The Reef is a very good hotel to stay in Johannesburg in one of the safest areas. Service is very good and transfers also and for a good price. Rooms are spacious and with industrial design. People are helpfull and nice.
The service there is remarkable and all staff members are friendly towards guests. I enjoyed my stay and the food also was good. My only concern is the gym, only if the gym could be expanded then 👍..
Nice place for business travel . Good restaurant , a bar on the rooftop offer some shows no weekends. The neighborhood is not safe and You shouldnt walk around alone. The Free Wi-Fi is Good , bug a little instable.
Overall this Hotel is a excellent choice. The Accomodation and Food is Excellent. However at the Ground Floor is a very awfull smell and the Wifi is very poor / slow especially if you have no other way of communication this is kind of a deciding factor.
Very friendly staff. Took a private tour to Soweto with Bob Thanyane; the guy is awesome! The restaurant needs to improve a lot. The buffet is very poor. The surrounding area is not very safe, but that's downtown JNB...
When we arrived at The Reef Hotel, Johannesburg my first thoughts were what was the stay going to be like? I wouldn’t suggest this to anyone as my stay (being only one day) was bad and the children found it scary. We were going to checkout the following day though we couldn't make any other bookings as this hotel didn't have good access to the internet. The hallways were dim, doors wouldn’t lock/unlock properly and the lights wouldn’t sense our presence as they are supposed to. The phone connections weren’t working well either so it made it harder to contact anyone. Although the scenery at the reception was beautiful, the hotels entrance didn’t seem so formal with a desk and no-one to help us with our needs. The ceilings weren’t a problem however a person staying might not like the plain, unfinished cement ceilings. The workers were entertaining and kind towards us which made our stay worth it. Though all the problems listed above would make the hotels clients want to book another place. Hopefully they are intending to follow up to our suggestions and make the hotel better for the future clients.
Clean, conveniently located in the C.B.D. Friendly and helpful staff. Stunning view of the city from top floor which is the best kept secret in Johanesburg. Definitely worth being advertised a bit more. Overall good value for money
Didn't have the greatest intro since they made me pay for a room that was supposed to have already been covered 9they later paid me back, but there was a $50 difference I had to foot!). However, the place works quite well. No good after dark, but Jo'Burg city centre is like that. Rooftop bar is great but only open weekends. Bar is decent, service friendly, and good shuttle service 9at a cost). Probably won't be taking the wife there, but it was an authentic introduction to a tough city. Stay in Sandton if you want protection in the old South African way...
We picked this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews and it's location close to many of the historical landmarks. But unfortunately this downtown location gets quiet and dark and scary in the evening and many folks who live here suggested we move to a better area such as Sandton or Westcliff. But the hotel itself is newly refurbished with a very modern decor style. The rooms and bathrooms are functional but small. WiFi is included and works in the rooms but is very slow. The reception and only restaraunt/ coffee shop/ bar is also on the same floor. But the coffee shop does not serve anything other than breakfast . The staff is friendly and nice and particularly Manager Yash Athawale was very helpful. But we moved to the Four Seasons after one night as there are no amenities and activities and things to do at the hotel itself and we did not feel comfortable walking in that neighborhood after dark.
The room and amenities left a lot to be desired. We were given a 250 ml of water bottle per day for two of us!!! No slippers provided in the room. The amenities were definitely below par. Shampoo and bath gel had same stuff in different bottles. Roof looked ugly as there was no false ceiling and everything was exposed.
