Of course, all of France is historic to an American! But the Hotel L'Univers Tours had that Art Deco era feel that brought back a past era. The wall decor which included paintings of all the famous people who had resided at the hotel made you feel like you could step right back into that time. The modern pool was a delightful change in pace. And the gracious stairway that led to the upper floors made you feel like a grand entrance was required. Generous rooms, and a sweet visit to a gentler time.
We stopped at the Hotel L'Univers Tours as a stop over from the Dordogne en route to Cherbourg. What a great hotel! We are a family of 4, our children are 8 and 7 years old. We arrived slightly early before official check in time at 3pm, however this was not a problem and Laurent made this easy for us. We had a family room, wow, spacious, clean, modern new and quiet. The hotel facilities are great lovely pool, jacuzzi and Hammam steam room. Both us and the kids made full use of these great facilities. Laurent recommended dinner at Local French bistro, fantastic. Breakfast in the hotel was delicious and catered for all age ranges. The hotel also has a great bar 😀. Checkout was seamless. When we got back to the UK we realised that we had left our daughters pillow (comforter) in the hotel. I emailed the hotel and Laurent was on the phone within 12 hours, they had the pillow, hooray! Laurent has arranged this to be sent back to us. This is a fantastic hotel with amazing staff who really care about your stay and experience, highly recommended! Thank you
A huge lobby, with stars looking down from paintings that adorn the balcony makes way to clean floors and rooms which are in my opinion well beyond average in their decor and the amenities they provide. From the moment we turned up in our cars out front we were treated to great service, being told where the parking was. The same person who'd helped us with the cars then collected our bags and brought them to our rooms. Reception was a doddle in terms of check in. The bar was friendly and full of English speakers, and the drinks served were good - with a fair selection of beers, wines and spirits. Breakfast was good, though the person checking us through to it was a little frosty - but that wasn't a big deal - cos I'd had a great nights sleep, in a clean, well provisioned room, with near silent, fully working air-con. Would stay here again when coming back to Tours.
Perfect location for visiting the area by car. All of the places we wanted to see were a short drive away. Easy walking to restaurants, shopping, buses etc. Very clean, nicely decorated hotel with a very helpful and friendly staff.
This is a great little hotel in a perfect position, friendly staff and good facilities at a reasonable price. The family rooms are of a good size with pleasant shower facilities. Being in the centre of Tours you can easily make your way around this beautiful city.
From the moment we stepped into the reception area we were both impressed . Nicely styled and presented throughout and a comfortable spacious room . The hotel is in a great central position but was still quiet . Friendly helpful staff . We stayed for three nights and really couldn't fault it.
Stayed for one night in August. An easy 3 minute walk from the train station. Check-in was easy, with a minor hiccup of not being able to find my reservation right away. Room was a standard room with a double bed. Quite cramped, but typical of European hotel rooms. The exception was the bathroom...so spacious! Bed: Comfortable night sleep. As mentioned, it was cramped and there was little space around the bed to move. Enough room for one small suitcase. Anything more and it would be hard to move around. General room stuff: There is a small TV in the room with English language channels (BBC and an American movie channel). Wifi worked well enough to connect on Facetime, but connection wasn't strong. Air conditioning worked well. Bathroom: Separate toilet room. Shower room was spacious. Largest shower I've used in Europe (stand up shower only). Water was hot and good pressure. There was a rain shower head and then a standard handheld shower head. Amenities provided included shampoo and body lotion. Body wash located in the shower. Staff interactions were all good and checkout was a breeze. Hotel was about a 10 minute walk to the old town area. I would definitely stay again.
After navigating a somewhat confusing website ... I had my doubts about this hotel, but to my great surprise it was GREAT. We had a rental car since we were driving all over the Loire Valley so entrance to the parking is a bit confusing at first, otherwise it's easy. The location is very central .. we walked to the old town in 15 minutes since parking can be complicated and expensive. As you walk into the lobby it's classic old world and even the elevators are old world and very small. We had a junior suite since it was 3 adults ... and we were so surprised how modern and new the room was. OH and SPACIOUS (something that is a premium in Europe) The bathroom extremely spacious ... the bed were to die for and we even had a little balcony overlooking the main street, since Tours isn't a big city it was very quite at night .. we even slept with the window open a couple of the nights we were there. The hotel offers free wifi .. but its hit and miss ... but overall OK ... We got some great restaurant recommendations from the hotel concierge and everyone we encountered at the hotel was nice and very helpful .. and yes they speak flawless English (for those who worry about the language barrier). I couldn't ask for more and will stay here again when we visit Tours again ...
I have been in this hotel in 2000 for a congress, so I was surprised about the change in the hotel. It is wonderful modernized, the employees very attentive and helpful, they speak English, the breakfast buffet with a excellent selection. The rooms had a modern, stylish equipment. The hotel is centrally located close to the railway station of Tours and you can walk around easily in the old town of Tours. I was very happy with the hotel.
Lovely hotel right at the centre of Tours. The hotel is accessed from the side street and not through the busy brasserie on the main Place. This could be better advised. Parking available at The Place Leonardo Da Vinci, 100m from the hotel, €10 per day.
