Impressive and grand hotel in a stunning location, however for the standing and price of the rooms, disappointed to find two single beds pushed together and not a queen or king sized bed. This is off putting in such a prestigious brand. Superior rooms are very small and basic, with dated furnishings and decoration. Resembles more of a 3 or 4 star hotel than a Barriere. Had hoped for spa treatments to unwind and indulge however limited staff mean no availability at all for the time we are here. These are minor things in a less expensive hotel but in this one, they matter.
Yes this lovely, brilliantly managed, caring, helpful hotel will make a dent in your wallet. But if you want comfortable rooms with outstanding views over the bay, excellent service, fabulous food washed down by good wine choices, after champagne on your balcony, then go to this hotel for a night or two.
Looking for a short break in France, we decided to book at Le Grand Hotel in Dinard. We arrived late afternoon, and found the hotel to have a very good location overlooking the water. The staff were all very attentive as you would expect from a 5 star hotel, and we were made to feel welcome. Once checked in we were shown where breakfast was served and advised on the various facilities available. We were then shown to and around our room. Although we hadn't booked a sea view, you could just see the sea from our window. The room was comfortable, although surprisingly (and we did know this in advance) there was no air conditioning. Even leaving the windows open at night, the room still stayed fairly warm (for our taste) and could be a potential problem in higher temperatures. Breakfast was the usual options, cooked, cereals, fresh fruit etc. The pool was big enough for a reasonable swim, the gym small but enough equipment for a short workout, and the sauna very tidy. As well as being well located near the water, it was also a very short walk (5 minutes) into town. So far so good. However, the hotel did let themselves down on a couple of counts. Firstly the car park charge at €30 per 24 hours is pretty steep.Yes you have the confidence of secure off street parking, but feel this could be cheaper. More annoyingly, (and the reason I have only given 3 stars) is that on the way home, I realised I had left my iPod and headphones in the pocket of the bathrobe supplied. My wife emailed the hotel straight away (this was Friday 21st July) and heard nothing. I emailed on the Sunday morning via the hotels website - again nothing. I then left a comment on the hotels Facebook page, again -nothing. Now I understand it is my fault that I left them behind, but reporting it within an hour or so of leaving, and still having heard nothing (5 days later) is very poor. I have had at better dealings with less rated establishments. So learn from my mistakes. Double check everything before you leave, and don't expect a response if you realise afterwards.
I can't believe I've been coming here with my wife for 15 years and never got round to writing a review...apologies Hotel Barriere...so here goes. The hotel is ideally located for fantastic views across the Bay of St. Malo. You can toddle down to the vedettes slipway (4-5 min walk tops) and pick up the boat to St. Malo or you can walk into the town proper where there's loads of lovely shops and restaurants, Barriere also have a Casino round the corner where you can go and lose your shirt if you're so inclined, so there's lots to do...can't really guarantee the weather so it's useful having these options...the pool is great, there's a steam room and sauna...and a fairly basic gym. We didn't have dinner in the hotel this time round we have in the past...it's okay....and it's on the pricey side. Being brutal there are so many lovely restaurants in the vicinity it's better dining out (sorry chaps)....the room service meals are plenty good though. The rooms are lovely ....not ultra modern but entirely in keeping with the style of the hotel HUGE and unbelievably comfortable beds. Breakfast is okay.....buffet with some hot food options, can get a manic around 9.30 - 10 but that's fairly commonplace now I think...I tended to go with a coffee and a croissant, the pastries are really good there. The staff are lovely...Thierry the head concierge is a complete gent and has been there for ages...knows Dinard really well obviously and will sort anything out for you. Gaelle also is lovely.......The one sour note was a new lady who we'd not seen before on reception when we came back one night and requested additional tea bags as we'd run out. She said "well it's part of the welcome pack for guests we can't really provide any more" my wife pointed out....1. It's a five star hotel....2. we've been coming there for 15 years....3. if you're not providing tea bags why are you providing a kettle and 4. It's TEA BAGS not a bottle of Moet. Said lady on the receiving end of this sensibly retreated in to a back office never to be seen again and the wonderful evening staff brought us two tea pots with boiling water LOADs of tea bags and nougat....which they wouldn't have needed to do had she not been a jobsworth....any way..unpleasant episode skilfully defused (clearly not by her) and the rest of our stay was lovely...so thanks to all at Grand Barriere for looking after us and we look forward to seeing you again ...many thanks Nigel and Sandra Room 119 x
Well-placed hotel overlooking the waterfront. What really made this stay were the staff, who were first class from the moment we set foot on the property, welcoming, helpful and efficient throughout. Didn't want to leave!
Dinard is a very elegant and sophisticated place to visit and this Barriere Hotel caters for you well with all the staff very efficient and friendly. Being a repeat guest and a LHW member we were upgraded to a comfy sea view room which is always likely to help you put forward a good review but our car and luggage were dealt with swiftly in a manner so long forgotten but thankfully not here and likewise at reception....only a one night stay but left feeling refreshed and chilled. Will stay longer next time!
Clean rooms, comfortable mattress but for the price I would have expected the room to have an aircond. We could not sleep for the 2 nights we stayed there because of the heat, and despite the fact that the hotel is nice and clean, that is for me not acceptable for a hotel of that standard. I guess there are some better options in Dinard.
Just stayed 4 nights at this grand hotel. It is exactly what it states 'Grand'. Staff were so helpful and nothing was too much. You were made to feel welcome and special from the moment you pulled up to the front entrance, met and greeted in true 5 star style. The rooms were lovely and our balcony showed a stunning sea view. Each evening someone came in and turned your bed down for you and left a chocolate and water for the evening. There is a wonderful indoor swimming pool with a sauna and steam room. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the beach, restaurants, bars and beach. We will return.
As expected the hotel is very nice, beautiful old style building, well maintained ; very good indoor pool and spa, fitness etc. Hopefully we stayed in a not too warm period in May as there is no aircon. In total we appreciated our stay, but we found that , compared to a previous stay 2 years ago, the quality of the breakfast had diminished, now it is at the level of a good Ibis hotel (e.g. muesli, cornflakes, etc in Kellog boxes v/s previously homemade cereals ; cold scrambled eggs, sausages & fatty bacon in ordinary stainless square pans, industrial juices, etc), not worth the price.
Cannot recommend this enough! Everyone on the staff went out of their way for us from the moment we arrived! Gorgeous view overlooking the water from our balcony, many excellent suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants plus large breakfast buffet. And champagne and strawberries too! Staying here in Dinard was the perfect beginning to our trip to Brittany and Normandy. John and I thank everyone!
