The Claremont Hotel

Excellent hotel, well presented, spacious rooms (we were in 317), good location. Would have got 5 stars except for slow, chaotic and uncoordinated breakfast service on the first day, latterly not a problem following complaint.

What a pity to be allocated room 105. It does not bear any resemblance to the pictures of rooms on the website. It is claustrophobic for teo people to stay in with a frosted glass window, so no view, and the persistent sound of an air conditioning or extractor vent 24 hours a day. And, from 0600 hrs the noise of delivery lorries. I might as well have slept in a lorry park. A great pity because on my way to the Isle of Man i stayed in a Premier Inn and had 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Having taken our honeymoon in the IOM 50 years ago, we decided to return to relive memories. The hotel, the Villiers, we stayed in then, has since been demolished, so I researched on Trip Advisor and selected the Claremont. Reservation on their website was easy. On arrival the reception staff were delightful and helpful. Room was clean, modern and well equipped, but to describe it as a sea view was a little misleading. There was a widow that looked over the sea admittedly, but it was high and the only way to see the sea was to stand at the window. Furthermore in a double room there was only one chair so one of us had to sit on the bed! Breakfast was served by a delightful young lady, and the choice of food was good and very tasty. We opted for dinner in the hotel our second evening, when reserving our table the night before, we requested a window table, yet we did not get one and no-one thought to tell us one was not available. Dinner service was slow, but the food when it arrived was extremely good. Parking is a problem, not in that you can’t find places to park but it is based on a disc system with a maximum of 2 hours stay between 8:00am & 6:00pm which makes it difficult for guests with cars. Douglas Corporation should come to some arrangement with hotels to grant longer stay periods, to help the promotion of Douglas as a holiday place. If you opted to go out for the day on a guided tour, what does one do with your car?

Stayed at the Claremont in May and couldn’t ask for a nicer hotel. The room was wonderfully clean and the staff were exceptional. Hotel is right on the prom but you wouldn’t notice as the room was very quiet during the night. Brilliant bathroom facilities, with his and her basins. Didn’t have breakfast as I went to Noa Bakery (and would highly recommend it!) but did have lunch on the day of my departure and the food was to a great standard, hats off to the chef. Would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. Wonderful stay, thank you all.

The staff were brillant and most helpful to all requests. The rooms were a reasonable size and clean. Food was good and at a reasonable price. Plus a good selection of breakfast material available. The horse drawn tram stops right outside hotel and goes right up to the Electric Tram to Ramsey. Brillant. Steam train to Port Erin is also close 20min walk.

We had a wonderful, relaxing family weekend staying at the Claremont. Couldn't fault anything. The location is great. 5 minute walk from the Ferry, 2 minutes from the shopping area. Our accommodation was spacious, clean and comfortable with added extras included e.g. dressing gown, slippers, biscuits, chocolates. The food in the Coast restaurant is excellent, the choice is good and caters for children as well. The staff are warm, friendly and attentive and go out of there way to please. On our return to Liverpool, we stayed at the Hilton and it wasn't a patch on the Claremont. We will definately be returning to the Claremont soon.

In the hotel the back rooms are smallish and have no view at all- it’s a little claustrophobic with frosted glass. I’m swapped to a sea view room. Here, refurbishment (already underway) is needed, the curtain linings for example are stained and frayed. Housekeeping is somewhat careless, with drooping oxford pillowcases and untidily made sheets (not fitted) that wouldn’t pass matron’s test. Even the lampshades are a little askew.

I travel here for business and the food is only matched by the service. Restaurant is great and staff there are friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Reception always welcome with a smile, sounds insignificant but I travel loads and it’s not always the same. Rooms clean and spacious with all you need. Michelle and Isaac both made me feel very welcome and whilst all the staff are great they in particular shone through. Thanks for another great stay, see you all soon.

I have stayed in the Claremont every time I have visited the Island over the past few years. I have always enjoyed my stay. The staff are friendly and courteous, food is good and the breakfast substantial. The hotel is well located and good value for money. It can be a little noisy if you have a room on the promenade, but the are rooms are clean spacious and well presented, with good shower facilities and toiletries. Would recommend staying for business and pleasure.

Stay there on occasions and always enjoy. Great service and Jazz Night what a Super Ambiance . Will keep on coming back. Sea front bedrooms with a nice view. Staff very friendly. Breakfast lots of choice
