This hotel is perfectly situated on the front at Douglas, overlooking the sea and a short walk from the ferry terminal. Very friendly and helpful staff, particularly when I discovered that I had booked the wrong dates ! Rooms may need a bit of research. The standard room to which we were directed was unacceptably small and poky and we had to make a substantial payment to be upgraded. The second room was spacious and very comfortable. The public rooms are a bit modern and lacking in atmosphere but breakfast was excellent. The Isle of Man is a delight.
As I landed in Isle Of Man, I was told all flights home that day had been cancelled! Easy Jet were supposed to be booking me into a hotel but I couldn't get any information so a customer services guy said find a hotel and all reasonable expenses will be paid back. After a bit of searching the Claremont seemed to offer the best option and I would say the whole experience from check in to check out was very pleasant and relaxing. I enjoyed a hearty 3 course meal and watched the storm lash the sea front as I munched and then I took a stroll down the seafront before heading to bed. Considering many of the staff were wondering how they were going to get home with the storm, road closures etc I felt well looked after - well done The Claremont I appreciated it!
The Claremont was our base for the 5 day trip. Hospitality was excellent. Always prepared to help with enquiries. Accommodation good very comfortable- great staff extremely efficient and friendly. Food varied and delicious, all tastes catered for. Would definitely recommend a stay and would return ourselves.
Stayed at here for two nights whilst visiting the island for business. Room was on the small side but was comfortable enough for what I needed. Outside the back of the hotel the extractor fan from kitchen makes a bit of noise but this shuts down late evening so is not a major inconvenience. Staff are helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good with a decent selection from the buffet and menu options; good coffee also. Would happily stay here again.
My husband and I stayed at the Claremont this weekend. The room was so spacious, the king size bed extremely comfortable and the view was amazing: the lovely Tower of Refuge! Our stay here, as always, was very satisfying. The service is excellent, full of friendly and polite people. Delicious coffee and tea in the room and we were provided with some Blue Rays (for free) by the staff since hubby and I wanted a relaxing night. Too many good options to choose from, from Scorsese and Tarantino to Disney ones. Breakfast was also superb, fresh orange juice and fruits, and my pancakes were extremely delicious, as well! All in all, our experience was excellent! We will always stay there whenever we can!
If you guys fancy treating yourselves then look no further Claremont is a great place for a treat. Staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are very nice and modern. Love this hotel its so much better than it's competition.
Super hotel, very comfortable and conveniently located. Completely charming, helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommend. By luck, we all got upgraded in our rooms. Specious bathrooms although one couple complained of water not hot enough.
Stayed st the Claremont for one night in September. We were impressed from our arrival, friendly staff, Great room, huge bathroom, lovely comfy bed! Lots of little touches like a speaker for your phone, a little box of pens, scissors and useful things on the desk, as well as a printer to print off boarding passes in the lobby.... Great cocktails and a fab breakfast!
The location is excellent, and the main reason we chose this hotel. The rooms lacked ventilation, and were stuffy even in September. Steps in, and lots of different levels,so not suitable for anybody with walking difficulties. Several weird things about the rooms. No shelves or hooks, so nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. Only 2 drawers and a tiny single wardrobe in each room. The bedside tables are taken up with enormous bedside lamps screwed down, so little space to put anything. A very large kettle, which had to be used inside a drawer !, and 2 of the smallest cups we have ever seen in a hotel. The breakfasts were good, but some of the staff very casual, nobody seemed to be in charge. We particularly disliked the fact that the hotel front steps are the smoking area, and we constantly had to fight our way in and out through smokers, the hotel needs to provide an alternative area for them, maybe some of the other disused step areas. A pleasant hotel, but not a four star. The attached Coast restaurant was a major disappointment, and is reviewed separately.
This may be one of the best hotels in Douglas but it does have some challenges, some external, others of its own making. Being a hotel made up of a terrace of originally separate houses means landings are on various levels so rooms aren't necessarily on a floor with a lift. Our room was of a reasonable size, clean with a comfortable bed but the plumber who fitted the bathrooms out obviously had a job lot of taps left from his previous job fitting out the council's public lavatories. Who thought it a good idea to install push buttons taps where people will be shaving, washing faces and brushing teeth? The flow kept stopping before you could draw breath. There was nowhere in the bathroom to hang clothes or place toiletry bags. The bedside table had a light about the size of a football fixed in the middle of it which left little room at night for water, glasses, book, iPad etc. The staff were very pleasant but there didn't seem to be any structure to the way they were working so there was confusion and duplication around the dining tables. There was plenty of choice with the breakfast menu and all the dishes we tried over our stay were very good. Unfortunately the dinner was not such high quality but the hotel management did acknowledge and rectify that. Our room at the back of the building suffered from early morning (6.30am) rubbish collections and very noisy early shop deliveries which is not the fault of the hotel and we were informed that steps were being taken to try to reduce this nuisance. There is a large, comfortable lounge and the hotel is convenient for bus routes, railways, horse trams, shops and the sea terminal.
