The Claremont Hotel

We stayed for a long weekend here - five days. The hotel has a lovely location on the promenade looking out to sea, although, regrettably our room was in the centre of the hotel. The shops, including M&S are within a few minutes walk behind the hotel. I understand that the hotel is a conversion of three terraced properties, and work is still on-going, but is discreet and guests are not disturbed. One's first impression on entering the foyer is of a bright modern, cheery, small hotel. Bedroom We booked a twin and were given a double in a room you could not swing the proverbial cat in. However they willingly changed us to one which was more suitable, but it had no view which was disappointing, but not a big deal as we were out and about most of the time. Beds were very comfortable - both of us got a good nights sleep. Bathroom was a bit dated with shower over bath - not ideal for an elderly couple. Meals We were on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal. Breakfast is superb. Wonderful menu. Try the Manx Full Breakfast! Our Dinner menu deal was Table d'Hote, with a good selection. However, the quality of the cooking was nothing to write home about. I think they need to have a look at this aspect. The A La Carte menu looks very enticing, but rather expensive. Service I must make the point that our experience of the service is excellent. The staff are charming, willing to please, efficient and clearly are well-trained. Cleanliness No problems here. The Claremont is spotlessly clean. A shining example to others, quite literally. Reviews Elsewhere, The Claremont gets Four Star Reviews, and is even described as a "luxury hotel". I wouldn't go that far. I thought about giving it only three stars in view of the disappointing dinners, but then I thought that might be a bit niggardly. Because the staff impressed me so much I have given it Four Stars.

A well situated hotel with very friendly staff. Room was enormous with a huge modern en suite with lots of additional bits and bobs (Nespresso machine - yay), robes, slippers, Avida toiletries, free DVD loan and a sound system. Very comfortable stay. Breakfast service was slow - however food was freshly cooked to order, good and huge portions. A great stay thank you - oh and chocolates every night at turndown 😉

Great location for the sea view, shops, ferry terminal and horse trams. The food was so good we did not look anywhere else for our evening meals and had lunch upon checking out. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean. Perfect for our Easter break on the Isle of Man. We will go back.

We stayed as part of a short weekend on the island, the Claremont dud not let us down Very well appointed room, lots of space, great view of the bay, comfortable bed, high specification en suite. The only negative was the quality of the food in the restaurant, acceptable but not outstanding, else this review would have been five stars We would stay again, probably eat out one of the two nights to see what else the island had to offer in culinary fayre.

A very short stay, less than 15 hours.... comfortable, no frills. Only had breakfast, which was fine. A bit of a rabbit warren - quite challenging to find my room. Better to have a harbour view which I unfortunately didn't have.

I stayed for one night, the room was clean and pleasant. The towels were a bit grey and the decor is not amazing but great location for a quick nights stay. The food at the hotel restaurant wasn't great, I had a ham hock which was the saltiest thing I had ever tasted and the fish was very bland in the fish and chips. The breakfast was served to me at my table which I liked - good choice of breakfast available

I have visited The Claremont last weekend with the missus for Valentine's Day. I must say I was impressed from the begging g to the end of my stay. From the attentive and smiley staff. To the room and the views. The room itself was great, spacious, confortable and modern. It even had a little sitting area I front of the window. The breakfast was amazing, and the choice was huge, from a a complete Continental breakfast to a full English breakfast. Very happy customer and looking forward to visiting again. Well done Claremont.

This hotel looks to have had a serious amount of money spent on upgrading it and I have to say that our room facing the promenade was absolutely luxurious and contained absolutely every facility you could wish for. I would say it's the best we've had in many a year in this class of hotel. The only problem is we found it impossible to sleep (even using earplugs which I always use in hotels from prior experience) due to the constant traffic noise from outside and the sounds of revelry on the promenade. Maybe the upgrade funds didn't stretch to triple glazing which is probably what's needed. Our dining experience was also mixed - the food was lovely but the staff rushed us through a 6-course Gourmet Evening package in 1 hour 5 minutes!! Not exactly the relaxed, leisurely evening we anticipated, They were just TOO efficient - pretty much putting the plates for your next course in front of you as they cleared the prior course away. Breakfast the next day with different staff was excellent and more relaxed. If it's a quick bite you're after in the evening and you're not a light sleeper you'll probably be more impressed than we were. Probably more suited to business users than leisure trade.

I stayed here for a night on business. I think this hotel is probably the best option in Douglas. The hotel looked as if it was recently refurbished and it had a nice position on the promenade, close to the town centre. My room was spacious and faced the sea. However there were a few niggles during my stay which accounts for my low rating. Although we were in the middle of a February storm my bedroom was roasting. I turned the radiator off but that didn't seem to help so I had to leave the windows open all night; unfortunately that meant a lot of traffic noise from the busy road along the promenade. The curtain in my room was broken so I couldn't block out the street lighting. The staff must have known this because they draw the curtains as part of a turn down service. When I reported it upon checkout the receptionist didn't seem particular bothered or apologetic. Also the hotel's only lift was broken. As I said, this is probably the best option in town and next time I would give up the sea view and ask for a quieter room at the back of the hotel.

The Claremont is definitely trying hard to live up to its claimed 4 stars. It's good but it's not quite there yet. Room was nice enough but small and no view at all, which is surprising given its location. Shower cubicle is tiny and the bed was short to fit in the small room. And I'm not very tall! Dinner was nice. Good food but not amazing. Breakfast ok. Good selection. I'll definitely stay again. Maybe just my room was not so great so we'll see next time. I would still recommend it. Just don't think it's quite 4 stars compared to other 4 star hotels I've stayed in.
