Upon entering the hotel, the staff was responsive and nice, but the smell was pretty bad. Room within first appearance seemed ok, but with a different (bad) smell. With a closer look, this hotel needs much in terms of cleanliness and maintenence. Rust on bathtub, stains (I hope) on comforter, ironing board, etc. Sheets smelled like urine. I was only staying here very briefly, just to get a couple hours sleep, but would not stay here again. I suggest the Hampton inn, right behind. See photos.
We stayed at the Travel Inn in Athens on 4/30/19. We were a little leery due to the mixed reviews on this site. The room was very pleasant looking with a few minor cosmetics (the grab bar in bathroom broken and ceiling above entry door peeling). The room was very clean, breakfast was minimal but hot. The room was clean and front desk staff very friendly. My only complaint and to me this is a big one is that the motel does not keep track of who is still in their rooms, the maids think it is totally acceptable to just walk in without a courtesy know to see if the room is still occupied. This happened not once but twice. Check out time is 11:00 am as we usually get in late after 9:00 we stay until pretty close to then as I am a student and I need the wifi to complete my online course work. I would recommend this place but make sure you have your deadbolt on if you are staying later into the morning.
Great experience for such a reasonable priced motel!..Completely remodeled and even had a regular apt. Size refrigerator with a real full size freezer. Large tv, all newly painted and new furniture and bedding ! Extremely clean including very clean windows! Right by a Cracker Barrel you can walk to. Nice breakfast with waffle maker, toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and sausage, cereal, bagels, blueberry muffins, pre packaged pastries, donut holes and coffee, milk and juice.
Check-in was very expedient. My room was recently remodeled. Had a new large flatscreen television and new floors . Easy access and had no issues. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. I would definitely stay again.
We were returning from Gulf Shores and rain storms started so we cut the drive short and most hotels were already booked solid. It seems as if the Travel Inn Motel is trying to remodel but the craftsmanship of the work is substandard in areas. Sheets were clean, tub was very dirty (we would not shower there see picture of the dirt ring by drain there was another around the tub!), toilet was clean. There was a frig/microwave which we didn’t need for a quick overnight but it was convenient to keep drinks cold. There were some holes in the wall, lots of caulk, where work was done not properly. Floors were new and clean. Some of the “popcorn” ceiling was coming down in areas. There was no bad odor in our room as some reviewers stated. Lights were fluorescent. Table and two chairs in roomThere was free continental breakfast which we didn’t try. We would keep driving vs stay again. It’s not a Marriott be prepared.
Looked to be a recent remodeled room. I thought they done a great job on the decor. Full size fridge was a plus!! Great for more than a one night's stay. Nice staff and I certainly would recommend this hotel. Will stay here again for sure.
I called after checking online for a vacancy where it showed there were rooms available. At first there was now answer after letting it ring until I got their voice mail. The second attempt a woman answered. I asked if I could reserve a room and the lady said there were no rooms available. I asked if she was sure because it looked like they had rooms online. She raised her voice on the other end of the line and said "I TOLD YOU NO ROOMS!" and hung up on me. Wow. After this I started to read the reviews this place has recieved and am not surprised at all after reading how they treat some of their paying customers. Dont do it!
We stay here on our way to Florida a few times a year and we are never disappointed. Great beds, clean rooms. Breakfast has something for everyone. Older, but comfortable . Best Value and pet friendly for your furbaby. .
We stayed here while moving to Athens. The inn is nice, with a larger than average room. We would definitely stay here again. It is near several restaurants so plenty choices of where to eat. The one drawback is it is a little difficult to find. Even though we stayed here 4 nights we drove past the turn off twice. But once I got the hang of the little sign it was great.
Stopped here late on a Saturday night. Check in took a little long, but accommodations were excellent. Easily accessible to interstate with gas stations and fast food easily available. Room was solid. Clean and updated. Plenty of hot water.
