I have been visiting this property since I was a child and always loved it so returned about 18 times. It used to be very friendly and Hawaiian but has become more touristy and marketing driven. The property is still beautiful but the restaurant with great breakfasts is closed, the staff isn't so friendly, and some of the things I always looked forward to are gone. I did get a nice perk from Expedia, which was a room upgrade but they put me in room 338 which was right above a huge roof which I did not want to be my view. I asked them if they had another room not on top of a roof and the front desk lady Diane gave me a standard room 209 above another roof and it was one of the few rooms without a balcony. Since the hotel was only about 60% full I asked her if that was the best she could do. She said they had no other rooms available in that category but I could pay an additional $100 a night for a better room. I checked the desk a few more time since I was told they had many empty rooms but always got the same answer. Seems like they just don't care about their guests anymore so probably won't return.
