Just arrived back from a 10 day stay at the Pinia Residence, which is an addition of self catering apartments to the main hotel. The apartments were located over a road, but situated well and with sea views. Gardens in front of the apartments between the coastal path and sea. There are no beaches in and around Porec, but steps but ladders regularly placed into the sea. If you like beach life and the gradual walk into the sea/sand, then this area and a lot of Croatia is not for you I'm afraid. About a 15-20 minute walk into Porec town itself , but you pass half a dozen bars on the way and the views are lovely, so doesn't feel like a long walk. There is a regular mini train every 40 mins (10 kunar each/£1.30 ish) which leaves outside Pinia and takes you direct into centre of Porec. Lovely local bars/restaurants close to Pinia with decent prices and friendly staff were By Willy and De Menegin which is a 5 min walk towards the sea. Small supermarket over the road and lovely Patisserie where we usually bought lunch. The hotel facilities were adequate for our needs. Sun beds close to pool available up to say 9am, but plentiful around the gardens. Used the gym once, very basic but enough to keep you active. Pool activities were the same each day. Aquafit twice a day and water nets in the afternoon. We used indoor table tennis frequently, and the free bikes were a major plus for our party of 8. We visited the Caves (1 hour)and regularly rode into Porec and beyond to see other coves. We visited the waterski park about 40 mins leisurely ride away. Aquacolours is worth a visit . Cost us 120 kn (£15) each way in a taxi which the hotel organised. Only saw some of the entertainment once, but tended to go out each evening for meals. Drinks in hotel higher than most places, but that's not unusual. 29 kn for a large local beer, compared to 20 in De Menegin. The apartment was sufficient for 3 adults 1 child (15). Was a bit worried the sofa bed wouldn't be big enough for 2 adults , but it was already made on arrival and stayed that way all holiday. Balcony/view lovely, aircon much needed in the 38 degree heat. The apartment was comfortable but looked a little tired. Everything fully functional, but could do with an upgrade. 3 star rating is about right . Overall we had a brilliant holiday, and Croatia has surprised me by how beautiful it is. Would definitely revisit the country but doubt it would be to the Pinia unless upgraded. We visited Rovinj for the day, and that was simply stunning. Would maybe look at hotels in that area.
We moved to the Pinia at short notice from the Valamar Pical (no air-conditioning). The first night we had a lousy room on the 3rd floor, clearly designed for single handicapped. Bed too narrow, and no proper sheets. however after complaining the next morning, we were given a fine room on the ground floor. We would rather have booked breakfast only so we could try retaurants in Porec, but full board was our only option. In fact the buffet meals offered excellent high-quality variety. Only problem is the size of the hotel, so the buffet selection area is very large and you walk miles to fill your plate and glass. There's an excellent open-air pool, open until late, with plenty of seating and a bar close by (but quite expensive). The hotel is just a short bike ride from Porec centre, and a toy tourist train runs into the centre from the entrance.
This resort hotel manages to give a personalised service, from the friendly welcome to the help from staff when seeking information. The room was comfortable and felt spacious with an extra space with sofa, desk, tv, etc. the bathroom was small but everything worked.
Lovely staff, views, rooms, location! Would visit again:) Visited as a family of 8, had spacious rooms with a lovely view, lots of activities to do and a lovely bar on the beach, pay for a drink and you can stay in the shaded sun beds all day:)
We were last year at Pinia hotel in Porec and had a good holiday together with whole family and therefore we've decided to book also this year at same place. The only chage was that since we were minus one (our adult daughter was not with us this year) this time we've decided to stay at Pinia Residence (that suits more our teenager's needs). This year experience was, in my point of view, less successful as last one because of condition of the apartment that we've been staying. First comment is about the condition of sleeping condition in living room. The sofa bad was almost in class of Tudor torture bed and probably from the same period (damages on sofa bed, worn out). The staff did not know how to response on my request to get improvement on this issue. Apart from that we had some smell of mold in the living room and we found out that there was water damage. The staff was again without solution on that and we got compensation at the end that went from 5% to 3% on final bill (I am sure that my Croatian is still OK and that I heard 5% at the beginning). The TV set was also bad and with some issues with receiving of channels. WIFI in appartment is not existing but this was more to our son disappointment and not so much ours. There were several other less successful experiences from last year, like removal of white sunbeds from the beach, drop in standar at Luna beach bar (both in food and staff with several exception like Sara, Natalia) and lack of smile in general at the staff (this is our third visit of Valamar and maybe too much comparison with Tamaris). On positive side I can stress that view from room was great as expected and many things are to forget when you are there. The beach is more than fine (I like grass) and not too crowded. The parking is great and posibility for basic shopping are there. All in all, average experience and since I heard "rumors" about facelifting I am looking forward to see the place after that. I am just affraid that the price will be also different.
Not sure if it that is because it came at the end of a 250 mile cycle from Venice and the huge relief of reaching that point. Or the fact we were welcomed with a smile useful information. Offer to book our taxi to The ferry terminal with a prepared packed lunch. Or the pool and all its activities. Or the wonderful buffet. Which included unlimited wine and beer? Or maybe the secure bike storage.
The hotel is really great, specially the food, like in all Valamar hotels. We were there during Eastern holidays, and we got eggs with asparagus for breakfast and real eastern ham. And they even brought us "pinca", traditional croatian eastern cake, to our room. I mention the food on the first place, because I think, it is the best thing of Valamar. Of course, room was also very nice and clean. I saw a lot of people with dogs, so obviously, this hotel is dog friendly. And also friendly to sports people - obviously they are known also for cycling and triathlon preparations. There a lot of possibilities for cycling in Poreč and surroundings. I would be thrilled to give 5 points, but I was a bit dissapointed in their heating system. In this time of year, it was still rather cold, and the heating worked only at certain hours, not during the whole day. We were in the room in the afternoon and I got really cold...
Pinia is a 3 star hotel in Poreč, a member of Valamar chain. We stayed there 7 days and had a All inclusive light package. Which means we had 3 meals and drinks during meals. So you have to pay for other drinks coffees etc in the hotel. It sounds OK but in reality it is not. For example we were offered some juices from the machine. If you pick an orange juice you get some sweet yellow water that LOOKS like orange juice but it is not. But on each table you have a card that informs you that if you want (real) orange juice you have to pay 25 kunas (3,3 Euro) a glass. And we payed over 140 euros a day for a double room. The food was well prepared but it was on the cheap side. Plenty of turkey and pork every day, in every imaginable way, but i did not register veal or lamb, not even once in 7 days. In spite of that, food was the highlight of our stay thanks to obviously skilled cooks and rest of the staff. Price of the parking (3 Euro daily I think) was not included in the price although parking space was clearly inside the hotel complex. On the hotel beach, (to which anyone have access, not only hotel guests) price of the sunbeds parasols etc was not included in the price, there was only a small discount (i think 10 %) for hotel guests. In case you select a hotel outdoor pool, sunbeds are free but they are almost always taken. Many guests "reserve" their sunbed early in the morning by putting a towel or a piece of clothes on it, so in several occasions I wasn't able to find one, although half of them were empty all the time, but still "reserved". Swimming in the pool was almost impossible, at least in a relaxed way. Children and teenagers were constantly jumping in the water, splashing and wetting everybody around. Many were playing with balls, sometimes throwing the ball to one another across the whole pool, there were always at least 3-4 balls in the pool, often more. No one was doing anything to stop that although there was a big sign showing clearly that neither jumping nor balls were allowed. Rooms were clean and staff were friendly. Tv set in the room was miniature, outdated, with very limited selection of programs and bad reception. To conclude, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone seeking for relaxation, peace and tranquility. I would recommend it to all those who have many small children and want to offer to them total freedom to jump, scream, laugh, cry and do without any inhibitions restrictions, limitations and consideration for other people, all those things that normally they don't let them do at home.
I stayed here 1week with my girlfriend. The staff was wery nice and friendly.Cleaning was perfect.Food was ok, but not more. We had all-iclusive-light (breakfast, lunch and dinner (lunch and dinner included wine and beer also). We were lucky with getting sunbeds at the pool, only 2 days we did not get any (because many reserve the beds before breakfast). But if you dont manage to get a sunbed, you just have to go to the beach (150m) and pay 20-35 (2-4usd) kuna/day for a bed. I recommend this hotel.
I was really surprised when rep reminded me this was a 3* hotel. The rooms are basic in amenaties, but spotlessly clean, beds super comfy and nice and quiet. The aircon was pretty low power, but had enough of an effect during heatwave, providing relief from 33 degrees outside. Restaurant was great, large choice of very fresh food, much of it cooked in front of you, nothing 'recycled' from breakfast or lunch, wine, beer and soft drinks available. Lovely pool area with sunbeds and parasols and plenty of shaded areas. You do have to be up early to get a sunbed, people seem to put towels on them for the day 'just in case' they want them as sevearl times we saw beds 'reserved' but never used.......very frustrating. 'Beach' area is also great, large number of sunbeds, for a charge of 40 kuna each, acces to sea and showers. Luna beach bar open all day and evening, with great snack foods available, bottles of Prosecco for 130 kuna, and offer some great live evening entertainment. Also used the spa centre and had an amzing ' anti stress' massage, lovely staff and very good value for money. Used the tourist train into town both day and evening time, takes about 7 minutes, but arrive in plenty of time in evening as it gets VERY busy. Otherwise it is 80 kuna for a taxi. Some nice local restaurants within minutes walk of the hotel, and a reasonable sized supermarket. Only negative was check in service, on arrival waited 30 minutes to get to front of queue, only 4 other people in front of us! I've already recommended this hotel to friends.
