6’1” ex rugby player (me). If you have kids - boisterous or not - keep them away from the pool - and if you like having fun with the kids - oh no - not in the pool !!... Nice location to drive out of however - close to all main amenities. Weather was fabulous and enjoyed the zip line near Hilo (about a 2 hour drive) Costco car rental was excellent. We didn't let the regulations spoil a great vacation...just felt rather underwhelmed by this "resort"
Our condo was on the second floor and was exactly as advertised and we did not have any of the problems mentioned by some previous reviewers. Unit was spic and span and all appliances worked along with fans that were definitely needed in the afternoon/early evening hours. Only glitch was that the TV showed about a third of the screen as vertical noise lines and it turned out that it had been damaged by the previous tenants. Between Casie and Russell and their direct contact in Kona (Jim) this was taken care of quickly and a new TV was installed and everything worked fine by the first of the week. Besides who goes to Kona (paradise) to watch TV?? LOL. Kona White Sands was located perfectly for taking off points to see the rest of the island conveniently. As several other reviews have stated, the unit itself is perfectly oriented to get the benefit of the morning and evening breezes and you can't beat the view from the street side lanai of the beach. We (my wife and I) were very satisfied and would certainly place this unit at the top of the list for a return visit depending of course on availability. Mahalo.
Kona White sands condos appears to be where I stayed, though address is slightly different. Hope I got the right place (White Sands Village. 77-6469 Alii Dr.#324) Nice place. A little disappointed at first. Room had a musty smell. Noticed tools and plumbing parts spread across the kitchen. Not a good first impression. Within a few hours the plumbing repairs were done and by the next day the smell was gone. Assume it was related to the plumbing issue (leak in plumbing), and had no more problems/ Room was well appointed, had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable as was the furniture. End unit with a wraparound deck. Actually faces away from beach (nice mountain view), but the north portion of the deck provides a nice pool and ocean view. My only view issue was to get a nice sunset view, had to step out onto the front walkway. Minor inconvenience.Have to be a hiker to consider it walking distance to any stores, restaurants or shopping (over a mile.) 3 story building with an elevator, but it is near the street. For the units on my end, that means stairs. I don't do stairs well, so it was a little bit of a painful inconvenience, but not a deal breaker. Biggest problem there was the maintenance guy who insisted on blowing off the parking area for 20-30 minutes every morning (I couldn't see him, but assume that's what he was doing. Awakening at approx. 8:15 am to the sound of a screaming leaf blower is not my idea of paradise. All told, I would stay there again..
We stayed in Apt 206 which was really the third floor since the ground floor was the parking area. Our parking spot was very close to the elevator which would make it very convenient to get both to the gate of the pool area and to the elevator to our room.At our arrival at night luckily we did not have to fumble around looking for the apartment because there was an illuminated transom with etched glass with the apartment number and a stylized scene of the moon, birds and cloud We did not have to fumble around with keys to open the door either since the owners had a key less push button lock installed. No reason to worry about losing keys or having to pay for them. One more nice touch was an automatic light sensor that switched on as soon as we got into the apartment so we did not have to fumble around finding a light switch after we opened the door. These folks really made this unit super user friendly right down to USB outlets installed in the living room electrical outlets to charge our smartphone without the chargers When we opened the sliding wooden curtains that first night, we were greeted with a very romantic night time illumination of the swimming pool directly below us from the balcony. This made for an evening ritual of enjoying a calm outdoor dinner at a very grand table with equally comfortable swivel chairs Breakfast on the balcony was just as relaxing with an expansive view overlooking the beach and the ocean. It was only natural that after breakfast we would take the quick walk right across the street from our unit to the beach we saw from our balcony. The owners thoughtfully provided beach paraphernalia all the way from beach chairs and towels, snorkels, fins, masks and rafts and noodles and beach umbrella right down to special rubber shoes to walk on the occasional rocky beach. When we were just too full gorging ourselves on all the exotic tropical fruits that Kona has to offer (guavas papayas, mangoes, passion fruit, star fruit, jack fruit, soursop, mangostine, dragon fruit, prickly pears, cactus fruit, cherimoya custard fruit and of course, pineapple, apple bananas washed down with coconut) water) we would just sun ourselves at the pool in the day or dip into the jacuzzi or warm up in the sauna at night. There was free WiFi and free internet telephone to the mainland. The super sized smart TV had YouTube and Skype along with the other Apps. So easy to hang out even at night. The bedrooms all had flat screen TVs and DVD players but the twin bedroom had no cable just a DVD player and a connection for a playstation or X box. The beds all had memory foam so that made them very comfortable to sleep on. Sometimes my wife has to really adjust to a mattress that is too soft or too hard but these beds were just right for the Goldilocks in her. The wooden curtains were easy to open and close with just a fingertip because they were not a draw string type that snags up. I heard they are called AVERTE natural treatments. I had stayed in places on the big island were the blinds were plastic, hard to pull and then they would snag or the plastic blinds would fall down, This was the first unit I stayed in where these wooden curtains glided effortlessly both in the living room and in the bedroom. I would like to get these for my own place back on the mainland. The kitchen had it all. Icemaker, Coffee maker, Toaster, Microwave, the USUAL you name it... Very easy wide open counter top . All the necessary utensils. They even had plastic glasses you could bring down to the pool. Once we had a BBQ at the pool with things we bought at the local COSTCO. Very clean BBQ grills and refrigerators. Never did use the tennis courts nor the pool table. Maybe next time AS far as all we did on the BIG island There is too much to mention. MAUNA KEA, WAIPIO VALLEY, GREEN SANDS BEACHES, Punalu'u black sands beaches, Kilauea.Caldera, lava flows, Hilo Town South Point and much, much more, , But I highly recommend the Kona Brewery ( DO NOT worry about driving there you can take the Trolley bus that conveniently stops right in front of White Sands Village COndO and goes right in front of the Kona Brewery), The Poke Shack near the Bali Kai Condo about 1 mile down on Alii Drive, Thai Orchid, UMEKES all are great. Sam Choy's used to be great now it has slipped since it went corporate. The farmer's market are great at K Mart on Tuesday afternoon. The one at Keauhou shopping center is great on Saturday morning. Downtown Kona has a good one on Wednesday. BEST KONA COFFEE was at Kona Mountain Coffee Shop on the way to the airport near the Matsuyama Supermarket! BETTER THAN Starbucks My family and I will absolutely come back to White Sands Village 206. It was truly fantastic!
We stayed at Joanne & Randy's White Sands Village condo in October 2016. The property was exactly as described and exceeded our expectations. The condo is located on the top floor of the building with great views of the ocean and the pool. The unit has been beautifully upgraded and was in immaculate shape upon our arrival. A very nice note and a bottle of wine welcomed us as we entered this fantastic home. The unit is large, light and airy with two large bedrooms. The master bedroom opens to the pool and deck with great ocean views. The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be easily combined into a king bed (which we did). The condo was stocked with beach chairs, diving gear, beach towels, etc. All the basics were provided in the kitchen and the laundry area. White Sands Village is located directly across the street from White Sands Beach (Disappearing Sands Beach). The beach is great for both swimming and snorkeling. We enjoyed playing in the surf as well as snorkeling with the turtles and fishes right across the street from the unit. The complex is very quiet and everyone that we met was friendly and outgoing. We moved north to Waikoloa after our stay at WSV -- White Sands Village is more conveniently located to explore all that the Big Island has to offer. Two Step and Captain Cook (great for snorkeling/diving are only about 35 minutes south of the unit). Kailua-Kona is only a short drive north on All'i Drive. Joanne was extremely easy to deal with prior to and after our reservations. She was professional and informative regarding all of our questions. On our next visit to Kona, we'll definitely stay at unit 306 at WSV.
We have stayed here at the White Sands Condos several times. We love the complex, and unit 201 is a front condo with a double balcony. The condo location was fantastic, front row seat to watch the body surfers at Magic Sands beach. This particular condo is managed by Sun Quest vacation rentals, I would rate them as with a 1+. Our condo was a two bed two bath, and had one wash cloth for the entire unit. It also did not have any beach towels. The dryer did not work in the unit. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, and Sun Quest does not answer the phone or respond to any issues or concerns until Monday. The internet is intermittent at best. On Monday morning we did get a call stating they would be by with both wash clath and beach towels. Items showed up Weds in plastic bags sitting outside the front door. The items smelled like they had been in a smokers car for a while. Now will we stay at the white sands condos again, absolutely but not this unit, or any unit managed by Sun Quest vacations. I highly recommend unit 101 which is remolded and also has a double balcony.
My sis jointly owned a condo here for 20 years, and so I visited often. The property consists of three 3-storey structures with elevators, two fronting Alii Drive directly across from Magic Sands (aka Disappearing Sands, Magic Sands) beach, and the third unit set back behind the other two. That third structure us quieter because it's not as close to Alii Drive and the noise from the beach, plus it's not as close to the pool, meaning it's more relaxed and sedate. One can still see the beach and the ocean from many of the 2nd or 3rd storey units. The buildings were constructed around 30-40 years ago and so most of the units are dated but the property has always been well maintained. The two front buildings have a beautiful pool between them and a hot tub. There's also a recreation area behindd those buildings which house the office, 3 BBQs, and a pen enclosed pool table. Each unit has two parking spots, one of which is often occupied by the owners who leave a car behind when away. Every unit contains two bedrooms, one with ensuite bath. There is a second bathroom, a small efficient kitchen, washer and dryer in each unit, storage locker, pantry and closets. Also of course a combined large living/dining room. The lanai is quite big. I found that the best units are on the second ir third floor because it affords a better view of the Pacific. Since the lanais of each unit are angled slightly diagonally & perpendicular to the beach (and not facing the beach), one does not get a perfect view of the ocean. Some units offer better views than others. I enjoy staying there very much because of the close proximity to the Magic Sands beach. A trolley bus comes by a few times a day going into the town of Kona and beyond. The cute town of Kona is about a 15 minute drive from the units. Also note that at certain times of the year, the sand at the beach is pulled out, leaving exposed Rick and not suitable for swimming. This usually occurs during the stormy surf during December to March or April, but is unpredictable. At those times I used to drive to Hapuna Beach or to one of the resorts where the resorts are mandated to offer a limited number of free parking spots to the public and access to their beaches. Best to go early if you wish to secure one of those precious parking spots at a resort.
The suite was sweet. Slept 5 (3 grown kids) easily and had plenty of space for food and we were never cramped in. Easy to cook in and good balcony to eat outside. The pool was clean and rarely busy which was nice. Good way to take a break from the beached or hikes. BBQ pit was great too! Kept clean and always worked. Right on Ali'i drive made a great location and was right across from Magic Sands Beach which was a great spot. Just be carful of the mid-day traffic and turning out of the parking complex if you're driving
