Palladium Hotel Don Carlos - All Inclusive4.0 out of 5.0

This adults only hotel is extremely good from all points of view. All-inclusive gives you proprietary brands of gin etc and a very wide choice of tasty meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preferential rooms are excellent and well worth the extra cost - private sunbathing area with large jacuzzi. Pool and outside seating area for drinks and snacks is good. Very good nightly entertainment - tribute acts such as Aretha Franklin and the Jersey Boys (Frankie Vallie). Bar and dining staff very good. Room service good. Bar and downstairs indoor eating area need a bit of a facelift. Customer service and reception staff are excellent to a man. They all know their jobs, are professional and well trained. In our case, because of a tragedy to one of our party of six (nothing to do with the hotel) we felt the full support, compassion and kindness of every member of personnel, Frederika (customer service), Florin who became our translator, Jan, Mannu and many more, including Toni Rivera the director of the hotel who cut through all the red tape that comes with a death in a foreign country. They said they were only doing their jobs but they went far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect. Despite our sadness at he time four of us have already booked the same hotel for next year. In the following star ratings for some reason we are unable to click on any but in our opinion they all merit 5 star rating. Norman, Mal, Bob and Angie
Started not so good as we had paid extra for sea view but were offered a side sea view room overlooking the car park. We had thought we would have been given a room overlooking the pool and sea. They offered us further upgraded rooms at an additional cost but we declined and asked for a better sea view room which we were given, but still at the side of the hotel overlooking a residential area. However from then on everything improved and we really enjoyed the hotel. Staff were fantastic and it really felt that they wanted you to have a good time. Food was excellent and there was a wide choice of premium drinks in all inclusive. The animation team worked hard to keep everyone entertained and there was excellent evening entertainment most nights. Loved the jazz group who played some afternoons as well. Rooms were quite small with not much storage - pleased I brought a few coat hangers as not enough in the wardrobe. Kettle and tea/coffee provided. There was only 1 UK TV channel (Sky News). Pool was not heated, and very cold, but it is a seasonal hotel so probably not viable to heat. There is a nice jacuzzi area at one end of the pool. No buses from the hotel but a pleasant 20 minute walk to Santa Eulalia where you can get a bus or boat to Ibiza Town, also a bus to San Antonio. A real plus is that you can 'dine around' and have meals at other Palladium hotels on the island, but you need to book at reception. Would definitely return but probably hire a car next time to see more of the island.
Had the usual spiel about the 25 euros extra for a sea view. We did upgrade to this room as we didn't fancy looking over the car park. Having seen other reviews am wondering if we stayed in a different hotel! Lunchtime meals were better quality to evening ones. Entertainment was ok. Hold rate this place as 3* at best.
8 females between 30 and 50, long weekend break. Staff good, food great, hotel lovely. A bit of a trek to the town for nightlife but a short taxi ride. Not much of a beach- walk for 10 minutes and find a nicer one. Beds comfortable and clean. Only drawbacks: A Hoover at 7.15am each morning - woke us up every day. Maid hoovering the hallways. No where to go after entertainment finishing closing/ midnight to finish drinks. Got asked to go to the lobby but then told on a number of occasions to keep the noise down. Ended up going to bed as no where nearby to carry on. On the whole a great hotel would definitely go back for a short break.
Spent a week here for my birthday at the beginning of October. We booked a standard double which was fine. These rooms all come with large walk in showers,no baths. We were asked if we would like to upgrade to a sea view for an extra 25euro a night or a room with a Jacuzzi on the balcony for 50euro extra per night. The jacuzzi rooms are lovely and come with sunloungers, not very private as look out to the pool at just 1 level higher so everyone can see. These rooms are above the outdoor entertainment so bare in mind if you prefer a quiet room. Safe in rooms are free and also pool towels which can be changed daily with no charge. The hotel is spotless clean in all areas. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Pool area is lovely with lots of sunbeds on 2 levels.Other reviews have said the pool is freezing but i found it fine and so did others.People did reserve some but there were always plenty available ,was October though.Couldnt always get umbrellas but because they so big,you can end up shading your neighbors beds, very heavy bases so difficult to move around. The little beach is just down some steps at the side of hotel, its a bit rocky at waters edge but fine for a swim.Sunbeds available at a charge. The restaurant is big with a lovely outside area thats has beautiful seaviews.Plenty of choice at all meal times.Yes food can sometimes be luke warm but mostly hot.Was a little disappointed with cakes, they all tasted the same despite the different colours but this can be the case at Spanish hotels i find. Was nice to have fresh smoothies for breakfast.Drinks are served to you at Lunch and Dinner. Outside there is a small snack area where you can get a few cold snacks like croissants, cake & fruit, also slush drinks during the day. wi fi is free and excellent throughout the hotel. The walk into town was pleasant and took around 10 minutes where you find a much bigger sandy beach, the 1 in Santa Eulalia is non smoking! Plenty of restaurants and bars but only a few shops. The marina is small but lovely and has bars and restaurants around also, around a 25min walk. I have added some photos of hotel information if interested.
Just returned from our second visit to the Don Carlos. We love the hotel and Santa Eulalia. We were in a suite with a jacuzzi and sun beds on the first floor and it was ideal. Really lovely room with everything you need. It is getting towards the end of the season so I think things were running down but can't fault any of the staff who were all very kind and helpful. Pool was very cold - too cold for me so that was a bit of a shame but it is October so can't really expect anything else. Just a word to those people complaining of people smoking at the outside dining area. I'm a smoker but I never once smoked there and only ever saw one other person smoking and just remember we have to smoke outside!! Anyway rant over. This is a lovely hotel in a beautiful position and I can't complain about anything except maybe having to keep walking up and downstairs to get drinks when we were on our terrace- but that's just being lazy isn't it??
Lovely hotel in great location short walk from town centre. Rooms really good great walk in shower and kept spotlessly clean by maid. Good choice of food and great to get premium drinks. Even though AI it is still a nice gesture to get a bottle of cava delivered to room on birthday. The biggest asset of the hotel however is the quality of the staff they are all outstanding and cannot be faulted, it's hard to pick out individuals for special mention but Vanessa and Juan on the bar both looked after us so well. All in all another fab holiday with the Palladium group of hotels will definitely return soon.
We upgraded rooms to the one with the hot tub which was great, altho not very private! Hotel it's self is really modern and clean, staff super friendly and not pushy about joining in. Very relaxing atmosphere and food is incredible!!! Would recommend you get up and watch the sunrise on the beach as it's beautiful! The only small thing is the aircon in the rooms were a bit rubbish.
This was our third visit to the Don Carlos , this time for 2 weeks with friends who we have holidayed with before . Being a smaller , Adults Only hotel , the Don Carlos can be quite quiet during the day time. You are welcomed with a glass of cava then allocated your room after filling in the usual details and paying the Tourist Tax. The reception team ,especially Sylvia, always give you a warm welcome . ROOMS The rooms are of a reasonable size, modern in design and layout with all the mod cons you need. We had a sea view room this year which overlooked Santa Eulalia rather than the pool. The cleaners kept the room nice for us and replaced towels as and when required. FOOD As previously we felt the food was of good quality and varied from night to night. There is an outside area if you want to sit outside but you do occasionally get smokers there. My only criticism this year is that the food was sometimes not very hot , especially the chips ! In addition there were never any hot puddings which is a shame .There is also an a la carte which you can use once per week but it does get booked up early. The food in the a la carte this year wasn't very hot either and the dinner plates were cold so we didn't go back for a second visit. POOL /BAR We stayed in September /October so the pool was very cold though the weather was great . There is no need to get up early to save sun beds as there are plenty to go round . The bar is situated next to the pool so is used for both indoor and outdoor drinking . You have to go to the bar to get your drinks most of the time . The bar serves many branded drinks as part of the All Inclusive which is a bonus . We never had to wait long to get served and you can get drinks till 1am which is a bonus . Hugo, the pool man,is a star and looks after the towels and will move sun beds , umbrellas etc for you if required . ENTERTAINMENT/TRIPS The daytime activities include boules, darts, table tennis, pool and a quiz . As usual Silvia , who runs the activities , did a good job in getting people involved though she was feeling unwell for a few days during our stay . She is ably assisted by Leen , another friendly girl and neither of them are pushy but they always manage to get lots of guests involved . Quite often during the daytime various members of the Lucy & Phillips Band would do a music set outside . They also played a few times in the evenings and their tribute night to Tina Turner was fantastic, what a multi talented band they are ! The other evening entertainment wasn't quite as good as previous years and included Karaoke and a quiz night as well as a rock band and flamenco dancing . TRIPS We didn't do any Thomson trips which are far too expensive . Neither did we go to the welcome meeting which always go on far too long and are really only to sell their trips . Just for once it would be nice if they just handed you a leaflet when you arrived and asked that anyone wanting further details about what trips were on offer could speak to them about it later . Having been to Ibiza several times before we went on our own into the Old Town, Santa Eulalia etc. GENERAL The staff at this hotel are great and go out of their way to look after you. We cannot fault the general appearance and cleanliness here . From the cleaners , receptionists, waiters, waitresses, bar staff through to Animation they are all friendly and approachable . Unfortunatly the same cannot be said of Thomsons these days who seem to be cutting down on their ' customer care ' every time we go away . There is never anyone on the coaches now to your hotels so it is left to the drivers to work out who is going where . Unfortunatly they don't always speak good English which sometimes makes communication difficult . Now on our last 2 holidays there were no reps to meet the coaches at the airport either on our return so it is left to the passengers to find the check in desks ,etc . We had a wonderful holiday and would definatly return though probably not next year , which is a shame , as the price has gone up considerably .
On arrival we were given a glass of cold orange. Fast check in our bags were taken to the room by Jose who was great. We had to change rooms because they had given us a double instead of two singles. No problem in changing rooms. The room we were given overlooked an old car park but it was so quiet we weren't bothered. The room was lovely, plenty space and good wardrobe and drawer space. Shower was great very powerful and loads of hot water. rooms were spotless as was the rest of the hotel. Lovely dining room with outside area. Food first week was great not so good second week but we could always find something to our liking. Views from outside area were lovely. Beautiful red moon a couple of nights. Staff were fabulous especially Sylvia, too many to mention. All great. The parts away from the pool with the bali beds were wonderful. Plenty sun loungers to be had.The bar had branded drinks at no extra cost and the staff were first class. They were so friendly especially Vanessa (ketchup) and Elisa. Their English was so good. We had a fun time with them. The A La Carte was wonderful, we only used it once and were sorry we hadn't booked again. I read it wasn't very good. I think they must have been in wrong restuarant. Food was excellent. Animation team Sylvia and Leen were priceless. Sylvia sang one night and wow, she was fantastic. She was dressed from the 40s and carried it of brilliantly. Leen what can I say, she is naturally funny and bubbly. They remember everyone's name. We had a great time with them. I loved both of them and told them if the were not there next year I won't come back. Hope the same staff are there. They are an asset to the hotel. Walked into Santa Eulalia a couple of times, lovely little place, lovely walk.I hope we can return next year. Weather during the day was hot but cooled down quite a bit at night, needed a jacket.
