We arrived late on Saturday night after traveling home from our beach vacation in Florida. The location is excellent, however, there were a few things that caused our stay to be less than stellar. First, we opened up the door to the room and were greeted with a very very strong musty smell. We overlooked this, as we know that the AC is on all the time due to the heat of summer. As we got ready to climb into bed (we had two queen beds and a pullout sofa to sleep 6 people total), we pulled off the coverlet on the comforter so it wasn't in the way. What we saw on both white comforters were stains. Not just one or two small stains, but big huge yellow stains all over both comforters. We also noticed blood on both comforters as well. Had we not pulled off the coverlet on top of the comforter, we would have never noticed this. We were completely disgusted and grossed out. We requested new comforters and a person brought two brand new ones up. We didn't know this at the time, but it was the general manager who delivered the new comforters to our room. We showed him the stains, as he requested, and he said he would 'speak to housekeeping' in the morning. Needless to say, this experience made us question the cleanliness of the rest of the bedding and towels and we didn't have a good stay at all. When my husband spoke by phone with the general manager this afternoon, he admitted that the comforters are not washed every day, and according to him, 'most all hotels do not wash their comforters every day.' This, to me, is completely disgusting as no one should have to sleep in someone else's bodily fluids and blood. He did not introduce himself last night as the general manager to us, and had he, we would have not had to call today to express our displeasure. He did say this morning that he takes cleanliness very seriously and then compensated us half of the cost of our stay, but that wasn't even what we wanted---we really just wanted to stay in a clean room with clean sheets and bedding. So, please be forewarned that if you stay here, please take off the coverlet and inspect the white comforter so that you are not grossed out!
It was close to 90 degrees outside when we arrived, and we were glad to feel the air conditioning in the lobby. When we got to our room, however, it was a different story: although the a/c was on, the room was warm. We adjusted it and went out for 2 hours, but when we returned it was still warm. We decided we could not stay in that situation. The desk manager apologized, saying it was a new system and they were still working out the kinks. She gave us a different room. Same thing: we checked to make sure the a/c was programmed properly, went out for 2 hours, came back and there was no change. The refrigerator didn't seem to be working either. We decided to stay elsewhere. The hotel is located in a rundown area next to the highway, and adjacent to another very dicey-looking hotel.
My wife and I stopped here on our way back from Florida and enjoyed the stay very much. The hotel is located just off I-65 across the river from Louisville. As such it offers quick access to the city or a return to the interstate. Despite that it is remarkably free from traffic noise. The staff is quite friendly. The man at the reception desk was friendly and provided helpful suggestions regarding restaurants. He even recalled the conversation when we checked out. Our room was spacious and clean while the breakfast was more than adequate. And, finally, it was less expensive than most places of comparable quality at which we have stayed. We would stay there again if we were in the area.
One of those places that will fade from memory quickly. Nothing great about it and nothing bad. Breakfast was OK, but not quite on par, workout room, was limited but OK, service level was probably better than average. Room was relatively large but certainly not a lot of ambiance in there. Internet was fine. No pool, etc. Dead end of a service road. Nothing close by other than 5 other hotels, one sort of after the other. Maybe a 2 minute drive to restaurants etc. I suspect all these hotels are all hurting. Just not a lot of people. Nothing against the place but I might try next door, maybe the food would be better..
