Mercure Rennes Centre Gare4.0 out of 5.0

Mercure are a pretty reliable name for a business hotel. This is good - not exactly high-end luxury, but quite adequate for a night or a few on business. The rooms are clean, comfortable and equipped with the essentials. The breakfast is again fairly standard, but done reliably well. The location is great for the train station. It's about 450m away and quite an easy walk. From the hotel it's then an easy walk into the town centre for the restaurants etc. Would I stay here again - if visiting Rennes on business and coming by train - yes.
This Mercure is located within 10min walking distance from the railway station in Rennes next to shopping centre. It doesn't have a restaurant, only bar, but offers room service from the restaurant nearby with delivery to your room. Breakfast was standard but I missed here fruit salad.
The lobby of the hotel is renovated and beautiful and the staff is nice. But that's all. The location in not at the center. It's near the center and in Rennes this is important. The room is awful. Old furniture (really different from the pictures) small window and depressing decoration.
Excellent hotel in a central location. I was part of a group that recently spent a weekend in this lovely city. The hotel is modern and the rooms are good sized with decent bathrooms. A good buffet breakfast was provided. The bed and breakfast rate was reasonable for a city centre hotel.
A centrally placed hotel in Rennes we stayed in as a part of our Trafalgar tour, it was nice to just flop on the bed after a long hot day visiting Mont Saint-Michel. The room was a good size but one thing was immediately apparent, the air conditioning was not working, initially I thought due to fan being on low. Having upped the fan to high, and temperature to 5 degrees I hoped for that much desired relief from the day's heat, but it never came. Breakfast this morning was quite reasonable, though I just partook in the cereal and coffee. Generally a good stay, just unfortunate the cooling.
Just some older fixtures and not as many amenities. Needed some upkeep on bathroom. Breakfast nice. Elevators extremely small and unable to keep up with traffic. Had to pack super close and wait long periods and stairs we're not clearly marked
This place was booked for me so I didn't pay for it. Good things was the location, easy access to metro and train station. Shopping center and grocery store was near by. Sleep quality was pretty good, but the runs in the hallway are just old and tired. They only use plastic glasses in the rooms. Lobby is small and bar is almost non-existent. Better friendlier places to stay but I think they used this book about 20 of us for a conference.
Staff are nice. Room is big and clean. Breakfast is fabulous. Location is also very good. There is a commercial centre nearby. Restaurants and supermarket are just within a 3 minute walk. Certainly will come back if opportunities arise.
We stayed five nights in this hotel which we wanted to use as our 'base camp' for daily excursions to well-known places in the eastern portion of Brittany and parts of Normandy. The hotel turned out to be an ideal place to do this, as in our case we did most of our travel by train and the SNCF train station is three minutes from the hotel. The hotel is also good for exploring the trendy rue Vaisselot area of Rennes and further north the historic town centre, including the magnificent Parlement de Rennes. We had a twin bed double room with a very sizeable flat screen TV set and amenities that typically come with a Mercure hotel. We used the free coffee in the room every morning and the room service diligently replenished the supply of instant coffee. Even though the hotel has likely more than 100 rooms (it has six upper floors), we found it a very quiet place, and this also in spite of the proximity of a shopping centre with cinema. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel and will definitely consider returning there if we return to Brittany (which is also very likely - we had a whale of time exploring this part of France, together with neighbouring Normandy where we traced ancestry of family members who came to New France in 1671.
