We understood that the room would not be air conditioned, have no parking and no elevator. That is the compromise for a lower budget room. We did not expect the very strong bad odor or the extremely narrow staircase. We had to keep the patio doors open all night to reduce the odor.

We stayed in two apartments in La Maison de Nemours across the street from the main hotel. Primary beds were comfortable. One sofa bed was a day bed, and was perfect for my 9 year old niece. The other was a pull-out sofa bed that didn't feel very comfortable and went unused. The apartments were: * very well maintained. * up a steep staircase with poorly adjusted motion sensor lighting. * without air conditioning. A stand fan in each moved air well enough and provided white noise that puts me right to sleep. * without a sink near the toilet. Not a deal breaker. Just weird. * near U Express market to stock up the full kitchen (no microwave, though). * easy walking distance to the old city sights.
We had a 'cosy' room on the (Euro) 2nd floor the back of the hotel. It was small but well appointed and very quiet even with the windows open.
